  • Well we have had some good weather, be it very briefly so no excuses, the FW190 had to fly. As you'll see she flew perfectly, but due to the cold the battery didn't perform and I realised too late and stalled just as I was deciding I needed to land.
A bit of damage but again nothing that can't be fixed when you're determined enough.
She will fly again and fly for longer!
Thanks for watching and all of your support.

Very British way of handling an unfortunate situation. Like your build quality. Cheers!

The title was scary but she did fly well!
That fix was for sure no easy task. Getting everything lined up perfectly is not easy.
It somehow looks good with all the patches on as it does show a bit of its history.
Thank you for sharing and looking forward to a great landing!

I admire the coolness under fire as you realize it's about the auger-in...I've crashed every plane I've built without near the equanimity.

Thank you, regrettably a risk with this hobby that I’ve become all too familiar. I probably spend more time repairing than flying 🙄😊

Sad to see the crash. But, I like the idea of Me163 take off :-))

Inspired by your efforts and the sadness of a crash, I went ahead and tried to a new power configuration for Guillow's models. I ordered Sunnysky X2204 1480kV V2 motors, and used a 7x3.5x3 FPV prop from Hqprop with a 2 cell Lipo at 7.4V. I bench tested the combo on my static thrust tester. At 6700 rpm, I get about 227 grf of static thrust at 4.3A of current, which is plenty of power for the models you fly. I also applied 11.1V to the same combo, and obtained 234 grf of static thrust with the same prop at 3.5A, which is actually not much different from the 2 cell configuration. BUT, what I saved in the process was the weight of a single Lipo cell. The utmost important thing in these models is to reduce the wing loading at all costs! With heavy wing loading you need to fly fast, and in case of a problem (like the battery in your case) the plane cannot glide. You need to have a cruising speed about twice as much as the stall speed which is approximately 4.7*Sqrt of wing loading. I also found tinniest 250mAH batteries from MotionRC sold here in the US for $5. This battery (in theory) should give you over 3 minutes of flight time. There is a 350mAH option from the same manufacturer with the weight increase, but gives you about 5 minutes. You need to experiment this system with 2S batteries rather than 3S IMHO. Happy holidays :-))

Thank you for the information. Out of interest, I have just ordered a couple of 650mah 2s batteries to see how they work with the current setup. Size is slightly less but weight saving is 20 grammes on my current batteries used so will be interesting to see if it works or not.

@@srknight307 It was heartbreaking to see the crash of a beautiful ship. I am glad you were able to repair her. The recipe I sent works, at least on the sims. She should be able to glide even if there is no power. Good luck and happy landings :-))
