- Rare 1972 Bootleg Top 40 DJs Vol 2 Part 1 of 2 - The World’s Largest Radio Air Check. Released during the Fall of 1972, this unusual radio station Promo DJ album was mailed to radio stations. Billed as “The World’s Largest Air Check”, the album featured (34) different radio stations across the USA. Volume 1 of the project was produced 1971. I have never seen a Volume 3 version.
The project was conceived and produced by Mike Suttle, who was the Promotion Man for the “SSS” record label in Nashville. Volume 1 was on SSS, but this Volume 2 was pressed on the Mega label, best remembered for the Sammi Smith hit “Help Me Make It Through the Night”.
Both albums featured non-stop radio Air Checks on both sides. This Part 1 features the entire Side 1 of the record album with the following radio stations and Disc Jockeys:
WAPE - Jacksonville “Blooper” (I believe this is Larry Dixon)
KRIZ - Phoenix - Shotgun Tom Kelly
WAXC - Rochester - Robert Craig Savage
KUDL - Kansas City - Andy Barber
WOKY - Milwaukee - Michael Lee Scott
KROQ - Los Angeles - Charlie Tuna
WKLO - Louisville - Chuck Brady
KTLK - Denver - Harry Scarborough
WPOP - Hartford - T.J. Lambert
WPGC - Washington D.C. - Harv Moore
KSO - Des Moines - Ron Ross
WTIX - New Orleans - Bob Walker
KONO - San Antonio - Rick Reynolds
WAVZ - New Haven - Joe Hager
KNUS - Dallas - Christopher Hayes
KGBS - Los Angeles - Don Imus
WLOF - Orlando - “The Janitor”
KROL - Ft. Worth - Ron Selden
KGH - Newport News - Jim Conley
KJRB - Spokane - Steve West
A few notables: The WKLO - Chuck Brady air check on the original album is over-driven and distorted. I was able to remove some of the distortion on the album and also added another great Chuck Brady air check that was not on the original album. Right before “The Chucker” is Charlie Tuna from the short-lived KROQ AM in Los Angeles and also listen for some early Don Imus in L.A.
“Rod Wolfe Oldies Radio DJ Channel” on CZcams: My radio broadcast career began 1966. The Sunday Night Hall of Fame Show was broadcast from 1980 to 1992 on WAEB - AM 790 and WKAP - AM 1320. My show returned between 1999 and August 2001 on WODE “Oldies 99.9”, with all three stations serving the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA area known as “The Lehigh Valley”. - Hudba
