Dude, as a long time no-life youtube watcher I can see the pattern here. Almost always when someone gets successful on youtube they tend to change up their content a little and make more of what they really want to make. That content is usually better than the content they started with (like in this case), but the long time fans has an emotional attachment to the old content, and you can't argue with logic against nostalgia. The truth is that the they're not even looking for stuff like the old content, they're looking for the feeling they got back then when they took their bike home from school, played some halo and watched penguinz0's new video and life was good and easy with close to no responsibilities. Sadly they can't get that feeling back, but instead of realizing that, they want to believe that the only thing they have to do is get their favorite youtuber to make the same videos they did in the good old days. You know best what content is best for this channel, and I love the new series like "building shit with my dad" and the livestream recaps of the slapping tournament videos, billy the exterminator and weird fetishes etc and I know a lot of other people love the new content too, so keep it up and make whatever you want.
Muselk made good TF2 content and then moved to super clickbaity cringe fortnite videos... Muselk fans have a reason to be upset. Its hard to think that some people think that cr1tikal makes bad content now... Its better than ever.
@@ezrac704 i agree with you on that example. i had no problem with him switching from tf2 to overwatch, it was a little sad at first but i enjoyed the overwatch vids just as much and you could tell that he enjoyed making them. the beginning of his fortnite content was fine aswell, just him trying memey strats with his friends and having a good time. at one point though he decided that he wanted to make money instead of producing quality content, so he started making videos for kids. i have no problem with that, it's his job and if he sees it as a good business oportunity then good for him. it is sad that he sort of abandoned his old viewers though, and even though he doesn't "owe" them anything it's understandable that they will complain and be upset.

I think what made the old humor work for me was his voice being so deadpan. I do enjoy the new stuff I just think Charlie is underestimating his skills with joke delivery.

Charlie could upload a ten minute video of him just blankly looking at the camera, with nothing else on screen or any added audio, as well as the audio being fuzzy and unedited and I'd probably still find it entertaining. There's just something about Charlie where,, once you've known him for a while, he's just a fucking beacon of entertainment. The people crying about his content changing either never understood the content or were genuinely here for the game play alone. Also if you see this, Charlie, make that video happen ;)
That's literally the whole point of gameplay channels. Maybe a few people just want to see the game itself but most people will prefer to watch someone in particular play the game so they can see that person's reaction to the game.
that's because in essence, most forms or entertainment and joke-telling are reaction based. it's very difficult to create content out of thin air without reacting or interacting with something else. there are some that do it, like animation channels, but every single gaming channel, comedy channel and commentary channel are ALL forms of reaction.
Any gaming channel that actually talks about the game as there playing it is reacting to the game and commenting on it same with reviews news and almost anything else the only thing I can think of is like story time CZcamsrs that talk about personal experiences because that isn’t reacting to someone else or something else it’s talking about your own experiences.
Then just watch his old videos, are you really trying to flex how long you have watched him? People change and and I think his channel changed for the better. I remember when people wondered how he looks, now he looks very comfortable in front of a camera.
I prefer his old videos ngl. But there are like 10 years worth of them. Just YT "penguinz0 gameplay and commentary" and you'll see well over 100 videos of that type. Charlie's happiness and enjoyment of what he does is what's important here. And I, for one, am glad he's making content he wants to make.
Charlie and I are the same age. I grew up watching his videos, and he grew up making them. I've always been a fan of his content, and I think it's because as he is maturing, so too am I, and so he continues to make content relevant to me. I don't watch his old videos. They no longer appeal to me. They were funny as a kid, as was Robot Chicken and similar shows, but his newer content still resonates. It's because he doesn't stay in a rut. Creators must evolve their content as they evolve themselves, otherwise burnout and unhappiness necessarily follow. I appreciate Charlie and creators like him because they are real people who are honest and true to themselves. I may not be a fan of his older stuff anymore, and I may not continue to be a fan in the future as we both change as people, but what is important is that he continues to be genuine. As long as he does so, no matter if I enjoy his content or not, he will always have my respect.

Not saying this content is bad or whatever, but the difference between the gameplay and the "react" era is that in the gameplay videos the control was in your hands and you controlled what you reacted to. And in this format you're an outside person looking in on a premade thing like a video or whatnot.
Yea... I don't watch his twitch dumps. Something feels different about them, kinda samey but also kinda cheap whereas before the way he cut the videos, even if it was still low effort, I enjoyed it more. There was something pure about it. Sucks that he's not doing those anymore but I also don't want it to be forced either. Either keep watching or move on I guess. I love the podcasts, so that still keeps me coming and the cheesy commercial voiceovers.

I think Charlie should make whatever he wants - but IMO there's something different about gameplay react, because you can control the timing, and if you find something funny, you can choose to spend more time on it and see if you can get whatever you're seeing to one-up itself.

I feel like Charlie's content has aged like a fine wine. I remember laughing so hard that my sides hurt the first time I watched "The Real Edge of Glory", and I binge watched all his old video game tests. Nowadays he makes actual content and streams everyday at Twitch.tv/MoistCr1tikal, which is different but still just as enjoyable. I still wouldn't mind another couple additions to the 'Real Series' every so often tho

I personally like most of your videos regardless, but I can see why people might be upset. Games are interactive, so you're not *just* reacting to them, you're also affecting the outcome. It feels like you're actually doing something, as opposed to a TV show where you just sit there and have no impact on what's going on. Watching you react to a game is waaaay more interesting than seeing you react to a video, and it feels like you've been doing far more TV shows lately, whereas you used to do exclusively games.
Charlie, you are the only youtuber I've watched that has always entertained me no matter what you chose to do. Yes, making your videos from twitch is noticeably different from what you used to do, but that doesn't make it any less fun. Personally, my favorite videos of yours are the ones very similar to what you do now, like the Mcdonalds Assassin and the Zoo Elephant. What you do now can be even funnier since you get the people in chat involved to craft better jokes.
I have to be honest, you're probably the best youtuber atm imo, its fun to watch and in watching you watch random series and videos its both interesting and fresh while complemented by your jokes and comfort. I love everything you do and have been here for over 6 years love ya💗
i got hooked on this channel back in the day because of charlie's reactions, i remember the vid, it was "how to find the secret weapons in new vegas", and some of the comments he made when things didnt work out properly were hilarious, and obviously off the cuff too. and since then i've loved every time the channel does something new. the old shit is funny but the new and fresh content is very welcome and part of why i keep watching this channel consistently for years i'm sure. i understand why there would be haters, haters are everywhere even for extremely popular things, more specifically to this video and these new content haters, we all have our shit we wish was back like the good old days and a lot of channels that have been around for ages get that, in some ways its a positive because it means the old shit on the channel was really good. also note to charlie: while i was typing this you just said you were going to stop saying spork holding shit like "beat my dick with nitroglycerin", PLEASE keep some of that shit in there. it might not be funny in real life but it's funny as hell in the context of youtube videos. anyway keep up the good work thanks for reading my essay. Those old videos of yours is what kinda got your channel to blow up over time. Even more so with your vids from the past 2 years. Still love going back and watching them, regardless of how much effort was put into them. I will be honest tho, i feel like more variety of content on this channel would be good instead of just twitch highlights. But in the end tho, doing what you feel like doing is of upmost importance

I’ve been subscribed to Charlie ever since his Fallout New Vegas guides all those years ago, and have to say this renaissance of content of these past few years (podcast, face reveal, fun crazy irl videos, etc) show a crazy amount of growth in Charlie as a person, and I really don’t know why someone would prefer the old cookie cutter content over what’s being made right now. We are now seeing who Charlie really is, his creativity, his personality, everything and it’s awesome!

Charlie's happiness and enjoyment of what he does is what's important here. And I, for one, am glad he's making content he wants to make.
Nope, he has about a months worth of videos. I know, I watched probably around 95% of them. I’m maybe missing a few because I’ve watched so many.
Charlie and I are the same age. I grew up watching his videos, and he grew up making them. I've always been a fan of his content, and I think it's because as he is maturing, so too am I, and so he continues to make content relevant to me. I don't watch his old videos. They no longer appeal to me. They were funny as a kid, as was Robot Chicken and similar shows, but his newer content still resonates. It's because he doesn't stay in a rut. Creators must evolve their content as they evolve themselves, otherwise burnout and unhappiness necessarily follow.
I appreciate Charlie and creators like him because they are real people who are honest and true to themselves.
I may not be a fan of his older stuff anymore, and I may not continue to be a fan in the future as we both change as people, but what is important is that he continues to be genuine. As long as he does so, no matter if I enjoy his content or not, he will always have my respect.

I remember laughing so hard that my sides hurt the first time I watched "The Real Edge of Glory", and I binge watched all his old video game tests. I personally like most of your videos regardless, but I can see why people might be upset. Games are interactive, so you're not *just* reacting to them, you're also affecting the outcome. It feels like you're actually doing something, as opposed to a TV show where you just sit there and have no impact on what's going on. Watching you react to a game is waaaay more interesting than seeing you react to a video, and it feels like you've been doing far more TV shows lately, whereas you used to do exclusively games.

Charlie, you are the only youtuber I've watched that has always entertained me no matter what you chose to do. Yes, making your videos from twitch is noticeably different from what you used to do, but that doesn't make it any less fun.

i got hooked on this channel back in the day because of charlie's reactions, i remember the vid, it was "how to find the secret weapons in new vegas", and some of the comments he made when things didnt work out properly were hilarious, and obviously off the cuff too. and since then i've loved every time the channel does something new. the old shit is funny but the new and fresh content is very welcome and part of why i keep watching this channel consistently for years i'm sure.
i understand why there would be haters, haters are everywhere even for extremely popular things, more specifically to this video and these new content haters, we all have our shit we wish was back like the good old days and a lot of channels that have been around for ages get that, in some ways its a positive because it means the old shit on the channel was really good.

You’re totally right and I hadn’t thought about it in that lens, thanks for this video, it was very well thought out and you brought a new perspective into my mind, whether it was easy to do and whether you just shit it out in 10 mins or you had some sort of script/stuff you wanted to talk about prepared, it is equally appreciated.
Babies start out their lives just reacting to what is around them and teens and adults basically just react to what other people say in conversations when they give their opinions on what the other person said, I don’t get why “reacting” as an action should get that kind of evil, lazy connotation it does on CZcams just because some people have less personality than a brick.

Those old videos of yours is what kinda got your channel to blow up over time. Even more so with your vids from the past 2 years. Still love going back and watching them, regardless of how much effort was put into them. I will be honest tho, i feel like more variety of content on this channel would be good instead of just twitch highlights. But in the end tho, doing what you feel like doing is of upmost importance
people don't realize the content roller coaster this channel has been through in it's history. if anyone really cared they would just be content that Charlie finally seems to be happy with himself and his style of content. keep having fucking fun, man. it's all we've ever wanted throughout the years of watching
I’ve been subscribed to Charlie ever since his Fallout New Vegas guides all those years ago, and have to say this renaissance of content of these past few years (podcast, face reveal, fun crazy irl videos, etc) show a crazy amount of growth in Charlie as a person, and I really don’t know why someone would prefer the old cookie cutter content over what’s being made right now. We are now seeing who Charlie really is, his creativity, his personality, everything and it’s awesome!
