The Oliver Khan moment I will never forget is when they defeated Valencia the second time on the UCL, and before celebrating he consoled another great goalkeeper: El Dragon Cañizares. He was intense but very humane too.

The moment I’ll remember is the end of the third-place game in the 2006 World Cup, when he walked off the field arm-in-arm with Figo
Canizares had lost his mother too, for that gesture Kahn won the fair play award
He was the Greatest Goalkeeper on the line. He already intimidated the other team just standing on the field....and the Bayern München defenders knew that Kahn was behind them...giving the players extra confidence.
He was the very best....until the decent of Manuel Neuer.
In my opinion the greatest goalkeeper of y lifetime...since 1981.
for those who don't know, in a game where Bayern needed a late goal, Kahn went in the opponents box and punched a ball into the net of the opponent with both hands once. He was that crazy, but he was the TITAN and will forever be remembered.
And in the interview after the match
he said (jokingly of course):"What are
You talking about? The goalkeeper is
allowed to use his hands in the box"🤣
He is not wrong, who said goalkeeper can only use hands in his box, not in the other box too
I watched that game live when I was a kid and I was like “He did it with such control and confidence so it must be legal”

1:11 This is such a great save, headers or shots from such a short distance are almost impossible to get for a goalie but he did it. He also was a beast when coming out of the goal to confront a player running alone towards him. You just knew he wouldn't back off so it was you or him. Commanded great respect that way. And the defense knowing they had him back there when they made a mistake is also not to underestimate.
He played with rage and this made him over the top. Difficult to find this commitment in any player nowaday

He was a nightmare for his own team defenders.The way he used to scream and yell at his teammate making them nervous instead of giving them confidence and assurance .That explain Most high-profile occasions in his career resulted in him ending up on the losing side.

Kahn wouldn’t scream at his team randomly. Kahn was a born leader and his goalkeeping and leadership made his team overarchive.
He was just unlucky to be the only world class german player with ballack in a time where Germany and Bayern where weak(2002-2007).
Germany had back then no talent.
And bayern was back then financially weak compared to other top teams and many legends retired or got old (matthäus, effenberg, elber, scholl).
So there was no german talenr to replace those players and also there was no money to buy them.
While real was regularly spending 60-120 a year million for players, bayern could only afford 20-25 million as they where paying for a new stadium for the 2006 world cup.

Used to root for Real Madrid when I was a kid and whenever they were to play against Bayern I just knew that it would be extremely difficult to score goals.

I'm a Juventus fan but I've never seen another goalkeeper better than Kahn in the season 2000/01. He deserved the Balon d'or but unfortunately Germany lost against England 5-1 and he didn't win

Quest'impressione può essere data sia dal fatto che nel 2001 avevo 12 anni e anche che quel Bayern aveva nel complesso giocatori meno forti della Juve 2002/03, più facile emergere se giochi con Linke, Jeremies, Sahlamizic e Janker piuttosto che con Thuram, Davids, Camoranesi e Trezeguet

I've seen most of his saves when I've watched his games live on TV many years ago... his and Schmeichel and Buffon saves so I can first-hand compare these 3 legends to today's goalies and I can genuinely say that - in my opinion - only Neuer and De Gea can match Kahn's reflexes and positioning, with both De Gea and Neuer having the possibility to surpass Kahn in worth. The problem with the 2 goalies, though, is that they're not being each season in top 2-3 clubs in the competitions that matter (domestic leagues, but more importantly the UCL) for these 2 goalkeepers to really have opportunities to shine. Ok, Neuer's position is pretty solid both for Bayern and the national team, but De Gea, unfortunately for him, doesn't have a good enough team to take them to the final 4 in the UCL each season so that he can gain enough recognition to surpass Kahn.

With all respect to Kahn, I think, Neuer definitely surpassed him (he showed insane consistency for majority of this decade). He is as good as Kahn at incredible saves that require great reflexes, and great shot-stopper, great on the line, but also he is more proactive goalkeeper that redefined goalkeeping role in modern game. Buffon or Cassilias are not even close to Neuer. Neuer is on his way to become one of the greatest goalkeepers in history of the game, that's for sure. He is already the best goalkeeper of this decade.
@@blazeoriginal4625 I don't know how accurate these stats are, but there have been some pretty good goalkeepers through the history (buffon, kahn, dasaev, neuer, de gea, casillas, schmeichel, zoff, taffarel, van der sar, zubizareta, and many more that I can't remember right now). I don't think we can call any of these legends "the best" when the others have been great, too. We would simply do them a disservice if we did that :)
@@robertwill23 I do agree that neuer is better than kahn, but I don't necessarily agree that he's better than buffon and casillas. I have had the fortune to witness all these keepers at their best 20-30 years ago when they have been young and at the peak of their career and I can vouch for their quality. If I were to make a top 3 goalkeepers with these 3 legends I would put Buffon, Casillas and Neuer (in this order) in a top 3 best reflexes, and I would put Neuer, Casillas, Buffon (in this order) in top 3 consistency. Neuer is indeed the most consistent of these 3 goalies, but believe me that Buffon has had much better reflexes in his youth (in late 90s and early 2000s). I'm not gonna look up any videos to prove my point but you should do it yourself if you're that curious. A young Buffon is responsible for many denied 100% goals, that Neuer has not accomplished as often... Also, I think that Neuer is one of the best goalies of the 2010-2020 decade, just not the best. De Gea (and more recently Alison) can easily surpass him. Just give them time and games :)

De Gea was nobody when Neuer was defining this decade, he redefined goalkeeping in modern game. Now we have Alison, Yann Sommer and other proactive goalies. Neuer became that catalyst in early 2010s. I remember how everyone was amused and shocked how Neuer played that famous Algeria game at WC 2014. But he was doing it already at Schalke in 2010. Buffon may be best in late 90s and early to mid 2000s so as Casillas was good in late 2000s but since then he declined. I think Neuer's reflexes as good as Buffon's. And still in all stats Neuer beats those two great goalies. In consistency he beats them confidently. And now he has his form back after post-injury 2 year setback.
Often overlooking of Neuer's achievements comes down to anti-Bayern and anti-BL bias. English-speaking media rules the narrative in modern football and if Neuer would have been playing for big EPL club, that media wouldn't shut up about him.
If we look at this past decade - only Neuer stands big. Alison and De Gea have to prove themselves more in early part of the next decade. Neuer already did his bit. Of course, at the moment, in these past 2 seasons Neuer isn't the best, but still somewhere in top 5.

Kahn is a strong goalie, I love that a true goalkeeper is strong and very controlled aggressive when he comes out of goal.
My dad always said you put face in front of the ball and the attacker his foot. So if you out go hard for the ball. And everything that does not go out of the way, go threw it.
Gk safety first be strong and be 'aggressive at time' but always on the ball not the player.
Going aggressive on players just means you nuts
