    eventho some people may argue about the amount of safety-first mentions and procedures you are following to build this kit, I really appreciate you take your responsibility on making this educational content as heavy as it should be regarding safe and preventive manipulation of lithium batteries.
    we don't know who will be the next enthusiast going from zero to full builds based only on their YT and internet acquired knowledge, and it's important to remark as many times as possible the amount of different ways things could go unexpectedly bad with this.
    pretty nice and good quality content btw, thank you.

  • @Simon_Rafferty
    @Simon_Rafferty Před 6 měsíci +10

    Amazing! I hate spot welding cells together - not because it's bad, or doesn't work, but because if a cell dies, it's virtually impossible to replace. This is a much more 'environmentally friendly' solution. Also means I can easily reconfigure the pack if I need for a new build.
    I tend to use thick leather welding gauntlets to cover the ends of the pack when I'm working on it. They don't slip or fall off like foam sheets can.

    • @tonypaddler
      @tonypaddler Před 3 měsíci +1

      Indeed Simon, that is also the reason why I like this idea for a kit, easily replacing a bad cell. Built correctly, the batteries will keep a good connection, even over bumpy ground.

    Thanks for the video info. Looks 'easy' enough and I'm sure much less expensive than ordering a new battery pack from the manufacturer. One piece of advice I might suggest. When tightening down the buss bars, follow a 'Z pattern'. Bottom Left-Middle Right-Top Left, then follow with Top Right-Middle Left-Bottom Right. This should ensure 'even' pressure across every contact. Much like changing a car tire, skipping over every other stud, just snugly, then repeat the pattern to tighten up.

    I hope the V4.0 kits hold up better than the V2.1 kits. I bought 2 of the V2.1 for a 52V pack. After building the pack it sat on a shelf in my shop, which stays at a constant 72 degrees, for 6 months while building my bike. I wanted to know if you could do a video on actual Ebike battery performance. People in general don't know that Ll batteries are not linear in their discharge rates. I was at 10% Saturday and 0% in about 8 blocks later. I too was supprised! I was not expecting to walk 5 blocks to my destination! 😱
    It took me an additional 15 minutes⏰ to my expected 25 minute trip! 😵

    • @kennmossman8701
      @kennmossman8701 Před rokem +4

      'no' battery is linear in their discharge but Li batteries are more linear than those over most of their discharge. It might be more your charge indicator being off or too simplistic

    • @FreeOfFantasy
      @FreeOfFantasy Před rokem

      The problem isn't really that the performance of batteries isn't linear, it's that estimating the remaining charge state is hard. The discharge curve of Li batteries is very flat, there is nearly no change between 80 and 30% nominal capacity and often enough and often enough for battery protection reasons they don't get discharged below ~10%. However the voltage is also current dependent, so what looked like 10% without load will have collapsed to nearly protection circuit limited point once load is applied.

      These are only more cost effective if you’re building a small number of batteries. Depending on the size of the battery, you could break even on a spot welder after 2-3 packs. But cost isn’t the main advantage. It’s the modularity and repair. You can’t (easily) disassemble a spot welded pack or replace one bad cell.
