    The opening joke about Forbidden Island/Forbidden Desert absolutely killed me. I had to restart the video after I finally caught my breath.

    Cody, as always, an excellent & enjoyable review. Defiantly on my "to buy" list. As I love running demo's at local conventions this will be a "2-fer me" purchase. More is always better, unless it's one of those late nights when you suddenly realize, after 27 beers, you've had nothing to eat all day. (But at that point, who cares!) Happy gaming!!

      Please comment if I have got the following vibe correctly, to help decide if I want to buy it (it's expensive!):
      It seems to combine the best features of recent games, BUT strengthens their weaknesses:
      - Warrior knights and Runewars (order cards but adds Dice!)
      - Cyclades (need chain to move troops, but not as restrictive)
      - Asymmetric factions (but not TOO game-breakingly different)
      - dice combat mitigated with 3 cards (and mindgames!)
      - almost reminds me of cosmic encounter also (but with dice! yeah!)
      - Programmed actions (like Mission red planet) with lots of screwage (real word?)!
      - Variable strategy
      - Some deckbuilding (based on your strategy)
      - High replayability
      - Memorable and fun games!
      - Heard it plays well with 2-3 players, in under 3 hours?
      Many thanks for your stellar work! Sal

      +Salman Qaisar I haven't played all the games you mentioned, but generally those observations are correct from what I can tell. A four player game can be 4+ hours, but 2-3 is about 2-3 hours. Very fun game.

      Thanks for prompt reply, bub!
      - the major downside seems to be the downtime for noncombat players - does it get less after few games?
      - if not, would a timer help?
      - it almost seems begging to add an ally mechanism like cosmic encounter ( come on FFG!)
      btw I almost stooped watching when u announced it was a coop! hahaha

    I played my first game of FS lasting night. A slightly inebriated Frenchman beat me in a two player intro game. It was alot of fun and I think it will be one of the games I push for to hit the table top. It helps to have a general plan of attack going forward as 8 rounds does take a long time to play but, oddly enough, doesn't leave much time to doddle about. Also the limited model counts makes some interesting army compositions. ~Dusty

      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  Před 9 lety

      Oljana Vaidych Indeed. With the exception of other people's combat in 3-4 player games, it keeps you involved throughout.

      The Discriminating Gamer expansions could negate the down time during combat in larger games. Temporary alliances with other players to aid in battle could be interesting.

    My favorite game of 2015. I totally agree with combat being too much of a slog. It should've been simplified / streamlined, imo. I think they were trying to squeeze more value out of the combat cards / deck idea. If you took the somewhat obtuse combat from this game and made a baby with the too light combat from Star Wars Rebellion, I would really like to play that game.

    I played this last night for the first time (none of us had played before). 5 stars.
    Also, just wanted to add that, in a 4 player game I didn't notice the downtime at all.

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  Před 9 lety +1

      Rowbags The Destroyer Yeah- in some games the downtime is more noticeable than in others. I think a lot of it depends on players' AP.

      The Discriminating Gamer my only real gripe is that the game can be quite unforgiving, particularly early. One of the players in our game left his only factory open and lost it in turn two. He was practically a bystander from then on.

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  Před 9 lety

      Curtis Chapman All of the games I've played thus far have been four player. I've heard its a really good two player, though. Tom Vasel at the Dice Tower did a two player play through a couple of weeks ago. If I hit it again as a two player sometime soon I'll let you know.

    • @dustbustus27
      @dustbustus27 Před 8 lety

      I have played two player almost a half a dozen times now. Its fun but I compare it (2P) to a knife fight in a telephone booth. Quick and deadly. Not alot of upgrading combat cards more of amassing what troops you can while making desperate plays for the two objectives. I prefer 3-4 players but I don't turn down forbidden stars at any player count so color me bias.
