Starcraft vs. Forbidden Stars- which one is for you? comparison

In this video I will try and do a comparison between two titans in the space theme board games: Starcraft the board game and its younger brother Forbidden Stars.
Both of them are considered to be grail games, both of them are out of print, both of them by FFG, both of them have the same main system of order tokens, but I will choose only one of them..

I’ve had Starcraft the Board Game since day 1 back in ‘07. Same with the Brood War expansion in ‘08. Played them and love them. Won’t ever play without Brood War, in fact. It’s too bad Brood War is going for more than Starcraft and Forbidden Stars combined and is probably one of the most valuable expansions ever.
I just picked up Forbidden Stars for dirt cheap, but haven’t had a chance to play it yet. I look forward to playing it, but doubt it’ll replace Starcraft.

I'd be happy to know what did you think of Forbidden Stars after you've played it and I'm sure you'll learn it in no time since it is based on Starcraft with almost everything.
The fact that all of these games are OOP is sad and make prices go sky high like you've said. I have the Brood War expansion only in French, but I'll try to get it in English at some point.

And that was Starcraft without Brood War. With Brood War, the game becomes way better with more starting strategies (3 per faction), more units, more technology, more planets, more options.
If I remember correctly, there was a second printing of the rulebook from the core box and the second rulebook was a bit better at explainign rules. And Brood War updated some rules and cards from the core game.
Just sad how crazy second had market prices are for that great game + expansion.

I just felt bad comparing between SC and FS if I add Brood War..
I paid for my copy of SC 150€ and another 80 for the expansion (in French).

I'm a big fan of Starcraft the Board game. I haven't played Forbidden Stars because of the dice. But it seems, like in a lot of cases, that some other aspect is even more lucky than the dice themselves.

I not hate dice, but I don't like double luck, draw card is luck and then roll dice is luck....

Haven’t checked the video yet but starcraft by far. If StarCraft is a 10 forbidden stars is an 8 for me. Forbidden is great don’t get me wrong, it’s better for new players, max 8 rounds, 4 different factions (with lots of fan made available). And StarCraft you pretty much need to have played the video game to make it better than FS. I played around 200 games of StarCraft and maybe 20 of forbidden stars. Map placement is insanely punishing in FS which is the main reason why I play less often.

How much of an advantage do you think SC has over FS thanks to the expansion?
@@ezbgamesmore units/techs. Can play up to 6 players instead of 4. No dices. Mirror match is possible,different game modes (3 planets each instead of 2). Some premade scenarios.
