    When I got my custom exhaust put on, I did run with egr hooked up, but hose was capped as there was no connection on the long tubes which I expected. I did not have a 411 pcm swap done and still don't, but a few months later after the egr valve not being hooked up to the headers, decided to get it put back on because didn't quite like the gas mileage because I don't have a tune to tune out the egr. I did lose just a tiny bit putting it back in, but gained back significant mpg which I am happy with as long as I stay off the throttle. It ran beautifully without the egr hooked up, just got tired of seeing the money light and wanted my mpg back.

      Had a power steering hose leak once. But surprisingly no leaks from the engine(1998 130K miles, K2500 4WD, 5.7 Vortec). I did have to replace the intake manifold gaskets back in 2016. Water filled up the oil pan all the way to the crankshaft. Apparently there was a flaw in the 5.7 vortec engine intake gaskets back then. All good now. It's amazing how an engine behaves full of oil and water. I thank my lucky stars I know how to fix cars.

I installed new OEM looking headers that actually came with the block off cap for the header egr port. Since it had that cap I also capped off the EGR intake manifold inlet area with another cap I had in my tool box. It's amazing how much carbon the EGR injects into our motors. This system might improve the emissions at the pipe but it RUINS the motor by clogging it with carbon. The idiot above talking about "real mechanic" doesn't know what improves engines performance. If we didn't have emissions NAZI's our engines would make more power, run longer and cleaner. But that's the World we live in.

      Bc the map sensor. What do you do with it once the egr is pulled. It’s not getting a reading anymore from the egr

    lol EGR system is to get rid of unburned shit in your combustion chamber... I wonder if Usain Bolt got the end of his colon plugged to "run better"

    • @TheGMMan
      @TheGMMan  Před 4 lety +2

      You misunderstand the EGR's function or it has been misrepresented to you.
      The EGR puts exhaust gas back into the intake stream. This isn't to burn "unburned gas" - the exhaust gas is mostly inert. The idea is that this inert gas helps cool the combustion chamber, preventing detonation (spark knock/ping.) It allows for a more aggressive timing curve on the specified grade of fuel (regular, in your truck's example.)
      If you delete it, your tune will need to compensate for that in terms of the timing curve. It's something any good tuner already understands. If you delete it and don't make any change in the tune, you will have pinging, which will eventually destroy the engine. It hammers the shit out of the bearings and can damage pistons.

      And that being said my truck is a BUILT 350(355) has headers true dual exhaust. It doesn't hurt the motor I asked 3 mechanics before doing it. Why do diesels do EGR deletes then?🤔

      I didn't put new headers in my car, only did the cat delete.
      Will it create problems to my engine if I delete the egr?

    What’s the purpose for deleting the egr valve?

    • @TheGMMan
      @TheGMMan  Před 5 lety +1

      Egr systems have been known to cause serious issues in an engine, including stuck valves, coolant problems, and leaky cylinders. An egr delete kit removes the egr system and allows a vehicle's engine to run at cooler temperatures.

      I talked to 2 mechanic before doing it. They said since I'm running performance headers with a performance exhaust it won't hurt anything. They said if it's a BONE STOCK truck they wouldn't recommend it. And plus I did all my research so hope off the hate train...
