My first car was a '11 Versa and the handling was awesome! Used to beat fast cars in moderate traffic but not in a straight line lmfao
I purchased a 23 Versa S. I love it! I drive 80 miles round trip to work. The fuel mileage is great. It is a bit sluggish on take off, but winds out nicely. Plenty of power. I highly recommend this car.
Love it! This what I tell everyone who is looking for a cheap daily beater. Buy a cheap new car thats BRAND new - You know the tires are new - Breaks are new - AC blows cold air - Paint is perfect - No accidents! Yet they get a 10 y/o Audi! And pay thru their rear when the dash warnings start lighting up in month 2 of ownership!
Exactly my friend but most are incapable of thinking to this extent. It's almost impossible to make the average person understand the pragmatic things you just laid out. They go out and get the clapped out used car with no warranty or anything. Buying the wrong used cars have Crippled people yet they keep going back for more.
I bought a 2019 Maxima for me and I bought 2020 Versa for my wife. The Versa is a very pleasant car to drive and I drive it more than my Max. It has satisfying acceleration and runs smoothly and quietly at high speeds. It has tons of sensors and driving aides. With the market these days the Versa is a smart buy. That's coming from an 82 year old driver.
I bought an SV in 2021. It's an awesome car, huge interior and if driven right, 50 plus mpg. You're right, I think this is an overlooked gem of a car.
I have a 2018 base model Versa that I bought new. I've been driving manual transmission cars for over 50 years so it's not an issue. 56,000 miles so far and the only issue was a noisy rear wheel bearing that I replaced myself for under $40. It averages 41 MPG, mostly highway. Paid $11,500 cash out the door with all taxes and fees.
3:03 I love what you said here about the lack of cheap cars! I was SHOCKED when you said it was only ~$17k!!! If anyone is thinking about buying a car for their teen/young adult (or even for themselves) I'd recommend the Nissan Versa!
My first car is a (because I still drive it) used 2012 Nissan Versa and my dad bought it for me back around 2016/17. I don't remember the mileage, but it's now 2023, I'm a delivery driver who works 40 hrs/week in this car, and Sexxy Red (my car's name lol) has >123k miles on her. The longest trips I've made was 3 hours from rural GA to Atlanta, GA or middle GA area and back a few times.
I only get her serviced twice a year because "girl math" and I'm low-income right now. Of course, more if something is wrong before maintenance time (ex: she needed new tires a few months ago). I do some maintenance by myself such as putting the air in the tires, changing the windshield wipers, & adding the cooling liquid. I'm going to attempt headlight restoration when I get it out the shop. She doesn't have any up-to-date features, but she is RELIABLE and the maintenance is CHEAP. Also, I can add the features I'd like (car play, back up cam, dash cam, & accessories) myself or get someone else to do it for $500-600.
If (GOD FORBID) she breaks down to being unrepairable before I get a better job and/or pay, I will DEFINITELY consider getting a 2023/24 Versa!
I got my Versa SR 2023 Canadian version October 5th 2023. Despite not getting adaptive cruise control, I am very satisfied. Awesome gas mileage!

Nissan doesn't get enough love. It's true. I have a 2015 Nissan (Versa) Note. It's been faultless. If you can't afford a NEW Mercedes or BMW then you can't afford a Mercedes or BMW. These Versas are easy to access under the hood which translates to less labor hours when repairing, ie. cheaper to fix. Good video.

Great video and I absolutely love the message you're conveying here, Kevin! Buying an affordable new car under warranty is way smarter than buying some 15-20 year old used car with high mileage and no warranty. I truly hope that Versa has phenomenal sales figures in 2024 so that Nissan decides to keep the Versa and doesn't cancel it like pretty much every other small cheap new car. We desperately need more cheap new cars like the Versa!
Yea my friend the other problem with used cars right now is super high interest rates or perhaps even no financing at all due to how strict banks have gotten.
So you compile repair, depreciation, maintenance, interest charge, etc. it’s simply not worth it anymore to look into the used market.
I wanted to make a vid addressing this but they’ve increased the price of compact cars to basically $25k and have done away with many subcompacts like the Yaris, Rio, Accent, Mirage, Sonic, etc and now this Versa is the only affordable new car that stands. I feel they will do away with this Versa soon to get rid of all affordable options for people

I got a 2023 manual versa new last year and I'm loving it so far. It has the utilitarianism/basicness that i was looking for in terms of "less things that can go wrong" but it's surprisingly comfortable in terms of ride quality and seating. Especially compared to the econoboxes of yesteryear. And then yes it has a lot of modern conveniences on top of that. It does feel light and flimsy in a way but that also makes it feel nimble enough with the power to weight ratio being pretty decent. And with the manual its actually pretty fun to drive.

I agree with absolutely everything in this video EXCEPT... the Nissan CVT is NOT the same as the CVT in Hondas, Toyotas, etc. You have to look at where the car manufacturer procures their CVT engine. CVTs in general aren't that great when it comes to long-term reliability (my opinion). But the Nissan CVT In particular is baaaaad. And yes, I've owned one. Never again. I will be buying a Nissan Versa soon, but it will be a manual transmission. 👍

Sounds like if u want a manual transmission u pretty much have to order it. Probably a few out there here and there. But not much.
The manual is a saving grace since it makes any worries about the cvt reliability disappear. And it’s cheaper to the point you won’t miss out on the extra 10% spent on gas.
This was my logic when I purchased my car... I bought my 2018 elantra new for 17k (probably around 20k otd) in a time when there were so many discounts and the 2019s were coming in. 30/40 fuel economy and it's given me very few problems and now it's sitting at 212k miles. Had to fix a coolant leak from a hose, coils, and a tie rod, that's about it. Started burning a lot of oil around 200k but I switched to 10w30 and that mostly fixed that. Pretty much pay the $300 a month and drive

Earlier JATCO CVTs were very maintenance dependent. Couple that with manufactures that didn’t include a 15k maintenance fluid interval which is what they needed to last - and yeah, you get tons of failed CVTs. Definitely more than other brands. Time will tell how they have improved
So right. I got a used car before I know about this thing. Now I can't find this car in the manual. But I'm looking into now.

Yeah they are nice but also have many engine problems.
I am in the process of buying one with a manual transmission, but I have to wait for availability. I think that the stock rims look fine. However, these have cold start issues so I will add a block heater and an aftermarket arm rest.

People have a problem with the Nissan CVT transmission and not with the Honda or Toyota CVT transmission because the Honda and Toyota CVT transmission are actually very reliable compared to the very unreliable Nissan CVT transmission.
I would buy this versa if I could find the 5 speed manual version, but the 5 speed manual is nearly impossible to find, not that people are ignoring it.

If I need to buy a car today, I would seriously consider a Vesa manual. I just wish they had the higher trims with manuals. I currently have a 19 Hyundai Accent manual that I love. Also only available in the base trim but I did get it out the door with less than $14K new. These inexpensive cars are disappearing. It does 0-60 in 7.5s as tested by Car and Driver and I get 38 mpg mix and 46 mpg on the highway. Driven 65K miles with no problems.

Great review, Kevin. a little stern, but your approach is absolutely true and, at the same time, good advice. Buying luxury cars as they approach or are out of warranty is a true dice roll. I have heard a 1000 times that Nissan was not as good as Toyota or Honda. In hindsight, I've never owned a Nissan, I think you're right, I'm guilty.

I have owned a SR trim about 3 weeks now and loved it since.
I have a 2015 versa manual. I had 2 batteries died on me 😢😢. Other than that no problem whatsoever. I think it will last another 10 years and over 100k 😢😢😢. The problem is I can’t sell it because I know how good this car is but I am a millionaire and want to drive a Lexus rx350 as my next car but don’t want to carry 2 cars when I don’t drive very much.
I glanced at this some years back, but hopefully I won't be in the market for years. Nonetheless I'd be curious if the Nissan Versa can last 300000+ nearly all highway miles with easy/light maintenance.

The manual probably would as long as you do the standard 5000 mile oil and 50000 mile tranny fluid changes but from what I've seen most cars that fail early are the result of poor maintenance

No keyless entry or push button start on the S trim anymore. They took it away on 2023. Regular old key, not even a key fob, you have to stick the actual key in the door to open it.
I'm a nissan guy as well and appreciate nissans etc.
But I must correct you on the cv transmission. Toyota and Honda cv are superior to Nissan cv.
Lol the double standard is so true. This car is exactly what I want in a new affordable subcompact car, but Im hesitant to buy one cause its a Nissan. If Toyota revives the Yaris here in the US, Im choosing that over the Versa in a heartbeat
A manual Versa would be great if it was on a more-premium trim level instead of a base/stripped-down one, like what Japanese automakers tended to do in the US subcompact/compact market until they mostly abandoned it (both subcompacts & manuals) in favor of larger, bloated, overpriced vehicles. Loved my 2015 Yaris SE hatch 5-MT before it was crushed by a distracted driver & put into the grave in late 2019. I would buy another new one just like it today if I could, over all the tech-bloated crap they call automobiles now.

Basically you got the car for MSRP and they added tax, doc, and fees. it's ok would be nice if you can get more off because the higher price you pay for a Versa, the more it will depreciate try some other dealers too

@@user-zu1gd9mk7y I think they probably gave you a $500 discount. It’s ok I personally would prefer the base model as I don’t like over paying for vehicles like this and getting the top trims. Def get quotes from 2-4 dealers tho
If they would bring back the automatic, this would be the best car.
The major problem, and where they are still gouging you are, if you want virtually ANY options, you have to get the nasty CVT transmission.
While true other brands such as Honda Subaru an Toyota use cvt those brands r known for long term reliability an they’ve found a way to make their cvt reliable, Nissans cvts had a higher rate of failure in the early 2000s an 2010s, starting maybe in 16-18 they’ve they have less of a higher rate of failure than before so they’ve worked out some of the kinks, an cvts can’t be repaired dude once it breaks you have to replace the entire engine no mechanic has knowledge on how to fix these
Not a bad little rig, If I was looking for a vehicle like this I would probably cough up the extra $ for a corolla. It would probably last longer and maintain a higher resale value with age. Although if the budget is really tight this is a great option.
The Toyota will also come with everyone’s favorite, the CVT. Friends of mine have experienced failures in the past but you’re right because of the Toyota branding, it will have better resale than its peers despite any issues.
Nissan made some horrendous decisions in the recent decades. but i am glad they are looking forward to improve their vehicles and completely abandoning the CVTs. even thought their CVTs got better, pretty sure their current lineup are way more durable than the earlier CVT cars.
Where i reside, their N16 Sunnies were considered the epitome of durability and reliability, plenty of them from early 2000s are at 1 million kilometer mark and still going strong. However, in 2013, they discontinued their most reputable and durable car and they got crucified by locals for calling the N17 a Sunny.
Nissans dumbest mistake was their refusal to globalize their most durable sedan, which was the N16 sunny. hope they will never make such mistake ever again
Quality has taken a dump across the board not just with cars, but with every other industry as well.
They’re not interested in giving us affordable long lasting products my friend. Those days are long gone unfortunately but many think these corps have our best interest in mind.

It really is a said state of affairs we are in and difficult to make recommendations that can help the average person because the average is what they are trying their hardest to cut down.
I can’t really recommend used cars with their inflated prices, high interest rates, and super high mileage, average person just can’t afford it.
New car like this Versa is lame and most can’t operate a manual to take advantage of its low buy in price. To get the low interest rates on new cars one will have to finance for 36 months where payments are over $500 a month and many can’t afford that.
It’s just so difficult to provide pragmatic advice to the point where riding the bus for $50 a month might be the best advice but at the cost of huge inconvenience for a family.
If you or anyone else has better ideas/recommendations for the average person I am more than happy to listen and provide said advice in future content. Thank you and God Bless

Power of leasing is really enhanced for business owners, everyone should at least start an eBay store after consulting their CPA, really easy small business and can get back money from selling things in their home

I was watching some vids from families in Australia and man it really can be expensive over there for everyday items. Do you know how much some of the cheapest new cars cost in Australia right now? I know some vehicles can be double the price there

@@Excalabur50 oh yes I remember you did share this with me before and that’s not bad glad to see there are some affordable options for people but who knows how long these vehicles will be available for sale. Here in the states the sub compact market has pretty much vanished, I think this Versa is the only one standing. Compact cars like Civics are almost $25k starting. Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and Nissan start at a little less for their compacts

There's no such thing as a $17,000 2024 Versa. Anywhere in the USA. Period. Never existed. Prove me wrong. Dealerships mark these up well past $20,000 for the base and SR versions. The manuals are unicorns, good luck finding one. Nissans CVT's aren't total crap anymore but it wont matter, and it's not Nissans fault, it's their transmission manufacturer Jatco. They had the opportunity to own the CVT market but couldn't figure out how to make a reliable CVT despite being ahead of every other manufacturer making one. They finally are getting about on par with everyone else reliability wise, but the damage is done. Their rep is shot and no one trusts them anymore, as they should. Trust is earned, Jatco doesn't deserve it.
As an aside, ALL CVT's are good enough, as in if you follow the maintenance specs on them (oil change at maximum 30,000 miles, average price around $300+/-) they will last at least to 100,000 miles, the average length of ownership that you should get out of any new car. Some will do even better. Just a heads up there.
for 2024 the model S M/T (5 spd manual) is base 16,390 + freight 1140 + mats 180 + splash guards 245 = $17,955.00
At least you can get a manual and avoid their crappie CVT.
BTW, most, if not all, CVT are trash.
CVTs allow economy cars to get near hybrid levels of fuel economy but everyone is looking for the perfect car and it simply doesn’t exist.
If reliability is truly that great of a concern and no decent mechanic lives in your city, you can always just pay to have the warranty extended.
I highly doubt the average person will start a small business and start lease hacking new cars so that’s out of the question
@MeynMotorGroup Besides being unreliable. To replace a CVT coast 8k to 12k. That will total most cars. My suggestion is to avoid CVT if you can. Plus 9spd auto are almost as efficient as a CVT, and cheaper to repair or replace.

@@deronthomas7904 This is 100% false. As a former Nissan Tech with 18 years of experience, Nissan CVT's are trash if you don't maintain it. Yes you have other brands like Toyota, Subaru, Honda, who have much reliable CVT's when not maintain them but they will still far apart if you don't maintain them. But for Nissan, proper maintenance IS A MUST!!!! I've seen Nissan CVT's go 300k miles before it even showed any issues, but you know what the secrets was, this lady changed her cvt fluid every 30k miles as stated in the owners manual.
CVT's are just like a traditional 8 or 9 speed transmission. I dare you to drive a 9 speed chevy or Ford without changing the transmission fluid over 100k miles and see how long it lasts.

They lease status cars that fall apart and when they start falling apart they dump it back to the dealership while they get another new one. And the people that say “I got this $120k Benz for $30k” they get to deal with all the problems not the first guy.
nissans transmissions are infamous for failing and don't say toyota and honda are on the same page lol insane to say that bs and i promise you a 2017 Camry will outlast this versa by years ,have had two nissans versa and sentra 2016 both transmissions gave out at 70 k miles and the other at 80k both where burning oi;,while my 2010 rav 4 at 175 k its still ruining with the original transmission no oil burning yet ,Nissan did it to themselves
