    I live in Minnesota, people go nuts for wild rice here. It sells for $5-$8 a pound. I can't imagine just feeding it to ducks.

    Thank you for this information. I have two ponds. There is however no way to drain the water down for a dry harvest. so we will probably do it the native American way with a boat and a flail.

    So I’ve got a beaver pond right next to a large creek in North Carolina. Probably 2-3 feet where I would want to plant it. I could literally broadcast the seed into the water and it will grow? And if so when should I plant it if I want it ready by end of October-early November? Sorry. I know this question has been asked many times. I just want to make sure I’m reading it right.

      Hi Jeremy, yes the seed can be broadcasted directly into standing water up to 3 feet deep as long as you have good water clarity, little to no weed competition, and good sunlight. I would recommend planting sometime between March and the end of April.

    Imagine saying you created your own flyway lol

      Look at the size of that land. There are islands all over the world with smaller flyways than that property

    I'm wanting to plant this in ohio. I have some great beaver sloughs with wet banks and fresh water flow. Wondering what the best way to plant ? Don't want the seed to wash down away. Just looking to plant along the banks less than an acre.

      @riverrefugeseed9558  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Featherz & Bonez, it really depends on how strong the current is. If it's relatively weak/slow you should be able to water broadcast the seed and get it stick to the bottom. If you'd like to discuss it, feel free to give us a call at 541-466-5309

    When should this rice be planted in the mississippi delta for duck hunting?

    • @coleweede1953
      @coleweede1953 Před 3 lety

      I have read spring planting. Fall planting only works in the cold climates.

    • @riverrefugeseed9558

      Hi Nick, sorry for the delayed response. For the MS delta I would recommend planting sometime between March and the end of April.

    Will it take over a body of water? Do you have to clear out a hole for water fowl?

    • @riverrefugeseed9558
      @riverrefugeseed9558  Před 2 lety

      No, it stays where you plant it pretty well. The ducks will land in it just fine, just depends if you want an open water landing zone.

      @@riverrefugeseed9558 so do you just decoy in the rice?

    I live in north east Texas, Marshall Texas. I need it to mature in October, is that possible??

    • @riverrefugeseed9558
      @riverrefugeseed9558  Před 3 lety +1

      James, for the sake of maximum seed viability it is best to get it planted by May. At 100-120 days to maturity, it puts your rice crop finishing late August/early September at which time the mature seed shatters off the stalk, back in to the water where it waits for the birds to feed on it. That puts it a little before your October target but not by enough that I would think it would greatly effect your seasons bird production.

    How much quantity wild rice seed need in 1 hectare land

    • @riverrefugeseed9558
      @riverrefugeseed9558  Před 3 lety +1

      Our recommended seeding rate is 50-75lb per acre so one hectare being close to 2.5 acres would put it at about 125-185lb to cover a hectare.

    • @riverrefugeseed9558
      @riverrefugeseed9558  Před 2 lety

      Hello, wild rice has little to no salt tolerance and is not a good choice for areas with brackish water.

    If we used seed drill machine

    • @riverrefugeseed9558
      @riverrefugeseed9558  Před 6 měsíci

      No, wild rice cannot be drilled. Since it is a wet seed it will not feed through a drill. Best to either hand broadcast or use a broadcast spreader that has an agitator wheel in it.
