ANOTHER Broken 2018 MacBook Pro From eBay for $700 - Can I Fix It?

- CZcams Comments Helped Me Fix A MacBook Pro - Liquid Damage! In my last MacBook Pro repair video (link below) I tried to fix a liquid damaged computer that I bought for $865 but couldn't figure it out. Luckily, I received some great tips for diagnosing the problem in the video comments that I'm using in this video. I identified and replaced a faulty CD3215 chip which fixed the charging problem but the computer still wouldn't turn on. I decided to let it charge fully and then try again... and it worked!
But now that I've fixed my first Apple computer I've gotta keep at it so I bought another broken MacBook Pro (for about $700) to see if I can go 2 for 2. The case on this one looked pretty beat up but once I got it opened up it looked pretty good inside... except for a lot of liquid damage. The computer also wouldn't charge and I identified a shorted ISL9240 chip and a seriously damaged USBC port. This one's going to be tricky to fix though since ISL9240 chips aren't easy to come by. I guess I'll have to try to finish fixing this one in another video.

This man has single handedly made me choose to do electrician course at college so I can do console repairs, impressive:)
Wow, cool! Hope you like it!
Haha,, me watch a video about fixing electronics things make me want to learn electrics, then watching a guys programming pc make me want to learn programming language.. Haha.. Damn
Yeah that's why I'm going into ECE
@@Janszzz Electrical engineers do both :P
@@Tronicsfix I have an PS3 with an broken BT Module, what liquid do you Use to get that Chip off the Board? By the way i love ur Videos ♥️
I am a bit shocked that a macbok (pro) that looks like someone threw off a bridge still costs 700 bucks. Wtf
Newish MacBook Pro's are still expensive...even when broken
It still had the logo untouched man, thats at least 600 bucks
The value of brand identity is more than a lot of people know.
Apple makes it tough to get parts. Even a busted Late model Mac is a sea of high dollar parts.
@@Tronicsfix I have the chip in-stock if you like to buy it I have my own ebay acc
My opinion is different: Fix ALL the things! Find more laptops! Maybe try to fix a TV that looks fine but won't power on!
Sky's the limit! Love your content!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying them.
I couldn't agree more on this.
Yes please! Super interesting!
TronicsFix the xr battery case this chip afaik. Check it out its not too expensive
I purchase a tv recently that wouldn’t power on. I’m ordering a part for it on eBay. Tv repair can be simple from what I’ve seen. Fingers cross the part works!
Steve you are a truly inspiration for the right to repair. I love your channel.
Thank you! Thanks for watching!

Surprising!
Tim xD
every isheep during apple commercial
Me when I repaired my iPhone 6 Plus’s display
But at 3:28 we had a charging screen but I don’t think he saw it
I say you continue to fix everything you can find, it's because of you that I started fixing IPhones and consoles, I studied and learn a bit about and so far I am loving it, thank you for sharing and teaching!
If you ever can do more of these, the videos are great! Thank you for keeping us all entertained during this time!
I'll do as many as I can! Glad these are helping with the entertainment!
Bro most of the time I have no clue what you doing but your videos are addictive. You really good man. Keep up the good videos.
Glad you like them!
Great job on the repair and diagnosis on both! I loved the "toss in" logic board install!
Tronics fix you have definetly the best subscribers ever, i see a lot of help and love coming from them!
I am glad to see stuff like this during this quarantine period its pure gold!!! Love from italy
I’m in my last trimester of Electrical Engineering and I wanted so bad a class that showed exactly this. I would love to pay for a repair/troubleshoot course from this guy. I feel that I didn’t learned enough, even from taking an advance electronic course. Engineering is more focused on “design” rather than repairing and fixing (which I’m more interested in). Keep the great work and explaining things as you do!
remove the chip to see if there's no short, nothing to lose
True, but I didn't want to take it off until I have the part here.
@@Tronicsfix be like me take it out and never find it again lol

The only real use of the airpods... Parts !
But premium parts at this price...
Great channel! I stay up to 1, 2, 3am sometimes watching you fix things and helps us all understand what makes the electronics that we buy work

Dude I love your channel, I’m an electrical engineering student and whilst studying and relaxing I watch your videos. Incredible content and really informative!! Thanks!
I wish i could have all the knowledge in electronics just like you do, you’re awesome!! Love watching your vids. Learned a couple of things already but i hope to learn more. Thanks man !! 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this! Great job! :) (and I hope that chip mentioned in other comments that you “may” have bought works!)

Also thinking of buying some merch. 😎

You are not bad youtuber. You are the only one who brings interesting fix videos for me
Hi Steve 👋
You are a truly inspiration for the people who are interested in repairing.
Can you please do a tour about your setup.
Can you also recommend books for repairing
Superbe video! As always. I don't know if you did this on purpose, but damn the timing with the song with the profile loading and the task bar at 4:30 opening was smooth as F!
Another great video!! Thanks for the continued entertainment and education !
Really looking forward to a follow video on this to see if the chip from the iPhone fixes the issue! Great content!
Fixed it! Well done, great perseverance...!
Brilliant great work Steve. Again, you are awesome.
Man i Hope U Could upload More, Ur Videos are the best
I remember in one of Louis Rossmann’s right to repair testimonies, he says that he buys iPhone charging cases to use for repair.
Just an incredible waste of ressources to have to buy a whole case, just to scavenge a single chip.
Apple should be forced to sell these chips to anyone, wanting to buy them.
It is VERY clear that apple is actively trying to defeat the posibility of repairing their product, to force people to scrap them and buy new products and they should be heavily penalised for it.
It is stupid that i have to sort my garbage into 4 different bins, cars have to meet ever increasing demands for emissions and there is a lot of research on how to minimize the use of materials in all sort of everyday things, but apple is allowed to make their own chargers with their own power connector, and refuse people to buy a $2 chip, to repair their computer, and instead have to throw it away and buy a new one.
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz This is too far good common sense to be understandable for the mean Apple addicted customer....I totally agree with you: Apple should be OBLIGATED to make spare parts available for fixing, otherwise no more business allowed. This is my opinion.
He used to buy them in early 2000, he doesn't anymore because there is no money in phone repair.
You mean you guys don’t throw away your car when it gets a flat tire?
@@paolomonai9511 But I'm sure you anyway have an Apple device sitting at home 😂 That was a joke, but yes, doing this causes even more electronic waste to land up in landfills and a lot of money lost. So much for their "greenest laptop ever".
Great troubleshooting, good job!
It is great to see you working with apple now. Keep it going! and about the 1st Mac, it could be interesting to hear what story it has to tell. How damaged it was!
This is becoming one of the best CZcams channels, specially the comment section, instead of insults, everyone helping
Love your videos! I am new subscriber and I like seeing the love from u liking people comments!
I would love to see you do more mac repairs. It's good for the viewer that won't get bored with the same content and for you to learn a new thing.
It is great to actually see progress in your skills and taking other challenges like these Macbooks. It is entertaining for us and sure the new knowledge fills you up a lot. As I read in a comment, would be awesome to see you going through a Surface and new stuff. Congratulations for figuring out that Macbook! It was damn expensive for a brickwall xD
Not sure if I'll do the Surface but maybe. The price was actually pretty good. Go to eBay and check solds...you'll see what they're going for.
@@Tronicsfix yeah I guess for the Apple environment is a good price. In my mortal average consumer those numbers are ludicrous!
Thanks for another really good video! Love from the UK, stay safe mate!

This might be a heavily asked question but I actually finally decided my career path is going to be in the direction of electrical engineering and I’ve always loved working on electronics .. I was just curious how did you learn so much about motherboards themselves , seems very off setting but I would love to know where I get my feet wet , as far as knowing what components do what or how those components are supposed to perform ! Love the content !
Take an electronic course at a community college. That’s where you learn
Hi bud l know these mac book pro are a nightmare to fix but 8t looks good so far well done 👏
I like that you do other stuff than game consoles too! Challenges are the things that bring you forward ^^
Very good video about fixing those Macbooks Pro!! Maybe you could start a series of fixing them :D
If this video does well I just might have to!
I am often in the minority with these things, but for my money, it's great that you're doing "other things" than game consoles. I don't care what you're repairing, I am interested in the steps and the diagnostics of it. So you do whatever makes you happy man. :)
You are a GOOD CZcamsr !! don't let anybody tell you otherwise !!!
Nice video and I see you can repair almost all and what happened with all the iPhone x with broke touch is hard to fix?
YOU HAVE BROUGHT THAT MACBOOK BACK TO LIFE WITH OUR HELP THIS IS EPIC

I've learned a lot how to calm down my fears on a water damage psVita i almost got damaged cause i dropped it. I still haven't take it apart, just dried it up really good and it worked after like a day. But thanks to your vids i got more information on troubleshooting and i thank you for that Sir.
Your videos are my savior in this time they give me something to watch! Keep it up 👍
Thanks for the comment. That's why I'm making them!
I want to be a technician now because of you. This is interesting stuff
Congratulation! I like Very much your videos!
I have a Late 2008 MacBook Aluminum Unibody and it has a warped lid/screen like you showed in the video. That warping just happens with time. It doesn't effect the performance. Mine is still running like a champ. In fact, I still use it daily and I'm typing and watching your video with it.
props for the attempt for the mobo drop, it gave me a dumb smirk
Great video, as always :)
Shout out to those tips. Absolute legends
I said this earlier in a reply but just wanted to make sure you saw this, the ISL 920 can be found in iPhone XR charging cases. Love the vids keep it up!
