A gem of a chart by Freddie Hubbard. This is a straight-eighths groove at 132 BPM with written solos for tenor and trumpet 2. The trumpet 1 range is to written G on top of the staff and it has a clever interlude and a nice shout chorus too. A great jazz standard superbly arranged! (5:41)

Played this at the PMEA District 3 jazz festival. Our director said that Mike Kamuf was a friend of his, and in the trumpet solo there was a lick that him and Mike were banned from using in college cause they over used it. It was a throwback moment when he realized it. This was by far by favorite song in the red bands selection. I was red band lead tenor, and this song really tested my improv, and I learned more in those two days at the festival and from this song then the rest of the year (music wise)
edit: More context- there are 3 bands, red band (top band), white band (second band), and blue band (third band).
Bassist has it goin' on! Not enough baritone sax in this world...this one is excellent!!
I love this arrangement. The original song is a classic. Being lead trumpet, the soli is awesome with the saxes.
The half feel from the drummer, which is not written that way, makes the chart stand out.
Some great work there.
the solis are trumpet 2 only
@@jackp-w3886 they're written in the first part though
I was lucky and got the awesome trumpet 2 part. It was one the most fun songs I have ever done!
the bass part>>
get to play the trumpet solo for this next week at a concert. Its my second ever solo so im a bit nervous but very excited!!!!!!
I have the bari part in this. So awesome.
send it to me plz
Black coffee
Ian Ditlevsen same I love when it does the base part
I do too, it’s amazing
So this is epic, I love playing this part
I NEED a transcription of whatever the 2nd trumpet player played at 46! It was so good
Stunning KILLER arrangement of this timeless classic, and GIVE THE DRUMMER SOME! DAMN!
Mike Kamuf, you make some sweet arrangements. Very cool
A couple years ago, my high school played this, and I somehow got Mike to give feedback on a recording of our performance, and the next week, we got to talk to him over zoom. Really cool dude!
How is this grade 2... Its amazing but a 2?
Love how the drummer actually played it differently from the score. The drum part on the score isn't good at all.
yeah i agree, the drum score is garbage. i play it in double time and i’ve actually asked my band what they think sounds good, so we’re really solid on this song. by far my favourite song to play in jazz band
Drum scores are never good if drummers played what it actually said part they’d never get hired for anything
InstaBlaster
yeah the bass player isn't playing what's written for the solo section either.
guitar part kinda sucks too- most the song its parts are written like its another horn player. love what the guitarist played in the solo section tho, differed from the score a bit
I love the base cords.
Skillz2PayBillz sorry but Bass*
How do you know they weren’t saying they like the foundational chords?
@@node2574; No, "base'" is correct. You know, as in "FREE BASE"
jonsilence it was 3 years ago when I said that, i was 13. I didn’t know any music theory back then my bad
@@node2574 No worries bro, I was just having a little fun with you. :)
Ok what the hell this arrangement bops
It's amazing! Great job
What a classic ;)
I Heard This Song On W.C.L.K THE JAZZ OF THE CITY many times and #1 Never Knew That It Was Called "Red Clay" Or That Freddie Hurbert Wrote This Song.😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
yes, ty!
4:00 the drum part sucks but right there I do it as written and rest for a beat, it sounds sick when the whole band suddenly stops and suddenly starts vibin again
That’s good dude I tried it with my band
I play this work in mine jazz band

Who is the drummer?
@@michaelkamuf2530 Amazing! I love all your Arrangements Michael! However, I've tried to get the names of the people who recorded these arrangements for Alfred , but they are nowhere to be found, why isn't shown? But my question is who recorded the first alto? thank you!
Really like the drummer.... who is it?
I got the piano/organ whatever thingy
I believe the name of that Epiano is a Rhode
I made the purchase of this score but the shipment never reached me.
Altisimo G is so hard on tenor 😭
drummer didnt follow the score....
Cain James Peterson yeah of course. The person who wrote this isn't a drummer. The drum part of the score sounds actually very bad if you play exactly what it says.
Cain James Peterson and the drummer in this video played it half-time, it sounded really cool
Hey, sorry about that. I had to play this song and had only half an hour to figure out the drum part. couldnt transcribe it in time but now that i have, It is really awesome and it has helped me play better with my orchestra. nevertheless thanks so much for the video. I love the groove and his interpretation towards it.
Thanks so much for the video.
@@CainJamesPeterson the drums part sounds amazing! I’m playing the drum part for my middle school right now and it’s a really fun but hard song for my band, hope we get better at it
Sounds really brittle. Is this serious? That’s a lot of time wasted lol
