    They should have just released a "Rejects" Kill Team. I would have liked that more than this minimum effort board game.

    Thanks for doing this, I'd have loved to pick this up, but the asking price of €85 is far too high for a modern board game, especially one that can not be played straight out of the box.

      @CanYouRollaCrit indeed, such a shame GW didn't just go with a fully fleshed out game with unique models and up the asking price. Would have felt more of a justifiable purchase.
      Shame as I really like the hex based games GW have made so far.

    • @JedrekVRoscoe
      @JedrekVRoscoe Před 3 měsíci +2

      They should have given it the Underworlds treatment of snap-fit models that are unique, custom/fancier dice, equivalent game boards (I’ve heard these are thinner), a sturdy game box, and at most a $75 USD price tag, not $100. This really seems minimal effort. Shame, because I really love these more board game style, lighter rules, quicker game play directions GW is trending toward.

  • @thejomah

    It would have been nice if we had rules to add the rejects as ancillary support for inquisitors. That both teams can be used in kt proper

  • @andrewnewell1142
    @andrewnewell1142 Před 3 měsíci +6

    Looks like a solid game! $180 is incredibly steep for a board game, but it may be a better value argument for the fact you have 20 models in the box and enough to have a Killteam after. Still, the only comparable game I can think of price-wise is Frosthaven/Gloomhaven, which has about as many minis but a couple pounds of cardboard and just over 100 scenarios to play through in its campaign.
    E: if they have a second printing I’ll hope for the enemy models being replaced with standees to bring the cost down a little
    E2: looks like it’s $110 instead of 180 which is more reasonable but still steep. I’d want a bit more game and more enemy variety for that price

  • @fumarc4501
    @fumarc4501 Před 2 měsíci +2

    I’ve a soft spot for gw bookshelf games. Self contained, short, and easy to teach my friends quickly enough. Price is high, but I like your idea of a boss model. Got a chaos ogryn myself, but a chaos spawn or daemon host would be epic!

  • @havelock1982
    @havelock1982 Před 3 měsíci +3

    Thank you for the review, I agree with the realse looking a little cobbled together. But the shown game mechanics are looking like a nice blend of Kill Team, Warhammer Quest and Warhammer Underrwold mechanics, which should provide a reasonable fast and exciting game. Bit miffed about the minis all evading being useful for other game modes. Poxwalkers illegal unit size for Kill Team and 40k, Blooded "half" team and so on, the Zealot not being useable for Novitiates (wrong base size) and being the least useful for Sisters in 40k just makes this release less exciting.

  • @earnestwanderer2471
    @earnestwanderer2471 Před 3 měsíci +2

    Watched a couple of videos covering this. It actually looks like a pretty decent game. That said, it’s on the pricey side for sure. $75-80 would be more reasonable. If you actually want the game, it’s probably good that the minis aren’t new sculpts. If they were new designs, the game would have sold out in minutes.

    So the ruleset sounds a bit easier then Kill Team. Thinking of getting this for my son’s 10th birthday, right now I feel the regular Kill Team rules are a bit much but maybe this will be better.

  • @nickrafuse984
    @nickrafuse984 Před 3 měsíci +4

    I think the price is a big stopped for me too. $130 here in Canada. That's within spitting distance of a combat patrol. And while I get the intended audience is quite different, I was hoping this would be fun to pick up and play with my 10yo son. At this price, I'm not sure I can. As many have said, with customized heroes I'd be much more inclined. The video game encourages customization of your hero, and seeing that reflected on the tabletop also would have been great. Definitely some misses here.
    That said... hearing some praise for the rules and gameplay is great. I was really worried this would be a problem. Here's hoping I can get a box at a good discount? Maybe this will be the first GW thing to not sell out on launch day, that would be nice for a change.
    Legit follow-up questions though...
    1 - If one wanted to make a Blooded kill team with this, could any of the heroes easily be proxied as a chaos ogryn and commisar? I suspect yes?
    2 - If I wanted a more customized group of heroes, any suggestions on what to use?

    • @CanYouRollaCrit
      @CanYouRollaCrit  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Yeah price is not good
      1) You could Chaos-ify the ogryn and likely the zealot
      2) I'd look to Necromunda models

  • @milliman4

    They should have added the Kommissar and the Plague Ogryn too, they'd make good bosses. I kitbashed the Ogryn with a few spare bits to look less vanilla, and he fits in much better. I'd have expected more effort in the miniatures, especially for a price this high (85€), but the rules seem really really fun!

  • @Goodenough-
    @Goodenough- Před 3 měsíci +3

    For $110 US, I'd rather get the kill team starter set. This is a cool idea, but price hikes and the models being reused for a 3rd time (blackstone, combat arena, and now here) makes it less of a value and not even close to $110. This is all a shame because I really wanted to play a coop version of kill team, and hoped this was a mini (more streamlined) version of Ashes of Faith, since that release went sooo poorly. Also odd they didn't release this through Target (in US) because that's their new board game partner (Space marine and Warhammer heroes Kill team).

    • @shinkiro403
      @shinkiro403 Před 3 měsíci

      You sure are right overall, especially about reusing models (the flamer cultist from the now discontined cultist warband now being re-released as a single character at more than what the 8-mini box costed is in particular outrageously infuriating); that said, from the perspective of a bighammer Guards and/or Chaos player (the former more than the latter ofc) this may be worth it: the ogryn can be fielded as a Bodyguard (a brute/slab shields shouldn't be hard to proxy in case you want it), which is good if you don't want/need to buy a very expensive box of three; the psyker has had various discounted releases but this is the only one currently and as a character is rather good; the kasrkin can be a proxy for a castellan with boltgun (same base size iirc); the zealot/missionary is meh ofc; poxwalkers are near useless as there's a whole lot online, especially these EtB ones, but the Blooded are functionally a full kill team without the ogryn and enforcer many still don't use anyway (and the four traitor guardsmen you'd take instead can be either easily proxied or even taken from among the 14 generic ones that come from the BSF box). So all in all, I'd say it's not close to the worst value that could come from GW, thought it was worth elaborating on this

  • @Modge17

    At first I was annoyed at the lack of unique minis but as others have already said it’s a gateway game to Kill Team much like Fire Team was so if there was unique minis then the scalpers would be all over it! Personally I’m looking forward to receiving my copy and converting the minis into the ‘Darktide 4’

My son is 7, and we have absolutely loved playing the Space Marine Labyrinth board game together, but after a few goes we got burned out. I am a massive KT fan and player already, and I think this could be a fun one for me, him and the missus to all do together. I already have a Blooded KT painted, but I really hope it could be some good family time!

    I am mainly into the lore (I collected 300+ Black Library books in the last 5 years, mainly 40k but some Warhammer Fantasy as well).
    I am into video-games (1000+ hours in Vermintide 1/2 and Darktide combined + many other Warhammer video games and not only of course).
    I am NOT into Warhammer wargaming tabletop, due to high complexity, extreme dice chucking, time and money requirements and painting requirements which is something I just can't and don't want to do.
    However I like board games and I buy and play some. For Warhammer I have some board games including the 3 'Space Marine Adventures' games and the 'Warhammer Quest: Lost Relics' (and I play 'Blackstone Fortress' digitaly at Tabletop Simulator).
    Also I am mainly solo board gamer. So this Darktide Miniature Game is perfect for me. I completely realize it's a ultra-light and very simplistic, so in essence it's a butchered version of the real thing. But since it can be played just solo (with the "A.I." behavior) and it doesn't really need to be painted (I have all the abovementioned Warhammer board games unpainted and it works okay) it's a good little way to emulate a Kill Team experience despite being just a shadow of the real deal. So I am happy of this product (pre-ordered already).
    Its target audience is us casuals and not you seasoned veterans whatsoever. And the main idea of GW is to try and pull us into the real deal.
    Thanks for the video.

    Ridiculous asking price for a barebones game. Looks about the same depth as the Barnes and Noble boxed games (that are usually around $30 - $40 mind you). For the price you can get much better games if you are into board games, with better design, components and depth. Compared to Blackstone Fortress this is an insult. I cannot believe they would charge this much for recycled minis, even if they had new sculpts from the game it would be grossly overpriced.

    They probably made it like this to keep the price low enough for entry level. If they added a boss it would've been expensive. Also the same with the darktide squad. If they made unique characters, it would've made it too hot of an item and we'd just have the same issue we have already with reg 40k minis
