rhpepper1 ....tired of rip off and red..? Tape looters ..eh..?
You're a real inspiration Michael. I fell into leftover ebikes and for the last 3 months all my time has been learning all I could about battery building cause the most recent acquisition had burned 3 battery packs and a charger in less than 50 miles of use. Just put 10 miles on the new pack built from batteries salvaged. So far, so good. I'll be looking for all your videos.....
Great stuff, Micah! I'll definitely check that sale out. My 1st conversion comes ALIVE today and I am so stoked. Your channel has been a Godsend because INFO is so critical and you sharing your experience is invaluable my friend. Thanks again and please keep up the good work.

This is great that you share some of your source vendors, Micah. It helps add some credibility to suppliers unknown to the noob who is taking a gamble by just blind trust that the sources they choose are honest and fair. Thank you.

Yeaahhhh super welcome to share your solar panel projects here mate!!! People will love to learn new things and yes they're totally related! We have been charging our eBikes at work with a mobile solar panel... so good it really makes sense!! =]Solar panel POWEEEEEERRR hahaha
What would you like to know about solar power ? We've been off grid for close to 10 years now, and are finally up to using around 20kW peak worth of panels, several MPPT charge controllers, and most recently Nickle Iron( Edison style ) cells. We put about 200A into the batteries at 32v most days( mid day ). Yeah I know . . . not the 20kW you'd expect ;) That's the way solar works.
Do the math on what you think you need. Multiply by 3, and then you *may* be starting to get close to what you really need ;)
Making a portable ebike charging system from solar, is what I'd consider a waste of time. If stationary, yes, that would work fine. Problem is, for a pack that's say 52v and 10ah. For a C5 charge rate( 5 hour complete charge ), we're talking you're going to have to push ~104w. For a portable solar charging system, that's not going to be very practical to carry around. Of course, that's assuming the batteries are completely empty. C10 could be fairly practical, but at 10 hours, you're probably at best going to just be doing minor battery charging maintenance. Maybe something slightly better than brake regen.
Thanks for the support and encouragement, Bruno! I wish everyone was as jazzed as you are!
Bruno is AWWESSSOMMMMMEEEE POOOOOWWWWWWWWWEEEEERRRRRRR!!
Lol
Dont you mean Bruno "has the power" (He-man reference ) lol
I do not have as much experince as you when it comes to solar power but ive done quiet a few months research and had a little play and building my own system because since i was a kid i have always wanted to generate my own eletric.
Down side being a kid not got the money and no internet back in those days.
I agree with you about about what you say about portable charging and 2 years ago there was a young lady (can not remember name) cycled across America cover just over 3200 miles and she had a trailer with solar panles on it which charged the bike as she cycled on here eletric bike.
The battery never got below 60% charge and she did it make people aware of mental health and a few other things basically charity type work.
No point me doing solar for eletric bike as would have to go to another country to make it worth its while.
Great Video. Hoping to get the book.
Great information! Thanks

Hey there! Thanks for all of the helpful information here. This is one of the best videos that I've seen from your channel, well done! I was wondering if you would be interested in making a video talking about the differences between hub drive and mid drive motors and which you prefer? Seems to me from this video that you are a mid-drive guy, but I'm curious of the pros and cons.
Nice compilation of deals!

I am learning a lot from you. Thanks for selflessly sharing your knowledge, Micah. For more people to benefit from the knowledge, I suggested to our library (The Calgary Public Library) to purchase your 3 books namely DIY Lithium Batteries, The Ultimate DIY Ebike Guide and DIY Solar Power. They have approved of the purchase. DIY Solar Power is now available in the library and am eagerly waiting for the other 2 books.
Glad I found your channel. I have a e Bike and the battery has died after a yr old and because I bought the bike used they are not covering it under the two year warranty. So hopefully can find a second battery and your channel can help educate me.
Also very interested in solar power. This is the first video of yours I have watched but sure will be streaming more to my smart tv.
loved ure show!
Hey Buddy,
I just wanted to say thank you for the videos you create on youtube! I’ve been insanely inspired the last few weeks to create some electric personal vehicles. I used to be a Mechanical Engineer back in the day and I’ve all but forgotten everything I once learned since becoming a non-technical business owner for the last 10 years… All of this electric personal vehicle stuff has by insides buzzing haha. I’m buying a bike today to start with an e-bicycle to learn the ropes. I’ve ridden street superbikes all my life so after I learn a bit, I want to move into motorcycles with it. For the motorcycle version, would you recommend the mid motor with a chain or a hub motor, chain-less. I’ve been thinking hub motor, but I’m a newbie so I would love to hear your opinion.
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for passing along what you have via youtube. You put a great practical side to a somewhat complicated topic which is a gift!
Hi Micah.... DIY Lithuim Batteries has been a source of inspiration for building batt packs. Very informative. Very nice read! would like to know whether spot welding is better than soldering?
Thanks for all your videos. Do you have current LG batteries 18650 to make ebike batteries. I would like to build two, two wheel bikes like you built.
I'd love a copy of the DIY E-Bike book!
just bought your book, really impressed, but a few more in dedth diagrams would be handy
