A good thing to know is after you for example /give @s diamond 1 1, name the diamond something or it will stack with other diamonds changing is data value to the diamond put on it after.

Hey, I've tried to use this with redstone blocks but it can't tell the difference between the data tags. Does anyone know why this is? Does it just not work with blocks?

in a way yes, you cant use "name=" but you can use data so you can get a item with a data of 3 and detect for item with data of 3 instead of name.

What i discovered was you can name items with a data value by using an anvil. An example of this would include:
/give @s enchanted_book 1 3 (because they will not stack)
go and rename the book at an anvil (I chose click)
/testfor @p[hasitem={item=enchanted_book,data=3}]
Using a structure block change the size of x y and z to 1, change the offset to 1
drop the item you wish to duplicate ontop of the structure block (this is how you get them to stack)
save the structure then spam load to duplicate and stack your item.

I think you put .. before the number. I saw another CZcamsr called JDog do that. You can look up his tutorial.

How do I give myself a tool with custom data?. I tried it and it counted as durability and didn’t change from data 0
Give @p diamond 1(amount) 1..infinity (data)
I meant a tool, like a pickaxe or armor, when I use /give @s iron_boots 1 1 it counts as durability and the hasitem command doesn’t detect it with /data. Is there a fix or will I have to find another way?

Use data yes not name go give @p nether_star 1 5 so data will be 5 and use data 5 in the has item command

Just use data instead of name but yes you could do @e[name=item,hasitem

@@zaccthebanana1887 I just tried to do it but the command still has bugs and the command doesn’t work for non stackable items yet. It should work in theory but it just doesn’t. The way it would work is
/give @a[hasitem={location=slot.armor.chest,slot=0,item=netherite_chestplate,data=1}] diamond
The reason it doesn’t work is because the data tag is broken
