For hotels not on chaseâŠI called Chase customer service for a hotel I wanted to stay at in London, but couldnât find on the travel portal. I was able to book the hotel that way, paying with points.
At the same price or higher price?
It's funny how deep his voice gets when sick or losing his voice.
He sounds better with a deeper voice đ maybe he should stay sick? đ€Ł
I wish I could keep my sick sexy voice after the sickness đ
â This was super helpful. I typically am too lazy to convert my Chase Reward Points to participating partners points, but this has me motivated to do so. Thanks!
I will say, a comparison of Chase vs Capital1 vs Amex would be a great one.
On the list!
Amex is the worst travel portal.
I second this idea
Used chase travel points to take family of four from Toronto to Melbourne at half the normal price!.......Loved it :đ
First. And I booked a trip to Korea from Manila for 3 people for less than 50k (due to the 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic), so I'm pretty happy with Chase's value right now haha.
Nice!
But i paid a $550 annual fee.... Shouldn't the red carpets roll out and champagne fall from the heavens?!
đ„đ
Flattered that you think "these credit card CZcamsrs" have more power and reach than the millions of dollars that credit card issuers spend on traditional PR campaigns, billboards, news articles, and bloggers. đ They totally ruin it for everyone.
You must have missed the first year when lounge access was literally what youâre describing
@@Coder-jy5ihThese CZcamsrs teach people how to take advantage of these poor little Trillion dollar banks, who rake in Billions every year by taking advantage of uneducated people. Yet youâre almost implying CZcamsrs are the bad guys. Wow. đ
@@AskSebby honestly, yes I think so. This is not a fact, itâs my opinion. I feel like credit cards used to be very easy to get approved for before and now itâs alot harder cuz of these âCZcamsrsâ. I feel like a lot of people who gets credit cards from the PR campaign tend to only get 4 or 5 credit cards at most but these CZcamsrs created a gateway and kinda flooded the market with credit card churners. Unlike personal finances content where advising on Roth IRA or HYSA, where itâs a win win for both party. Credit cards are different story. They canât control you to only use their product but they make the business model In such a way that they can retain customers who use their card for most of their purchases. I know they make money off merchant fees which is 3% or even less but they are also giving 3x, 5x on categories that benefits the user.
Imagine you get a US bank cash+ credit card and only use it for utilities and gym for 5x or even Chase freedom flex where you only make purchase on 3x categories and quarterly categories. The cc companies are loosing money on a lot of these customer which can lead them to cutting benefits. I know major banks use credit card to lure them into other financial product like checking/savings or mortgage/loan but they can only do so much. AMEX has implemented a lot of initiative like pop up mail to counter the multiple credit owners.
I understand when you got your first bonus, it felt like free money and you wanna feel the rush of getting approved for SUB again and again. You might not cancel the cards later (unless they are charge cards from AMEX) but all I am saying is the more we do this, the more itâs gonna ruin for people who remain loyal to certain credit cards as they cut benefits and more stringent algorithm. Itâs like how everyone was joining tech and now it has become saturated with junior engineer who have no jobs.
I also wanna say I donât support the banks and neither plan to but you donât have to have cards from every major bank and have to get SUB every year for alot of your content viewers. Maybe one or two credit card system might be enough for them Their time might be more worth for upgrading their skills for greater income.
great research and nice fresh content!
I think it can be worth it when you factor in the points that you get for booking (when booking in cash)! For example, the 10x points back on car rentals served me well as it was the same price as the car rental's website anyway.
Slight error in minute 5.53 - the total cost is $2052, not $2502 âŠ.but your point is still valid.
Good catch!
I like using the travel portal for activities if I have a ton of points left over. They are usually the same if not cheaper than booking direct. Example: Snorkel excursion for the Na Pali cost in Hawaii for a family of 3 is $700 booking direct. $661 through the portal. Then discount it 20% or 33% with points depending on CSP or CSR. I have the CSR, so 44,066 Points to book. Not the best redemption but still really solid.
â€âïž great video
đ€đœđ€đœđ€đœđ€đœđ€đœđ€đœ letâs gooooo sebbbb Iâm a little late to the party but Iâm here!
âChase does give 10x back on hotel bookings for CSR so if I see ones that is not under the big chains that I have status with, like 21c and Virgin, I'd book through Chase Travel. Hotels in The Edit collection does not get the 10x, and Amex FHR has guaranteed 4pm checkout for the same hotels, so no need to book those with Chase.
For flights, my home airport has a lot of Southwest options, and CSR having 1.5x is almost always better than Southwest point 1.4cpp value, so if I see a good Southwest itinerary and I don't want to pay cash, I'd book through Chase. For others, if it's just a non-stop domestic flight and the prices are the same anywhere, I'd book through Chase to get the 5x back.
I donât like how Chase doesnât give you 10x points on hotels you book in The Edit. Whatâs up with that? Amex still gives you 5x points when you book hotels that are part of Fine Hotels and Resorts.
What?
Salut!Like it. amazing editing, Asksebby. ))
Post Ranch Inn is amazing... it is one of only 11 hotels in the US to get the Michelin three-keys designation.
Good to know! I'll add it to our list to check out :)
Last couple mid tiered Hiltons I booked were actually cheaper thru Chase than the member rate. Not sure if they do anything like Hyatt
Flights out of my regional airport are always 100% of the more expensive using chase portal
My latest travel bookings I have used CSR for hotel. There seemed to be a 10x multiplier promo so I wanted to take advantage of that. The flight I booked directly and paid with Amex Plat. Both cards are low on points due to a redemption so need to rebuild.
I was able to book Southwest wanna getaway (basic) with Chase just last night on domestic roundtrip. It was the same price as what Google listed for Southwest directly. Benefit to booking with Chase Portal for me was being able to pay half the fare with Chase points and other half with the CSP for 5x earn.
Not sure where to put this request. Could you do a video on the founders card membership?
It is kind of a no go since chase did not include spirit or frontier. For a lot of 1 hour flight, why I want to pay 3 times more money to fly united from lax to sfo
Seb, heads up @5:51 you computed using 2502 instead of 2052.
Good catch!
âïž I booked a Hilton room in Amsterdam last summer using the Chase portal. It asked me if I had a rewards number so I entered it. Got all Gold status benefits to include breakfast for two. Did the same for Brussels, but no breakfast at the Gran Place. Made me a bit frumpy, but the locale was great.
Sounds so different, I almost thought it was a voiceover. Less bass more treble lol on this one
For US domestic economy flights, I've always gotten better value transferring out to Southwest rather than booking through Chase. When I was looking, the same could usually be said for JetBlue. For other airlines, however, Chase is usually points-cheaper than transferring out; this is with CSP. The cash prices have usually been roughly the same, though I see the lack of economy availability on Chase roughly a third of the time.
For hotels, I've only booked one night in NY in February, and going with the Millennium through Chase was points-cheaper than transferring to Hyatt, though Hyatt was higher cpp. They did hit us with a cleaning fee when we got there, some of which was returned at checkout.
Sas flights to Northern europe is a good use case for the chase portal, tends to be cheaper in my experience. âïž
I flew SAS and it was the worst experience ever! The whole trip from Chicago to Copenhagen, the entertainment system didn't work.
âïž Iâve been using the chase portal mainly to book rental cars. Prices are good plus booking with the CSR for the good points and good insurance is nice. I feel the rental car is the lowest risk and most flexible thing to book so if something goes wrong with that itâs not as horrible as having flight or hotel trouble.
I like your voice better than the rest of videos.
I saw something about American Airlines marking up or allocating less tickets to Chase Travel Portal bookings. Is there anything to that?
Take care, Sebby! â€
Thanks!
âTYVM! YMMV, but I really recommend Post Ranch Inn!
I am Delta, but downgrades in offerings seem to spread. IIRC, American is planning to not even offer FFMiles for some OTA purchases. Is this a special case or something you see spreading?
i'm digging the sick tones of sebby f
đ€
The fare class argument is a bit bogus to me. Main cabin is main cabin. I'm not getting a measurably different experience booking it as a Y ticket vs. a T ticket.
I generally avoid booking via card travel portal unless I'm obviously saving money that way or I'm just sitting on points to burn.
Sebby with the Microsoft Sam voice!
âI've actually had good luck with the Chase Travel portal (CSR holder). I most often use when I need to book a hotel outside of my core brand (Marriott) and need to balance points earned through status versus Chase. A few times I've noticed slightly higher rates, but once factoring in the 10x UR points, and minimum 1.5 cent per point valuation, using the portal is vastly superior due to earning useful points compared to scattered points at other chains. For flights, I often find it nearly identical (I'm a United loyalist - live near IAH), and thus valuable with 5x points earned compared to booking directly. I've found additional value in using the portal to book airport transportation internationally - earning 10x points on private airport/hotel transfers. Overall, the CSR + Portal valuation work well for me at the moment. Nice video, as always!
Would love to see what Cruise fares look like using Chase Rewards.
Chase travel is usually not a bargain. We always fly first or business class and I can alway book online at the airline site for less. Chase cannot get discounts on VBRO or AirBNB and we usually only stay in hotels at airports for early AM flight. On those we still have plenty of points from Marriot from the years before I retired. Chase can sometimes be competitive on vehicle rentals but usually the prices are about the same as booking direct with rental companies.
Is the Chase Sapphire card removing/replacing the Instacart credit? The website says the $15 credit is valid from 08/01/2022 - 07/31/2024
How about rental cars?
Capital one portal allows price match. I've gotten all price match granted đđ
âïž ready for the summer trips
Sebby sounding deeeeeep.
đ€
Hot Tea with Honeyâïž
If you ever visit Louisville KY it's pronounced LOO-É-vÉl btw.
Haha, will keep that in mind!
âïžSebby what happened with your voice? đ oh man, take care
âïž I just got my Chase sapphire, reserve bonus! Now I need to figure out how to spend it! I will be researching how to transfer points to partners.
Airbnb for a week in Miami Beach, great view second floor beach condo well worth half of the bonus
Transfer partners are the way to go!
haha "sick voice Sebby" aka "Sebby the midnight radio host, exclusively playing slow jams"
Dude, never pay $900 for Hotel Cecilia in Austin. I mean that part of town is kinda fun, I guess, but that place looks pretty gimmicky.
Hyatt points
Can the same be said for Amex, capital 1 travel portals?
Capital one has a price match guarantee, so if you find a rate thatâs lower, but available to everyone meaning you canât sign up for a membership and login and get a better rate they will match the rate by putting a credit in your Capital One travel account that you can use on your next booking.
â
2nd?
đ
Yoooo I was like âWhen did Sebbyâs voice boom like that with no highs?!?!â đ€Ł
Is this AI Sebby? lol
đ€đ€đ€
From my limited experience with the portal: flights are mostly consistent with airline sites. Hotel and rental cars usually see some mark ups. Experience appears to direct right to viator and get a consistent price
Yo, what's up with your voice? Sounds like AI is taking over...đ
Sebastian âThe Rizzlerâ Fung over here, hitting us with the sexy voice, good thing my girl wasnât in the room, put a warning up next time brother.
What happened to your American Airlines video , I saw it yesterday now itâs gone
That's on the business channel: czcams.com/video/13kn4n8_FFg/video.html
I didn't see much comparison on the chain hotels. In my experience, chase is increasing more than $5-$10 per night on their site for hotels. Going to disneyland soon and the difference was more like $20-$30 per night.
Thanks for the data point!
My OTA problem this week: I booked AEP-BRC but it was changed to EZE-BRC. Neither AR nor the OTA would change us back to AEP because I did not book direct with AR. âïž
You either have a new condenser Mic or youâre sick đ€§
Sounds like AI Sebby đ
đ€đ€đ€
sebby!! did you really put ORL for Orlando?? Shame on you :) Thou shalt not use the wrong IATA code for destinations lol. It's MCO, dude :). And yes, I agree with you--I pretty much bank my Chase points and either use them to book a room at a non-chain so that I can use my points OR, I just turn them into cash. I work as a traveling corporate trainer and have high enough spend on these cards that I easily earn between 100-200k points a year on them.
LOL Good catch! My bad.
I did use the portal to book a chain hotel to help me reach my minimum spend and get that 10x points. In this case the portal cost a few dollars more, like $5 but offered a refundable rate, the direct chain site was the same price for an advanced non-refundable rate, but I don't like how chase makes you pay all at once up front, compared to a hold the the direct chain would normally do.
My wife and I used points to book Hyatt in Maldives. When it came to booking plane tickets, I wanted to use Chase travel portal, but seemed safer to book directly with Emirates. Thanks for the insights Sebby
I don't have both Chase Sapphire cards & haven't used its travel platform. But I am interested on the user interface. For the time being, I am staying with Capital One's travel platform
It doesnt seem like any of the major US airlines allow basic economy tickets through 3rd parties. so if you want a frontier style bare bones ticket on united delta alaska or aa - you need to book directly with the airline. seems like a way for them to retain business since the best price will almost always be through them.
âïž Hot tea with honey. For Sebby. Honestly, Iâve only booked direct and avoided the portals because people keep saying not to book through them and share their stories of why not.
âïžâïžâïž
Not worth it. If it isnât international flight partner and hotel transfers itâs not worth my time exploring. Iâd rather just pay in cash or get a benefit out of it like FHR.
Agree! I rarely use the travel portals. Mostly prefer transfer partners.
Could Sebby go a month without mentioning the Maldives. đ€ I mean, I get a lot from his channels, but itâs just one redemption. It would be interesting to see if he just focused on nothing but domestic travel for a while.
Domestic travel examples are everywhere in this video. That's a you problem if you choose to focus on the Maldives.
Ask sebby ? More like ask Chad đ
I never have enough points to make good use of Chase. Once in a while, I have enough points for a flight. Usually I transfer the points to an airline or hotel to get more options
All these hotels are so expensive. They suck up points like crazy. I rather use IHG, Hyatt or another hotel card. Lot cheaper alternatives with better points. I can say I will never book this unless the other hotel chains (and their premium hotels) are out of stock.
Makes sense why Chase would not have bad airlines on the travel portal like Frontier or Spirit. Though they should partially do what Google Flights does by giving the cheaper basic economy options.
Definitely prefer to go directly through the airline or hotel to get status perks âïž
Sigh havenât had opportunity to use $50 hotel off sapphire preferred for 7 years on both players because of these price disparities
My man is sicko đ
âïž
Always hated the chase platform. To be honest, I'm just waiting until amex lifts the clause on not getting MR points for plat holders applying for gold, and I'll switch out the chase for the gold.
What?
6th?
Chase travel customer service is pretty poor in my experience. Not very helpful when things go wrong. Iâd pay extra and book direct to avoid using them

Chase travel is not worth it right now.
Chase portal sucks.. Chase tranfer partners and value is great.
thank you Sebby! Itâs funny, the video sounds like AI created it ! Sounded great and I hope you feel better â€ïžâđ©č
