Back then, that show “The Midnight Special”, was the ONLY WAY most of us got to seen any of our favorite performers LIVE - or even on video. There were concerts of course, but most people don’t/can’t go, and there was NOTHING else - until MTV arrived, in 1981!
The Spinners had great 1970's hits. In addition to this, there was also such memorable songs as 'I'll Be Around', 'Could it Be I'm Falling in Love' and 'Games People Play.'
The Rubberband Man is a man that the singer saw in a park that had a rubberband wrapped around his toe and had the other end of the rubberband in his hand and the Rubberband man would pull the rubberband up and down to change the pitch of the tone that the rubberband would make when the rubberman man would pluck the rubberband to make sound. The rubberband man would play songs on this rudimentary instrument in such a way that it would blow your mind!
The 70's was such a fantastic era because we had soooo many different genre's of music and they all fitted into the top 40 and played in disco's and clubs..They were known as The Detroit Spinners over here in the UK because we already had a succesful Folk band called The Spinners.. Motown..the sound if Philly..Disco..Pop...Rock.n.roll..still a bit of 60's psychedelics..it was a BANGING ERA..
That's how it's done kids
I love your 70's reactions. Those were the days but music continues to survive. Music is what makes my day. THANK YOU! A follower and happy listener. ❤🎶🎤👩🦳💯👋
I saw the Spinners many times, probably my favorite soul group. Then Came You with Dionne Warwick another classic
Of the 7 and a half decades that i've been around I enjoyed and miss the 70's the most. I was fresh out of the Navy and ready to start life.
I can relate, 1976 I was Deployed Overseas back to the 🌎 in 1978 and took a while to catch up!! Shout out to the 86th Tactical Fighter Wing🇺🇲💪 hooah!! 🤜🤛
@@lucky4724 Ramstein Germany right?
Of the 8 decades I have been alive in, it was the ‘60s for me, but the ‘70s are a close 2nd. ‘60s wild and free high school, 33 months in the Southeast Asian conflict, then ‘70s getting my head back together. Left the world listening to great music came home to great music. Good therapy.
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman Affirmative 👌
@@lucky4724 was born a few hours south of there but have been in Georgia since '73
True music legends, with five part harmony and choreography to match. Listen to their other hit songs from the Spinners. If you going to listen to songs from this era checkout all of their songs before rating them. It's easier to rate them if you hear all of their songs in order to get a feel for the music. 🎶🎼🎵
Hi Angela 😊 Great reaction 😊👍 We always enjoy seeing you moving in your chair and boogieing down😊 On the Boogie meter I will agree with you with a three even though the singer invited the lady to come up on the stage and dance 😊 Yes! a great cooking song and also a great cruising song that we had back in the '70s listen to it on the radio 😊 Have a great day and bye for now😊👍
First heard this song because it on the soundtrack of the comedy film Stripes, which starred Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and John Candy. Great tune.
I was happy that The Spinners just got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past November. This song is one of my favorite songs by them that I listened to when I was a kid.
Some might consider it more of a driving song then a dance song but I certainly danced to it in the '70s. Canadian band Trooper with Raise a Little Hell.
I've wondered what my kids and grandchildren would think today if the found a picture of me during the Disco days. Yet I was one of first in line when oldies stations burned the disco records. LMAO
Sure had a lot of fun dancing back then :) Just turned 20 .... loved to dance !! Thanks for the memories .
Hi Angela, great reaction. The Spinners were a fantastic group.
The Midnight Special was a great forum for music. All the acts performed live.
Just a down right CLASSIC!!
I saw the Spinners do this song live around 1977. I was just a teenager. They were entertaining the crowd at the Phoenix convention center.
❤❤❤❤ i grew up with this song°°°
Fun, fun, fun! Great performance. Loved your reaction.
That was a blast from the past!!
This was the jam
Man... I will live the rest of my life holding onto these days. I keep coming back. We need more music performed like this.
This is what's up 😂 . R.I.P to all of the Spinners ❤ thanks Angela
man did i jam to this when i was a young kid:)
The Spinners are on point here. Great performance from a great band.
My best friend and I saw the Spinners perform at the Marion, Ohio fairgrounds in the 1980s.
I remember when this came out. It was very popular. Great song.
The late, great Phillipe Wynn singing lead!
I grew up listening to all these great tunes I’ve seen young people listening and reacting to from this decade. I’d say, of all the groups of this style and genre of music, these guys are by far my top favourite performers.they have a sound for me. That sound that just moves you, with positive vibes and good feels...great band!
It was a terrible loss for the Spinners when Phillipe Wynn left the group. His antics and great voice were a great part of the groups success. It was an even greater tragedy that after leaving the group for a solo career, that wasn't as great as he'd hoped, he died before his very anticipated return. But his contributions to the legacy stand to make people happy. And to dance.
ONE OF A KIND LOVE AFFAIR,
GHETTO CHILD,
and COULD IT BE I'M FALLING IN LOVE are really good, too.
Keep going and enjoy
would you believe that Alan Thicke was his manager when he went solo?
5/5, try to sit still while listening to this song
The music of the seventies is the soundtrack of my youth. Any and all styles, all mixed and matched. It was magic to me
It is a fun song. It was also a bit of a theme song for me as a teenager when it first came out as I have hyperelastic skin. It is more supposed to be referring to a dancer than someone with hyperelastic skin but that is not the way my friends saw it. I would probably only put it as a 3.
I think I remember it in an Office Max or Office Depot commercial.
Fond memories of grooving to this one during All Skate!!!
🕺💃🕺💃💗
Let's Boogie 😂😂✌️🤠❤️🤍💙
Loved this then and now . Thanks
Loved the Spinners when I was growing up, great band. Check out "Could it be I'm falling in Love", "Working my way back to You" and "I'll be around."
When you play party or dance soul or funk from the 70's you have to play P-Funk, Ohio Players, Kool and the Gang, Brick, the Commodores, Slave, Earth Wind and Fire, Cameo, Brothers Johnson etc.
I remember song just being pervasive as a kid in the ‘70’s. That chorus just brings me back.
Love this song.
You should try "Could it be I'm falling in love". by them.
The chorus is killer. That stuck out for me so much as a kid when it was a hit. I remember Lynda Carter sang it on The Muppets Show.
Haha the rubberband part where you pulled one out yourself was so cute and funny.
Another great selection ... love the feedback ...really love the smile ... and don't get me started on that beautiful hair. As always, very entertaining videos.
Spinners one of the best to ever do it. And Philpe Wynn as a lead singer was sensational
Bobby Smith was no slouch either
@@007ndc he was not, you right
You are correct. It was actually in Office Max commercials.
Just a feel good song!
It was a "Staples" commercial.
ICYMI: That was Natalie Cole (Nat King Cole’s daughter) dancing on stage at the end.
This was always a great song to listen to, loved it from when it first came out, and still.
Acoustically, the studio version sounds better, but it’s still fun
Loved the Spinners
:) in my top 30 songs thank you this song is contagious
best in the chair dancer on you tube !
I'm On Fire by 5000 Voltz is awesome.. Tina Charles is the lead singer.❤❤
There was so much great music in the 70's and so many different styles.
❤
😮😅😅 I wanted to be first forh well. How well hi, Alicia? How come I hit hit hit the log button too
As for the Rubberband Man, NO idea except: was there some colloquial folk tradition similar to a jug band bucket bass with a broomstick and string?? But with a rubberband??
You're hair is incredible!
music seemed to be joyful then!
It was i lived it! I was a kid
Mighty Love would be a next great choice from the Spinners.
The original members are all gone.Made rock and roll hall of fame last year
Philly Soul rules!
Thank you for introducing me to this song.
The Midnight Special was so awesome! I fell in love with this song on the radio, but when I got to see them perform it on the Midnight Special, I was blown away!
These guys are simply unmatched
Unlike soul train, the midnight special was live performances. There was no lip syncing.
My favorite by them is I'll Be Around! Oh yeah, that would be a tie with I'll Be Working My Way Back To You Babe! The song you're playing has a studio version that's pretty long! I forget how long! Boogie meter 3! See ya!
MY favorite by them is I'll Be Around, too. Love that track!
This was Briefly Playing on the Milano in INFINITY WARS , When the GOG found THOR! 🎶
Fun days.
The Muppets had a great cover of this one.
Detroit boy here born in the 1960s. We all grew up listening to Motown, rock, funk, soul, jazz, later techno, hip hop. John Lee Hooker perfected his electric delta blues style while living in Detroit, influenced by the jazz and blues legends that played here. We invented proto punk with The MC5 and Iggy and The Stooges. George Clinton, while working for Motown Records, laid down early funk with what would become Parliament while here. Rock Soul mixes like Bob Seger. Later we did techno and innovative pop like the White Stripes. One of the greatest musical melting pots in the western hemisphere. We are exactly all the contradictions that exist in America.
Song been spinning around in my head for nearly 50 years! Thanks Angela!
😅😅😅😅
😅😅
thank you very much it was nice to hear this agan
It's a solid 4 for me
The Original Album extended version is the best beat
Hi Ms. D., Love the Spinners, never liked the guy with the mutton chops.. He was replaced by Jonathan Edwards i think..
They did a song with Ms. Dionne Warwick.. ♠Mr.G..
5:30--It's even got enough kick for Marvel's space superhero team, The Guardians of The Galaxy, to have it blasting on thier ship. ( "Avengers Endgame "2019), and yeah, it's been in a few ads, too. I'll give the STUDIO version a 5 star--It's got a much better groove than the Midnight Special's house band did.
OfficeMax Commercial...
I agree. This is a 3 for me.
In this case the studio version is way better than the live.
This is a great funky dance number from The Spinners. I would rate this a 4-Colin Ward
Yeah, that backing band did not slack one bit!
But great song!!!
I've never figured out why this was successful. The lead couldn't hit a note with a shotgun.
Hola bonita vio el eclipse ?
Just an opinion, but studio recording gives you a better... feel
Hello Angela,
I just wanted to ask if you could please, please react to The Carpenters..."ORDINARY FOOL" Karen out does herself. I am telling you...I PROMISE YOU!!!!
Answer to your question, I have no idea! You may be right but who knows! Bye once again!
There's no 70s Dance Party without the Village People, YMCA, or Hot Chocolate, You Sexy Thing! Just saying!
Even in the UK, the lower to late 1970s were a time for going to disco in smart suits with flyaway collars, and looking smart, especially with well-groomed hair. You felt you had gone out.
I like many of The Spinners songs but thus one didn’t do anything for me
With you.
Studio is much better
Shame on the Blacks for going from this (Sheer Genius), to (C)rap.
I hated this Song in 76, and still do
This shitty song showed that they were going down hill!
I love to Dance and sing this song while Fighting.
It wud throw the Tough Guy Off and sometime Scare them Off, Very Funny.
I cud get some good Shots in while dancing.
Peace OOt Eh from Canada.
