- The hottest hatch ever conceived by #Toyota is finally here. The 2023 #ToyotaGRCorolla is the first-ever in-house developed high-performance car built of #GazooRacing and this #GRCorolla has enthusiasts salivating over its high-strung 1.6L turbo 3-cylinder engine. Along with the first-ever #RallyCar style AWD system developed in-house in over 20 years, this #Corolla is unlike any other #ToyotaCorolla before it.

Happy Monday guys! The hottest hatch on sale today may very well be this new GR Corolla! Toyota also just recently announced that this Circuit Edition trim will live on in 2024 and the company also plans to increase production in order to meet demand. They didn’t say how many units they plan this build, but it is still good news for those of you wanting to get your hands on this very spicy hot hatch!
hmmm soo you have to push the car past its limit to get under 5 seconds lol... they should have had a n auto option indeed
Sir, I have to credit you for calling out the one major failing of this car - the cramped interior. I see so many reviewers, who claim to be 6 feet or taller, make excuses for these undersized TNGA interiors and it is refreshing to hear someone accurately emphasize this galling design failure. When a Corolla has less space inside than the Yaris used to have, consumers have a major problem.
My car topped out @ 140MHP. You need Nos. Who give a sht buy a Corvette if you want to Break the 😅Speed Limits.😂❤
@@cebtropico Speed limit is 60-65 mph. Maybe they want to break the sound barrier. 🥳
It might be the “hottest” hatch on sale right now, but it’s also the WORST hatch on sale right now, in terms of performance. It’s the slowest AWD hatch, the most unpractical hatch, and the most expensive too. It’s also showing that it’s not as great of a “reliable” car when put on track, which is what it is marketed as, so it’s fair that this is said.
Sorry, I had to say it. Not sorry though…
I just went from a 200,000mi rust bucket 01 Chevy Tahoe that was literally falling apart, to a gr Corolla circuit on Monday!
Yeah, it was worth the wait.
Toyota now offers GR Corolla/Yaris, GR86, GR Supra, IS500/350, RCF/350. The closest thing to 90s Toyota lineup
The IS350 and is500 are complete garbage though crappy interior very slow for the power and poor handling, the Supra is phenomenal because BMW made it, the GR86 is good because of Subaru that just leaves the GR Corolla that Toyota actually built thats good and marked up lol....
@@ftr911drvr poor handling? slow? haha you don't anything about cars, and Im sure you can't afford it neither
@@cloudypac lol I was going to say the same thing
@@ftr911drvr weird. I'm getting my gr corolla for msrp. I've seen 3 different ones at dealers for msrp. You just need to look around more. They aren't hard to find
@ftr911drvr can pick up gr corolla at $2k over msrp. Almost picked 1 up Saturday. Except it was red. And only a base model. I want white, circuit edition.
I have a Core GR, I absolutely love it. Just got through break-in mileage. This car is a ripper!!
To say the least. It’s got me looking for crests trying to catch some air.
How are the gear shifts can u shift quickly through the gears like a type r. Strangely I bought a 2007 accord euro r recently. 8400rpm. I'm so curious about the gr.
@@misterpacha1 redline is at 7k, shifts are really nice and crisp. Im gonna get the weighted shifter knob for even better feel.
Can you donate it to me?? :)
@@DanCMadsen oh sweet. I donno man I'm in Asia. I might just get the yaris gr. Since I have a few similar sized cars
Thank you Toyota for building the GR Corolla.
That was the best first launch I’ve ever seen you do nice
This car looks better to me every time I see a new video on it. Can’t wait to see one in person!
That first launch is possibly the best launch I've seen anyone do with the GR Corolla!
I bought my first Corolla (used) (1973) in 1977 when I was in high school. I've always liked the Corolla line of cars. Affordable and dependable 🚗
The regular Corolla fine, but this thing is claustrophobic. I felt camped from the rear seat just watching it on video. Then again, I am 6'4.
My first new car was a 1973 Corolla SR5 (orange) 5-speed. Bought new in Los Angeles for $3,000. Sold out 7 years ago after all these years. I'm 72 now. Drove all over California in this days. Very reliable and nice looking. Good memories.
@@patriciaperreira1095 $3000 was a lot of money back then, but well worth the price. Toyota 's quality control during manufacturing and assembly at that time was unbeatable. Your SR5 was a good investment! California is an awesome state to explore.
"Affordable" = @55 k .... Suuuuuuuurrrrrreeeeeeee
@@krane15 It is a small car, it's a two seater for somebody that's 6'4". About the same size as my '05 WRX hatch. The visibility isn't that good (WRX was much better IMO).
Damn, that exhaust sounds awesome. I appreciate the muted nature, don’t need to be annoying everyone I drive past, but it sounds mean.
😈 Disturb the peace Vincent.
That looks INCREDIBLE in Circuit edition trim.
I could look at it all day. Can’t wait to see one lowered with the boost turned up. So much history behind that GR-Four name built on from the 90’s to be shocked that this is a Toyota shows you still don’t know about Toyota. Toyota has made everything
The wing makes the Corolla look so much fking better....it looks so weird on the models without one.
Great review as usual Sofyan. Thank you very much!
Great review!
I love this car and it’s perfect for my Colorado weather! I just wish it was easier to get and didn’t have markup.
Get the Core, mark up is only $4-8k
@@liudxdx how can you find one?
@@liudxdx How much do you have to pay for these in the US ?
Wait 2 years and get one coming off a single owner lease with low mileage and no accident record.
@@namn59 I know most of them charge over 10k. I called over 20 plus dealers and found one that add $6k and another one add $8k. If you have patient you can find one that add around $5k
Thank you Akio Toyoda for making this happen.
Great video and that’s a nice ride…
This is perfect for cold winter states.
Finally! An awd corolla. Thing is sick af.
The Matrix was an AWD Corolla
I was on a waiting list for a Core edition, got a call today to tell me that it was in. Picking it up in 2 days, im pumped as hell!!!!
So… how is it?
@@MarshallFoss1 Absolutely amazing! The power is nuts and the confidence from the AWD is great. I'm coming from a 2017 civic hatch sport touring 6MT, and there's definitely some downgrades in term of comfort and technology (the sound system is very basic, there's no center arm rest and the ride is very stiff). But the overall driving experience is awe inspiring. I haven't been this exited to drive my car in a long time.
It also sounds awesome, that little 3cylinder is an absolute hoot!
I have my 2022 Veloster N is a very nice car too
@@ArmyOfArmagedon One angry 3 cylinder
You had me at rev matching! Wish the gr86 Would also have it
I'm sold on this! Now lets see how I can get my hands on one without breaking the bank. Good news is that Toyota has confirmed the Circuit trim will be available in 2024 as well so that give me a better change at getting one. keeping my fingers cross. :)
25:00 That's so on point. I have both the FK8 and the GRC, and the clutch and gear just feel a little bit better on the type R. nevertheless both drive like a dream
Which one do you recommend me cuz I’m rlly interested in the Awd system
@@joelselvin2825 do you need AWD for snow? if not I would go with the type r. The type r handles better, it has adaptive suspension, more space, seats are more comfortable, interior feels more superior. If I had to pick one I would go with the type r. Under normal driving conditions you wouldn’t even feel the difference between FWD and AWD, I’ve done track day on both cars I couldn’t even feel the difference between FWD and AWD even on the track, but I am also a newbie lol. And I drove FWD cars in the snow in the past 10 years in NYC, I didn’t have any issues. However I can’t wait to drive the GR in the snow I haven’t driven any AWD in the snow yet.
Great review love this car the hype was worth it !
I was afraid that the GR Yaris is so good that the GR Corolla will be a slight let down but wow! The Japanese company has gone back to the days of Toyota Conquest RSI, Corolla Twincam GLI, Supra 2JZ, COROLLA RSI & RXI, now we are all excited again! Wow wow wow!
You did some nice get shifts.
Looks like an evolved scion xd TRD edition, I owned one back in the day when I was in college and loved it.
As a Corolla e210 driver, I honestly can’t wait to trade it up and really have fun with that gear stick plus the awd lsd perks.
Best GR Corolla review I've seen yet! Keep up the good work
I would loved to see a GR Corolla compare with a Lancer Evolution X, in terms of handlings around corners.
What better dude they don't even make that garbage model anymore lol 😂
NICE SO BUTIFULL REVIEW
🤩🤩🤩
The car is much louder and rougher growl in person also lovin the stock enkie rims
Been looking at one for a bit. Hoping I can snap one in a couple month maybe even the core if im not able to snag a curcuit edition.
I would like to know about the ramp-under clearance to that front spoiler. I would hate to be scraping that too often. And when is the 8 speed torque converter automatic due? Not that I need it but for others who drive it
I love this idea of the new design 😍 👏
Praying i can get one. Awesome content. I will say ive been hearing that the engine is built to take a beating but i guess its driver opinion.
A Civic Type R & Corolla GR track comparison? These 2 are craving it, 4000 rpm is the sweet spot. Homeboy kept messing up launching too low.
What a beast!
Looks good 👍
1M subs soon! 😁🎉
it’s funny you mention mazdaspeed 3’s considering the rear end is very reminiscent of it ahah
This is beautiful! Can you imagine a GR Camry 👀😅🔥
Just a few corrections, you can get well over 300 miles per tank if you're not flooring it all the time. The tank is 13 gallons.
Please stop being shocked this is a Toyota. This is the same company that the made the LFA V10, Supra MK4, celica GT4, Toyota chaser, MR2 turbo and 50 other cars. Let’s wake up already.
Toyota go vrooom 🏎️🐌💨
Eh Nissan, Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Mazda has more Racing pedigree and experience than Toyota 😂 wake me up when Toyota wins a Formula 1 world Championship
@@f181234 actually no. Toyota has more racing history and pedigree then Mazda Honda and Nissan. Honda does even compete in most of the category that Toyota does number one. Mazda ? Mazda is a one trick pony literally only makes one or two cars that even remotely matter and their all discounted. Take away the rx-7 and Miata and the brand doesn’t even matter. Nissan is close but Toyota still outshines Nissan. Toyota is top dog in the Japanese word when you look at everything.
@@Toyota4Life actually, Honda does have more racing history and pedigree than Toyota does.
Honda has entered the world of racing in 1959 where as Toyota entered in 1970.
Honda has been part of 18 different racing series where as Toyota has been part of 10 racing series throughout its history.
Honda has been in F1 racing since since 1964 and Toyota entered in 2002.
Honda has been participating in various Touring series longer and more consistently than Toyota has.
Let’s also not forget that Toyota when on a 2 decade long hiatus with producing consumer sports-oriented vehicles while VW and Honda continued to produce things like the GTI/R and Civic Si.
And for full transparency, this is coming from a VW fanboy. Never owned either Honda or Toyota in my life.
And…you can’t be surprised for people being shock that Toyota made a fun little car because they haven’t done so for a while. The cars you mentioned (with the exception of the LFA) we’re all 90s legendary cars. And the 90s was really when Toyota shined (when it comes to sport-oriented cars).
I ❤this Car it’s a beast 💪🏻
Got my gr corolla fully loaded last week
Toyota hit the mark with this one. Sounds better than the typeR.
This is such a interesting car to me
I'd love Toyota cars!! I might buy it Sofyan.
What's crazy is the 0-60 time on these are pretty misleading since when pegging it you're forced to shift from 2nd to 3rd at about 56mph. If that shift wasn't necessary and this thing revved out past 60 in 2nd, the 0-60 would actually be around 4.5 seconds, which is insane.
My local dealer said there is a wait list for the GR and that they only get a couple a year and they both sold already. They said it could be a couple years
I see a winner 🏆
This is hottest hatch! Besides Honda TYPE-R. GR Corolla is amazing!!
i'm looking at this as my next car. love my 22 camaro but its not the best car as a daily driver, unless you have a second car (no visibility is a huge thing too). was thinking about switching over to this bad boy to get the quality and reliability of toyota but still have some zip to it when my lease is up.
Excellent review. Thank you. I was the allocation list for a GR Corolla ans GR Supra Manual at my local dealership. I was beat out for the GR Corolla, but I just signed for the first manual Supra to be delivered in Oregon and should see it mid march. A few questions about the review. What is the timing device that you use and what is your height? I’m 5’6”, so I assume I’m shorter, but just curious when you reference the head room.
The Supra was the the far better pick
I think that he is 5' 7"
Congrats on your allocation for the GR Supra MT! We had a lot of fun with that car as well when we had it for a week. We use the RaceBox to time our 0-60 mph runs and our host is 5’7” so you guys are pretty close in height.
@@johnshukeireh5804just get both 😁
@@dannyd7714 I just turned 50, just had a double bypass and two rebuilt heart valves, and just donated the business that I started in my 20's to a non-profit. I am in full mid-life crisis mode... and am still on the list for the next GR Corolla. My favorite dealer calls everyone on the list when the car is allocated and whoever walks through the door first wins. Once I have my Supra, I will have better odds of getting there first. When I got the call for the GR Corolla I drove my Corolla Hybrid... 😇🤣
it looks SO good even just stock. on par with a GT3 in how much itd move my head
Toyota actually making functional vents compared to other cars

Need to compare this vs the Elantra N
Nice Car Fun Car
US: 39,000 (around), Puerto Rico: the base model 56,000-59,000.
I just need that engine in my GR86.
The test day was slower due to altitude.. I would like to see a 0-60 done with 60/40 as the front wheels may slip a tiny bit to reduce bogging down
Am always with my type R
Can't wait for mine to arrive. Have a deposit down since April last year. Can't wait for it to join my Supra.
Launching this car frequently means clutch & flywheel replacement every year or so (3000-4000 dollars out of pocket) because in AWD cars all that power hits the clutch, not the tires.
I love manuals. But imagine getting this with a PDK styled Dual clutch quick shifting transmission. We also want a GR Camry. At least 350 to 400 hp AWD.
Cool! What's your height for reference? Thanks!
How does the ride quality compare to the Veloster N or Golf R?
You said it was quite firm, would that be a deal-breaker for you?
I recently sold my Veloster n to make room for a either a gr Corolla or Golf R manual.
The Veloster n was about as firm a suspension as I would like.
The Golf R will probably have a more comfortable ride. It has adjustable suspension.
Drove a Kona N and it was the stiffest suspension of anything I've ever driven. Don't know the mode it was in, likely N. The GR is pretty firm. Haven't driven a Veloster N but I would be surprised if it wasn't stiffer than a CRC. If you looking for a smoother ride go Golf R. Find a GR owner and ask for a ride. I had a guy follow me home and we went for a short ride. He drove on the way back
Nevermimd! I posted mid video. As I resumed the video you answered my question. GR Corolla for you mainly due to weather conditions where you live.
5:51 who else got a GRC, I have mine for over a month and I still think this vent is non functional lol there is no holes or opening.
0 to 60 w/o dumping the clutch would be mid 5s most likely.
My guy grinding the shit out of that third gear on the second pull 😭 18:06
He can’t drive a single car well
It's not the best gearbox for shifting fast.

I would actually get one Maybe in a couple years😂, But I'd actually get one I'll try to avoid these dealer markups but yeah it's on my wish list
The spare tire is a dealer accessorie
This might be a great alternative to the Honda Civic Type-R since the Type-R prices have skyrocketed over the last 5 years. In fact, the used Type-Rs are going for more than the MSRP for the vehicle was when it was brand new.
What’s the difference? GR Corolla is going for more than MSRP too. Also, the Type R is more practical. There’s room for rear passengers and bigger trunk capacity.
@@Bubbles23XI
But not for $75k

@@sneakerjoe23 I think we should all keep debating
For being a 3-cylinder, it's definitely got the growl of a typical 6-cylinder. I think Toyota hit this one out of the park. Thank God a manual is the only transmission offered. I can't fathom a CVT on a car of this caliber. Although Toyota does build some of the best CVT's in the industry.
Imagine if they give the Camry the GR treatment.
That 2.5 liter 4 cylinder deserves this.

Would love to see this verse mid 90s BMW m3
As cool as this thing is the Circuit edition is on par in price with a Golf R/Audi S3, and while I'm sure this has more feedback and engagement than the Audi, the Golf R has a good manual and a fast DSG, which combine with their torque splitter and greater refinement and reliable tuning, which makes it a tough sell compared to the Golf.
Can anyone tell me where I can order that rear spoiler? We don't get it in Australia.
Toyota, at least here in the US
People won't drive around in 3rd gear. They won't dump the cluth at 4 grand. No car will last like that. We don't drive like that. It is a passenger vehicle. 22yr olds can't afford it. We will take care of it. We know the cost.
If they make an automatic, I'd get one and put on a pedal commander.
The older I get, I'm 43 I don't like standards in traffic. Been driving standards since I was 16. My 4runner now I love it. Don't miss a standard at all.
I personally think standards sell a lot at younger people. The older you get, you just want something simple.
I also think the rear view mirror should be camera. Why do we still need to see the backseat of the car?
Infotainment should also be into dash . I understand it up high for safety but, it's also in the way.
toyota is the number 1 car maker in the world

This thing will be bonkers with tune
Catless downpipe & a tune would b set
Keep in mind with any extra power the more power the rear clutch pack will have to deal with in both power transfer and the heat generated by the permanently slipping clutches.
Awesome car but they can keep it if dealers are asking $10k+ over sticker.
It's necessary, a 4-cylinder version for this car. It would be perfect.
