    It's crazy how the little details you throw in help. When you mentioned pressing the bushing, I was like "yeah that's the boat I'm in" and then BAM! you showed the Goliath C clamp. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!

    I’m glad I saw your video, I’m looking for a c frame . I was looking for a large size one for certain applications

    Have this kit and 4x4 auxiliary set. Works well for transmission work on a hydraulic press when pressing gears and bearings on manual transmissions!

    I watched another review of this same kit, and the reviewer's set had both latches broken in the box. He called Astro and they sent him two new latches for free. He said he got the impression from talking with the customer service rep that broken latches are a known issue with that case. You might give Astro a call.

    Really, you recommend using WD-40 for the threads in the forcing screw? WD-40 has it’s uses but it’s not marketed as an extreme pressure grease which is what you should be using on those screw threads.

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  Před rokem +1

      You are correct there are probably lots of better things to use, but the point is dont run it dry. I have used WD40 because it is quick and on hand and doesnt slow the job down and have gotten many years of use out of these tools without having thread damage.

      I use antiseize. Works a treat. It's protected the threads on even my most crappiest cheap chinese press.

      @Joedoriamusic Před rokem

      Dave is correct, anti seize and/or grease on drive threads and reapply as necessary. Don't let it get old and dirty.

    Nice kits for the money for sure, and obviously not cheap like I've heard about Harbor Freights kit. Years ago, I went big on the Snap-On master kit, love it but dang did it cost a lot! Can't remember exactly, but I'd say easily 3 times what both of these go for together

    • @GearHeadsGarageChannel
      @GearHeadsGarageChannel  Před 3 lety +2

      I have used that snap on kit and it is VERY nice and works well but at my last shop we had to keep warrantying things out on it. Seriously our pittsburg set gave us less problems I couldnt believe it lol

      @@GearHeadsGarageChannel that's surprising, all I hear is crap about the Pittsburgh set. Good to know there are good ones out there

      Havent seen what they rent out these days but last time I rented a ball joint kit from them like 10+ years ago it was a much more basic set. Thats cool if they have nicer sets to rent with a deposit.

      Its worked for every vehicle I have encountered over the last year and a half. Although to be honest usually we replace entire control arms on those vehicles not just ball joints.

      If anything, It's mostly for domestics trucks and 4x4s. I own a fleet of Acuras and you have to get creative with the adapters to make it work

      You must not work on trucks haha Pretty much all the 2500's and 3500's dodge and chevys go through ball joints a lot and they definitely replaced individually other than the uppers on chevys.

      Dodge 3500, acura mdx, 1st gen s10 chevy, and 2 other mini vans owner here. Renting kits is great but if you have a lot of cars to manage buying a good press set saves time in getting the tool and gives one a break in using within the rental timeframes.
      Plus, have you seen the prices of some of these control arms to swap in? Ridicuous...and usually comes with a so-so ball joint or worse. I stay Moog as much as possible.
