Roy Orbison had one of the most smooth powerful voices. He could sing real high falsetto & also low. Elvis Presley loved Roy's voice. Roy was known for performing while standing motionless & wearing black clothes to match his dyed black hair & dark sunglasses. Roy had lots of hits in the 60's such as "Only the Lonely", "Running Scared", "Crying", "In Dreams", "Love Hurts", "Blue Bayou" etc. In 1988, he co-founded the rock supergroup "Traveling Wilburys" with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care", "End Of The Line" etc.

Elvis Presley said Roy Orbison had the ‘most perfect voice’ and referred to Roy as the best singer in the world. Roy Orbison had tragedy plague his life. His wife Claudette was killed in a motorcycle accident, and his two eldest children died in a house fire. My favourite Roy Orbison songs: Pretty Woman (which you just reacted to), You Got It, Only the Lonely (Know the Way I Feel), I Drove All Night, In Dreams, Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream), Claudette, Ooby Dooby, Blue Angel, Love Hurts, Crying, Running Scared, Lana, Uptown, Candy Man, She’s a Mystery to Me, California Blue, Working for the Man, Leah, Mean Woman Blues, Falling, Pretty Paper, Blue Bayou, It’s Over, Communication Breakdown, Penny Arcade, (Say) You’re My Girl and End of the Line which he recorded with the Traveling Wilburys.

Funny you mention those, because there were also movies using those titles. A lot of movies starting in 80s would use titles of popular songs because they were already in public consciousness. Therefore they were effective way of advertising if people automatically knew the song and it could be used in commercials or in movie soundtrack.

Read in a comment on another channel review of a Roy Orbison song. The quote was, back in the time of Elvis, Elvis was asked how he felt about having the best singing voice in the world, Elvis replied, "I don't know, ask Roy Orbison". For decades have people have tried to describe Roy Orbison's voice and nobody can, they simply say he's unmatched. His connection to people was and is beyond anything you can label. Not long before he died he did a concert in black and white film. The concert/movie is called Roy Orbison - A Black and White Night. It is an absolute must watch if you were triggered by this reaction to his music. It is incredible and then you start to notice the legends sitting in the band playing with him that night. Ya can't name them all. Watch it, you won't be sorry.

Roy wrote “Blue Bayou” in 1963 that Linda Ronstadt made famous in the 70s and has been played forever. Who could not love Roy Orbison or “Pretty Woman?” Roy was signed by Sun Records when Elvis and Johnny Cash left for other labels. Sun had Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison to continue the best music content along with Sam Cooke until the Beatles popped onto the scene. Then came The Four Seasons

Roy was known as the "Caruso of Rock" - Erique Caruso being a famous opera singer from the '30s. This song came out in 1965.

Roy was the reason for The Wilburys. George Harrison and Jeff Lynn were going to record a track for a single "B" side, and as Jeff was working with Roy as well, Roy decided to come along. Bob Dylan and Tom Petty came with for a chance to work with the legendary Roy. His voice? Try Crying or Only The Lonely.

Guys, this is such a short version. You really need to see his Sept 87 performance at LA's Coconut Grove lounge of the Ambassador Hotel with Bruce Springsteen, KD Lang and many others. It's magical. And this cut gets a major guitar jam in the middle with some legends. Glad you finally got to it. 👍Yeah, like mentioned below it was called Black and White Nights.

Roy Orbison had one of the saddest lives. It was amazing entertainment schedule and his ability to keep his head up with all the heartache he had suffered

Pretty Woman was WAY before the movie. On Wilbury's video Handle me with care, the empty rocking chair was for Roy.

Ten years at my 40th high school reunion the DJ played this song and a girl I wanted to dance with just walked by. I asked her to dance and we danced. I wouldn't have asked her to dance to this song if she didn't walk by.

When I think of the song, pretty woman doesn’t occur to me to think of a film, which came decades later.

Roy has lots of great songs. He always wore black incl the sunglasses at performances, not sure if lights borthered him but he did have poor vision for sure. His folks gave him a guitar at six and at 8 he played live on the radio! By 9 he had his own weekly radio show! Amazing dude.
Check out 'Only The Lonely' next perhaps.
    Cheers.

The movie did not make this song. It was huge way before. Check out Black and White Night. He, Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello do an extended version of this, and all of Roy’s hits. You already heard Linda Ronstadt cover his Blue Bayou. You Got It, Dream Baby, Crying, Love Hurts (covered by Nazareth in 1975) are all excellent. Roy, Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash all gave Rock and Rockabilly a great jump start in the 50s, and kept going it into the 60s and 70s. Long Live Rock!!!!!!
