    Many people don’t realize what MJ did to the music industry with “Off The Wall”. At the time there was a rebellion against Disco and many artists and record executives were not sure what direction to go in. This album changed all of that. “Thriller” was a pop culture phenomenon. But “Off The Wall” is the one that gets people on the dance floor🎼🔥🕺🏾

    That was Michael at his peak and at his best. Really it was. He looked great too! Never needed to change his appearance. His musical talent spoke for itself. So much raw talent and energy. Will always love his music.

    This is one of the few album title tracks that I enjoy. Written by the late, great Rod Temperton of Heatwave (who wrote tracks for that group, MJ, George Benson, Michael McDonald, James Ingram, and more). Rod also wrote "Thriller," so there would definitely be some similarities between that and this track. Also, the bassline for this song is reminiscent of the Heatwave hit "Boogie Nights."

    This is a great song to dance to. This song was written by Rod Temperton who was songwriter and a member of the group Heatwave. He later went on to write songs for several artistes including Michael. He also wrote 'Rock with You' and collaborated with Quincey Jones. Good moving Angela! 5 for this one-Colin Ward

    You're right Angela , the beginning is mostly the same than the beginning of Thriller ! (Some songs of Thriller and Off the Wall are written by the genius Rod Temperton (An English compositor who write too for the band Heat Wave , and in your playlist , I heard songs of that good band) . This was his best album... as I share, back when the brother was still black full of soul, r&b, and funk. As the baby of four, I was the one that was stuck in the reverse back seat in the seat of a Ford LTD station wagon and we bumped this album and song on an 8track!

    I remember the first time I heard this song, in the back of my dads Oldsmobile leaving my cousins house. This laugh came and scared me, and the song started, I fell in love with Michael Jackson had no idea he was the voice of the little bit of ABC wr heard as a sample in a 1 hit wonder rap song in Miami. The rock with you and I got stuck on " lets take it slow, we got, so faar ta go" my fav sound of that song. Aaah Michael.

    Angela will be very surprised to learn that both "Off the Wall" and "Rock with You" were first offered to Karen Carpenter to record on her 1979 Solo Album project - she turned them down, and then they were offered to MJ - while his versions are great and have become classics, one cant help wondering what this super-talented woman with the once-in-a-lifetime voice would have done with them...

  • @tgstancat
    @tgstancat Před 2 měsíci +4

    Love this song. Believe it or not but this and rock with you were written for Karen carpenter and her solo album. She passed on these but chose “my body keeps changing my mind” and “loveliness” for her R n b/disco sound on the album. I can hear a great duet by these 2 on this song.

    Angela, i share your deep love of this track. Although i mostly DJ genres like house, dub, acid jazz, latin jazz, downtempo/trip hop, Afrobeat, and underground hip hop on my radio program, I always find some time for old skool funk/soul grooves and the like, and whenever i throw this song into my set, it always makes me smile…and groove out! Timeless and awesome!

    I still prefer the Off the Wall album to Thriller. The earlier one really signaled Jackson's arrival as an adult artist and it seemed mind-blowingly good at the time. The two albums are actually similar in content though Off the Wall has more of that '70s dance vibe. Thriller had a similar song structure (including another McCartney duet) and just amped them all' up to the max. By the way, English keyboard player Rod Temperton of the group Heatwave ("Boogie Nights,'" "Always and Forever") wrote this track as well as several of Michael's biggest hits on both this album and Thriller.

    I don't know what happened in his private life, but as a singer, performer, and entertainer he was extraordinary. His collaborations with Quincy Jones were just brilliant. There were rumours he was going to do a long stint at one of the arenas in UK, if it had happened I would have been there.

    I always liked the "Off the Wall" album better than "Thriller," too. I think the main reason "Thriller" got so huge is because it was soooo hyped. The album was released in '82/'83, a couple of songs were played on the radio, they were good songs but nothing out of the ordinary, and then several months after the release, Jackson started being hyped as "the king of pop" and suddenly people started noticing the album more in order to conform to all the advertising. "Off the Wall" was much better, in my opinion.

    "Off The Wall" is a great album & the title track is good, but, imo, not the best track on the album. 3 tracks on that album stand out to me as better: "Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough", "Rock With You", & "Working Day & Night". Also, as much as i love the "Off The Wall" album, "Thriller" is better imo. As much as people attempt to dismiss or downplay MJ's later work, it was some of his best actually. I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but "Dangerous" is Michael's best overall album.
