They just used the cab from the smaller/cheaper curb sniffer trucks and put a big hood on it. It still has the 567 stamps in the door jam. I love peterbilt but I'm not a fan of the 589.
Seriously. I loved the look and ride of the 389, but it was clear that the interior was being held back by the old timers. Nothing but respect for the older trucker generation but my God the interior of the 389 was just inferior for no good reason. I love that this 589 has an aero truck cab with a classic exterior
Very nice truck. I drive a 2020 kenworth 880 and I love the cab on these trucks. I always liked the Pete for its battery box step and the fuel tanks and the filler caps.Interior lay out nicer on a Peterbilt.
Windshield and doors don't have the cool classic look of the older models, but at least the hood is still there. I'm sure it's an easier truck to drive and live with on a daily basis which may help keep this genre of truck relevant for a bit longer and entice some medium and larger fleets to buy some hood trucks again.
It's the 579 highway tractor with a 389 hood slapped on it. No, I like the old split windshield cab better by a long shot. This truck doesn't really have It's own identity.
Great question Dave. Yes, that 589 will be available with the Cummins X-15 as well as the PACCAR MX-13. Since these are pre-production demo units, Peterbilt built them with the PACCAR MX-13 engines.
Don't have a for sure answer on this, but I will assume the 80 inch will not have a rear window option as it is not available on the 579/567. 72 inch and smaller sleepers are available with a rear window.
After going inside both the 389 78 inch Sleeper and the 589 80 inch Sleeper, the 80 inch sleeper is certainly larger both in length and width. 389 Sleeper has the classic look but the 589 sleeper is more comfortable and functional.
4:30 there's no way that part could be customized with out looking odd the cab is a 579 cab it's totally different than the 379&389. The good thing they kept the air cleaners metal hood and the truck mirrors and not the ugly car pedestal mirrors like the ones Kenworth used off the T680 on the W990.
Hello KG, great question! YES! We will be able to customize the 589. There will be A LOT of learning to start, but we are going to enjoying learning new ways to customize the 589!
No separation on windshield, expensive change for a new one, Is there any option for gauges? Analog like digital or oem analog gauges? Maybe on special order the old-fashioned dashboard with easy to see and read gauges, no need to roll through the long menu on digital bs. Paccard also a big no for me! No thanks, 389 the truck for the job. At least for me.
I agree. I wish there was an optional 2 piece split windshield. Yes. There should be an option to put physical gauges in the B-Panel. A-Panel will still have the Digital Dash.
Too modern. Any truck that has air ride, a hydraulic clutch, and a curved windshield is a lady’s truck! 😂 jk I thinks it’s nice. I have the digital dash 579 and when I gave up the ole 379 I have always longed for a more modern version that had more space between the seats. This is great. Get these sloped nose bitch wagons off the highway! Most of all this truck would be so much more appealing if it had a caterpillar engine as an option. I hear a new engine is in the works and that’s really all this truck needs to make me buy it! Need a man’s engine in this man truck!
Peterbilt said they were proud that all sleeper configurations that were on the 389 will also be available on the 589. However, I only saw an 80" sleeper on the 589. Can't imagine they will make a 78" and an 80" sleeper for the 589. 78" sleeper on the 389 looks cooler, but the 80" sleeper on the 579/567/589 is much more comfortable and functional.
Hello Favio. Great question. I don't know at this point. UltraLoft sleeper was first available on the 579 and then became available on the 567, so maybe one day it will be available for 589 as well.
It depends what you want if new cool is what your looking for it may be the truck for you. If your looking for reliability this is no better than a Volvo to much electronics and plastic. The 567 had terrible electrical problems and this is just a 567 with a different hood. This is a no 379.

Oh Yes! Very pleased with this model. Of course, we can always wish for more or a few things different but we can say that about any model.
The sleeper in 63" or 70" is the same sleeper that is available on 379 & 389
So glad Peterbilt came to their senses and made the dual stacks functional. That was a sore spot for me with the 579s and 567s with dual cab exhausts!

Yes, the 589 will be available with an 18 speed manual as well as several other manual and automatic/automated transmissions.
