    One of the main things I struggle with is changing gears whilst steering such as at a roundabout, moving swiftly from first to second. I assume that'll just take practice to get comfortable with.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před rokem

      Hi, if your clutch biting point is high, then as you change gear, lift up clutch quicker but slow right down as you reach the biting point and take longer to lift off.
      If you biting points low, then slow the lift off even more. The judder is because the engine is having to quickly slow down to match the gear. So more time to lift off clutch is needed.

  • @helensmith9209

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety +1

      What you want to do is practice on a quiet flat road with no handbrake on, just practice lifting slowly the clutch and stop just below the biting point then practice lifting slowly and then lowering it.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před rokem

      If the car jerks when you lift off the clutch then it could be your foot coming off too fast.
      If the car is struggling when you lift off clutch, it could be you are slowing too much and need to get off the brake.

    The part about changing into 3rd approaching a roundabout - is it a necessity? I've read that on a modern manual car, you can go down to a second gear type of speed while still in 4th or 5th, and so save yourself an extra gear change.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety

      Yes you can change(it’s called block change ) gears by skipping out others as long as you get the speed down. If you watch some of my other videos on gears or roundabouts you will see me demonstrate or talk about it. Safe driving

I usually stop with gas and break little to reduce the speed then change gear from 6 to 4 and then 2. Sometimes when I am close to the roundabout the speed is 30kph, is it ok? if i do not see any car on roundabout should I remain with a speed around 30kph?

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 5 lety +2

Am I correct in using the right hand lane and signalling left and moving across just after I pass the 1st exit? Both lanes go around the roundabout and it looks like either could be used, but I don’t want to cut anyone up on my left as I take my exit. The exit I am taking only has one lane.

    Great video👍🏻 I have a problem of when I come to roundabouts or junctions I won’t take my foot off the clutch when slowly going down gears individually or even when I’m going around a round about and I think it’s because of I’m scared of juggering, when stopping at a roundabout do I keep my foot on the clutch to get ready to pull off while accelerating or do I take my foot off the clutch then accelerate without my foot being on the clutch at all?

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 4 lety +2

      Moving off from roundabouts. Gas and clutch to biting point, when car is moving and picking up speed, lifting up clutch, you will probably at that point go back down on clutch to change to 2nd.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 4 lety +1

      It is either one of two things causing this.
      A. The last bit of the lift on the clutch pedal needs to slow down more to adjust the speed.
      Or
      B. Bring your speed down more for the 2nd gear

    Hi Travis, when there is no traffic and you are about to approach roundabout from high speed, you always change the gear into 2nd or 3rd depending on the speed. In that case, do we need to press the accelerator and leave the clutch slowly or can we just leave the clutch slowly without using/ pressing accelerator?
    Because I heard from some people that you can leave the clutch slowly when changing the gears without pressing accelerator. Is it true?
    I’ve been pressing the accelerator whenever i use clutch because this is what my instructor taught me. And now i heard i can lift the clutch up without using accelerator and im scared to do that. Please help, im confused.
    I hope it makes sense, sorry abt my English.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety +1

      When approaching roundabout/junction. You slow with brake, when speed is down to the gear you want such as 2nd you press clutch and change to 2nd gear whilst braking just enough to hold your approach speed similar. After changing gear you start to lift up clutch slowly whist still braking if needed on approach. At that point your left foot could be covering the clutch pedal but not pressing it just in case you need to give way to traffic, if you need to give way to traffic, then clutch back down whist braking to stop.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 4 lety

      Personally, i would not. It can be done if you hold back on the gear change and use lots more fuel building up your speed in 3rd. But if you go from 3rd to 5th without building your speed up, then you will not increase your speed as quick as you might like in the 5th gear at that point.
