  • This video is intended for those who use Car Radiator Fans for solar shed ventilation. Sometimes you need to have the fan push air versus pulling it, or due to mounting constraints. A car radiator fan's rotation be reversed to blow air in the opposite direction but it's a little more involved than swapping the wires. You actually have to flip the blade over because it's not efficient otherwise. This is called puller versus pusher configuration. In this video I will show and explain how to reverse the air flow of a typical 12v 24v car radiator fan using simple hand tools.
    Car radiator fans are useful for a variety of ventilation tasks including cooling down your shed with solar power. I have produced a DIY video guide showing my solar shed ventilation projects, please check the list below. Thanks for watching!

    Are you going to connect to a speed controller switch or use a Thermostat Switch Circuit "button" to turn on the fan at say 86 F and off at a lower temperature? Maybe just an on/off switch?

      @MrRoboto2338 In one shed there is a PWM speed controller which is very handy. The other fan in that shed is 12v brushless with an adjustable DC converter. Both work pretty good. The 24v fan in a smaller shed just runs sun up to sun down. Might look into a thermostat in the future, ideally a mechanical DC one. Right now the fans are blasting all day, it is super hot

      I use a small button type switch for an RV fridge "computer style" fans when that small space reaches a temperature of 100 F. They have commercially available options, but prefer the fun of making my own.

      @MrRoboto2338 I hear ya there, thumbs for DIY

    Could this power vent my attic in the summer? Temperature switch and a solar panel on top of the attic vent and maybe a battery for the extra power generated.

      @thorhammer6040 Yes, a car radiator fan can vent an attic. I'd suggest running the fan at 8-10v max so it doesn't get so hot and wear out as fast. Can also run without a battery if you want to, straight off the solar panel

    Would it not just be easier to turn the entire fan around, mount it backwards like you would in a PC case?

      @solarpoweredge  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @Allexz, no radiator fans are generally mounted on the flat side against the radiator or opening. Reversing them from puller to pusher is a very common task. So this knowledge applies to both sheds and cars/trucks in general.
      In both my shed, the fans had to be mounted round side facing out or they don't fit. Not only that, there is no protection from the powerful fan blades if I somehow mounted it the other way around.
