I think the main reason why the negativity toward droid returned for Din is because it's specifically battle droids. The same droids responsible for the initial trauma
I also think it was just intimidation and not him going back to his old ways. Surprised Eric didn’t consider that
he was only ok with ig11, not the others.
Not only that but these are from the same era, some could have contributed to the attack on his planet
My thoughts exactly.
@@evan3958 I agree. Seeing an odd amount of negativity towards what I consider a great episode. One of my favorite in the season tbh.
Did anyone else notice when the battle droid threw the crate, Bo actually tripped the civilian making him fall and not get hit? Din looked back to see if he was okay.
yeh i was gonna comment that.
+1
Ha. I missed that. That's cool
Just noticed that pretty cool
Thanks, I didn't catch that.
It makes complete sense that Din’s previous distrust of droids is stoked by a whole bunch of droid’s malfunctioning violently. Particularly when some of those droids are the same B2 battle droids that killed his family.
And with IG11 he learned first-hand about them reverting to their base programming.
I can't even imagine how his ptsd would be flaring seeing the battle droids that destroyed your life.
I love how the bar is called "The Resistor", I feel like sentient machines would definitely joke about circuits.
lol
I don't partake of anything that...impedes my functions.
I thank you.
I was expecting a reverse of the Mos Eisley Cantina "we dont serve your kind here".
@@Sserxe would have been a nice call back
I think the Armer is Omega fett
I don’t think he ever stopped hating droids, but that he grew fond of IG-11. The reason he went after him is because he refused to trust another droid until he absolutely had too.
And the one droid other than ig-11 that he trusted betrayed him last episode.
Exactly! Idk why everyone think he stopped hating them, he specifically says IG is the only one he trusts.
And r5 betrayed their secret base location
I think he definitely stopped hating droids, we are shown that through his interactions with the BD unit on Tattoine and with the astromech he at the very least now tolerates them. Most likely learning that *Battle droids* are still used and they have gone wild made him mad.
+Sean Walker
Also, when he went to see Grogu in Book of Boba Fett, he sees R2-D2 and says "hello friend".
So I guess we can say that Grogu is technically a Jedi Knight now
MANDALORION KNIGHT, WHO WILL EMBRACE THE DARK , THE LIGHT, AND THE WAYS OF THE MANDALORIAN!
@@damianoby8540 eventually you're probably right.. but until now he's definitely been trained more as a jedi
2:23 quick note, i think plaizir was meant to be a play on _plaisir_ which is french for 'pleasure' and not peaceful :)
That was my initial take as well.
“Plazier” does not mean peaceful. It means, “Pleasure” in many Latinate-branch languages. It’s a literal Pleasure Dome, which refers to both Kublai Khan’s Pleasure Dome in Coleridge’s poem and then the 80’s hit album/song from FGTH. Van Halen also wrote a song called’ “Pleasure Dome.”
placer. from latin. placid
but I think they were going for both as a sort of ironic commentary
I liked the cameos and the mini mystery of this episode. It's like one of those nice side quests in a fast paced rpg where you can just relax and enjoy the scenery
100% on why Mando treated the droid so well, he owed his life. And he is a mandolorian. His word is everything.
Erik Voss thank you and everyone that works on the channel. Every episode/movie from marvel and star wars gets broken down by you guys and its like watching the it again with someone who is also noticing the little details. Please keep it up!
Him giving the saber away like that makes sense. He was trying to give it away when he first got it. Now it's no longer his problem
Exactly! Like he decided he'd try to learn it but he was absolutely more than happy to give it up.
He should have kept the staff
I was actually wondering why more people didn't realise it then. I was happy to see it pay off
why do i have a feeling the saber will find its way back to Din? i can see him thinking "not this sht again" XD
@Redguy221 that would be funny af.
I loved this side quest like episode, different and still very good.
Every episode is a "side quest." Think about it. Look back on the last 2 seasons.
How? We've waited 2.5 years for a side quest with 2 episodes to go🤦♂️
This episode is full of Scifi references. Blade Runner 2049 (lab scene 14:24 ) Hyperloop scene is almost shot for shot from the city panoramic scene in Logan's Run plus the crazy droid laser in the lab, also Logan's Run, Sounds from Minority Report, Hal obviously 2001, (BTW : kmandinav is russian for commander)
It is so cool that you guys and Ryan from Screen Crush mention each other. It's very nice to see that there is no competition between you . We are all one big nerd family!
I totally caught the Logan's Run and Blade Runner nods
I was thinking blade runner in the lab and the chase scene
How come no one else had noticed that Jack Black's character isn't just wearing an Amnesty Program Badge, but that he is actually wearing the whole Amnesty Program Uniform?
Look at it, it is the same blue outfit that every other amnesty program subject wears, only he has had a bunch of piping, trim, embroidery, and a cape added to it.
At the beginning of the season I'm pretty sure Din says something about how "it has to be" IG-11 cause that's the only droid he trusts (I'm paraphrasing) him forgiving other droids hasn't been fully established and being surrounded by battle droids I could see being upsetting. Even with the R5 unit he brought it along begrudgingly.
Can we appreciate Lucas making a species called "calamari" well done
I really enjoyed the nod to "We don't serve your kind here" from the original trilogy when Mando and Bo walk in
Yeah, that was a nice bit, and I was waiting for it. They tee’d it up nicely.
I really thought they would find the IG memory circuit here. The whole city was filled with repurposed droids, and there were even Ugnauts to tie in Kuiil.
I was thinking it's all the more reason to come back to the planet!!
We haven't seen them leave yet so I won't be surprised if Din visits the Ugnauts again.
The medical droid wasn't remotely controlled, rather corrupted by the nanodroids after it extracted the Nepenthe from the B2
I totally saw the dark Saber change of hands coming when BoKatan saved Din
Seth Gabel who voiced the robot bartender is actually married to Bryce Dallas Howard who directed this episode.
Folks might remember Seth Gabel from his role as Lincoln Lee on Fringe.
I think his issue with the droids is these type of battle droids were the same type that killed him family. Since IG was a different type of droid and he fought alongside it he was able to overlook his feelings,
I took issue with Lizzo the Hutt
@@galvanizedgnome
Keep crying, fam
People are very negative but I enjoyed this episode very much
Same
They're not real fans 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agreed
Likewise!

Paraquat is a herbicide that has been known to kill people through accidental ingestion because of its similar appearance to carbonated drinks. I’m not sure if the writers had that in mind or just came across it as a word to inspire a name.
This episode was a lot of fun. I loved it!
I liked this episode because it was fun. Remember fun in Star Wars?
Loved all the cameos. If Grogu likes someone, you know you can trust them.
The cook droid also twirls around the knives like Grevious :-)
Bo and Din entering the dining room is similar to Empire too. Except they actually stay for dinner.
this episode was wild and i enjoyed it even in its goofiest moments. it was good fun.
Everything with Christopher Lloyd I loved. It definitely brought back memories of Uncle Fester!
How awesome would it have been if, Christopher Lloyd said in the end, "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for these Mandalorians" as an homage to Scoobie Doo. :)
@Daniel Peterson OMG, they missed a huge chance. Bravo, you, sir, have the best comment!
I was thinking Judge Doom
I was thinking he was about to say "Seperatism is just a red herring!"
Those Police Droids reminded me of those Police Robots from Wall-e
I have zero complaints about this season or any of the seasons. The fact that I can watch it with my children and they LOVE it I am a happy fan.
The Mandalorian keeps getting better, every week!
The less; "Star Wars," they try making it, the further afield they go, into wilder and even wackier territory, the more it feels like Star Wars!
Even in the Clone Wars series, it was always the weird and wonderful, (a strange stop-over on Mortis, the Nightsisters on Dathomir, General Krell, in the Darkness on Umbara, and even Colonel Meebur Gascon and his; "D-Squad," etc.) that made for some of the best, most memorable arcs of storytelling in the entire saga.
Whether you're a fan of the current season of the Mandalorian or not, it's arguably impossible to deny they're still using the series to further expand the boundaries of what Star Wars can be!
And as for me? I am ALL IN for that!
Not every episode, (or even every season,) is going to be everyone's favorite, which is why it's awesome we're living through these times, when there's no end in sight for many more!
(Especially for someone who lived through the so-called; "dark times," following Return of the Jedi. When, for all we knew, any future prospects of getting any more stories told in that Galaxy would be limited to whatever fans could get Lucasfilm to approve of.
(What became the; "expanded universe.")
(Now; "Legends.")
So, it's difficult to not appreciate whatever we get, when we were for so long left to go without.
_(I'm just sayin' ✌️)_
10:52 that actually is really good visual storytelling. It shows how mando cares and is more down to earth when he thinks to jump rather than jet pack and when he looks back to check if anyone was hurt.
I got more of old-school ST:TNG vibes from the cameos more than anything else. I loved it. 😊
Eccentric ex-Imperial marries a princess and creates a utopia on a separatist world using repurposed surplus battledroids for civil service and labor tasks. Not every society needs to be a depressing underworld filled with crime and suffering. Not every planet needs to be a desert or lava hellscape.
I really don't understand why ppl are so mad at the cameos, i loved the episode
Who cares what they think or what you think
@@trihard2191 you care enough to reply lol, and the direction and future of star wars does depend on the opinion of its viewers
@@AutumnLeavey who cares what they think or what you think
Christopher Lloyd was ironically, the best part of the episode
I always read Mando's character growth as learning to trust individual droids but still mostly distrusting them as a whole (though maybe also begrudgingly trusting droids trusted by people he trusts, like Peli Motto's droid crew). This is why he was intent on reviving IG-11 specifically and went to great lengths to attempt to accomplish it. Additionally, R5 literally just ratted out the covert's location to one of their old war buddies, so I'm sure that didn't help much with Mando's trust levels.
After Zeb appeared last week, I scanned all the un-helmeted Mandalorians for a purple-haired one like Sabine.
Same, been doing that all season though.
Sabine is on Lothal at this point
The chase scene with the battle droid through the city reminded me quite a bit of the Zhora chase scene in Blade Runner (1982), especially when it ends with the fallen robot's body over broken glass.
Thank you for translating!!
I knew I could count on you!
Crazy episode but I still enjoyed it.
I have to point out how good Star wars is with their star ship design. That quarren ship was immediately recognizable as a quarren ship. The second it showed up on screen I said "that has to be a quarren ship".
the table scene reminds me of the madhatters tea party
That lawn bowling scene using a living creature gave off Red Queen vibes.
weird episode but I still loved it.
I loved this episode, it was fun. The cameos were part of the fun too.
I LOVED THE CAMEOS! Fresh and fun. Then it went back to being all serious. Wonderful episode.
I think the fact that they were battle droids triggered some of that hatred.
I just want to see Din kick some ass with the dark saber!
I loved this episode, it moves the story forward, but it's also a small side quest episode that focuses on Word Building and Character Dynamics rather than the Main Story making this episode both refreshing and interesting to watch. Also I loved the cameos in this episode as well.
The text saying "this means nothing but fans will interpret it" took me out :D
Gotta say Erik, I'm very surprised that you missed Bo Katan making the pedestrian fall to avoid being hit by the container @10:59....
He mentions it after…..
I wonder why Bo Katan had such an easy time wielding the dark saber when it was always heavy for Din
I was hoping you’d translate all those signs while watching the episode. Love the commitment to the details!
Loved this episode so much!! Like you guys said yesterday, it was giving law and order vibes lol. So much fun. Eff the haters !
I loved this episode !! This whole season as a whole I have loved
The med droid got activated because of the nevinthe sample it took
I think even though he no longer hates all droids by default I think mando holds a specific hatred for separatist ‘evil’ droids
Had me at Battle Droids.
6:50 because these are battle droids and they’re the type that killed his family, he’s obviously been working at changing but he ain’t perfect
Jack Black's delivery of "Despicable" was just incredible! 😂😂😂
apparently the prince at beginning was from Mando season 1 bounty
I don’t think he suddenly has a hatred of droids again he just has almost a vendetta or hatred of just battle droids and the ones that attacked his home and he tolerates other droids
So many ppl r hating on this season idk why, it’s really good
Okay, "NICE" GOT ME 😂😂😂😂😂
Haha I didn't know he was Unlcle Fester. How didn't I see that 😂
I wait with agony for your reviews. As a 50ish yr old fan boy: I love this series and your reviews.
Gigawatts??? I caught that... 😆
The first part was definitely written like Star Trek with the sitting down in the middle and hailing the other ship. The dialogue was written like Trek too.
Din jarren hates hates droids in this episode Because the battle droids brought up traumatic memories most likely
He hats droids sometimes. Plot dependent. Keep up!
"duku lovin doc brown", 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🙏 Eric you got the best opening lines
Din left his jetpack on the Gauntlet, so he couldn't use it during the chase.
Din has grown to accept only the droids that he has physically seen in positive lights. He is a hunter, after all, and IB earning his respect after fighting alongside him is not an unorthodox idea. The Resistor scene was there to demonstrate that Din’s mentality toward droids has not necessarily changed to include an inherit trust of all droids, BUT only the ones he knows to be trustworthy.
The more I think about it the more I love this episode
I’ve watched others but I was waiting for yours!
Great job on the video Erik! Thanks for making it.
Thanks again Voss and team!
Din's beef is with Battle Droids, and extended to all Droids. He's lightened up on other droids, but Battle Droids killed his family. It's forever and always f*@k those guys!
that drone was tuff
I think it’s specifically battle droids that he doesn’t trust.
Also the monorail car in the tube, definitely a nod to Logan's Run.
I think people are making a lot of how Din can communicate with the Ugnots but remember Din can also communicate with Tuskens he is much more worldly/galaxyly than a lot of other characters.
Dins an outsider, even to his own culture, as a foundling. He's learned how to adapt himself to fit into other cultures as a survival tool.
Wow Erik really didn’t like this episode 🤷🏻♀️ lol I loved it
Seems like they're showing good leader qualities in Din and Bo, maybe insinuating they need to lead Mandalore together.
I loved this episode. Might just go rewatch Close Wars after this season is done.
Plaisir means pleasure in French does it not?
THANKS for this!!!!
I think this episode teaches Din that drid aren't inherently bad, because it takes a living being to program the droids.
Why was there no Bender cameo in that droid bar scene?!
I would have appreciated a
Bite my shiny metal...
This episode was great. The “detective story” in the beginning, guest artists and the lifestyle shown, Bo Katan’s arc. It is getting better and better.
I love this season so much
Din still doesn’t like droids. He makes exceptions for particular droids. This might be part of a longer journey of overcoming prejudice.
The droid chase scene was straight up out of Blade Runner.
They fall into a mando buddy cops in the blade runner wonderworld rabbit hole, when that hyper pod launches xD
weird episode but so much fun watching it
My wife and I enjoyed the episode. Not sure why Jack and Lizzo bothered some people so much. Didn’t take us out of the episode at all. It’s called entertainment not homework Voss, I’ll just enjoy, you are paid to analyze. Fun episode. This is the way.
This is the way
i loved it as well!
This is the way
Exactly
I think you should have closed with "I have spoken"
Is that... Bryce Dallas Howard in the repurposed stormtrooper outfit when Din and Bo walk into the grand hall?
why the negativity toward droid returned for Din is because it's specifically battle droids. The same droids responsible for the initial trauma for sure 100%
Thanks Erik!
I truly liked the episode. Twas a very fun watch.
@0:11 Omg lol. Great impression of Doc Brown. I thought you’d do a Jerry Maguire @6:41
