Howard Hewett was the lead vocalist on this song. His biggest solo singles were Show Me and I'm For Real both reached #2 on the R&B charts. Shalamar was on the SOLAR label which was massive in the early 80's.

I saw these guys recently on their celebration tour, with the two original guys, and they had everyone dancing. This is a good one to dance to, although I think 'Night to remember' and 'There it is' are the best ones. 4 for this one-Colin Ward

Shalamar was interesting because Hewitt as crazy as it sounds now was not considered as the original male lead(Gerald Brown. However when he did come he brought that powerful midwestern gospel trained voice that the group needed. Interestingly I thought the best dance they ever did was on this album, which was “Right In The Socket” which Jody lead and really showed her vocal ability. Great group🎼

My favorite song from Shalamar is "For The Lover In You", which is their most popular ballad. Although this is my favorite dance song. Give that a listen.

That boom sound was the very first synthesizer drum and was found on many disco/pop hits in the late 70's. I'm a drummer and bought one too back in the day paying $350 for it and it only made 3 sounds! 😆
This was my favorite Shalamar song alongside " For the lover in you" which they redid in the 90s with Babyface and LL Cool J. Shalamar was great but Jody Watley was better solo in my opinion, when " Looking for a new love " came out, it was 🔥 and Jody's career took off!

My favorites by Shalamar are Make That Move & A Night To Remember! This one is ok, boogie meter 3! Jodi Watley had a successful solo career after this group, but I like the material from the group Shalamar itself better! The guy who's singing is Hewitt, but I can't think of his 1st name! The other guy, I totally forgot his entire name!
I heard that Jodi and that unknown member of the group were discovered on Soul Train, but who knows! See you next time!
jeffrey daniels the tall guy taught micheal jackson the famous moonwalk and i believe he brought the pop lock dance to the masses still dancing to this day a great dancer !

Howard Hewitt, Jody Whatley, and Jeffrey Daniels are Shalimar. Howard is on lead vocals and they numerous hits with this line up until Jody and Howard had a falling out and she left the group. Howard is the second lead vocalist for the group. Jody was a Soul Train dancer and Jeffrey taught Michael Jackson the Moonwalk.
Remember Jeffrey Daniel left Shalamar too before Jody because he called JD’s dancing bullcrap 😳🤣 People always mention Howard and Jody and leave out the Jeffrey Daniel departure, bro was apparently a total a hole. Ms. Watley went on to solo stardom with the most hits and accolades still going strong while the bros Howard and Jeffrey returned after their solo careers stalled out

Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel could be seen on many old Soul Train footage as they were both dancers in the mid 70s. It wouldnt be right not to bring up the man who was responsible for the writing and producing this song. Leon Sylvers, the oldest brother of The Sylvers who was forced voted out of the group by his own family in the late 70s decided to give producing a go. If im not mistaken, the album from 'The Second Time Around' was Sylvers' first project. According to Leon at the time he was with The Sylvers, him and their manager would bump heads and didnt think Leon had the talent to write songs. This would lead his family to force him out of the group influenced by their manager. 'The Second Time Around' would go on to hit Number 8 on the Billboard and Number 1 on the R&B charts. (So much for him not knowing to write songs) Its funny how Leon's sister said if Leon had not left the group, there would not had been song like 'The Second Time Around' and The Whispers 'And the Beat Goes On'.
Far as Shalamar, Wow! They were one of those groups 'who couldve been'. They were a supergroup in the making going into the mid 80s until success got into their heads according to Jody Watley. Watley faced alot of bigotry among the group especially from lead vocalist Howard Hewitt. This would force Watley to quit the group while they were still on top.
And to add I was shocked to find out not too long ago, Leon Sylvers and Jody Wately had a daughter together.

They, as well as many of the major labels would turn down a lot of the strings to make Disco marketable to top 40 stations.
Listen to the 12 inch disco mix if you want to hear how lush this song really sounds. It's wonderful.
