    One thing gardeners have in common is seeds. We buy them, share them, and need to figure out the best way to store them. I’ve used different storage methods over the years depending on my situation and amount of seeds. It’s important to find a seed organization system that works for you.
    Having an effective system for seeds saves you money. If you know what seeds you have, you can make a plan to use them rather than buying duplicate seeds or forgetting about previously-purchased seeds.
    An organized seed-saving system also saves you time. Garden planning is much easier when you know which seeds to purchase. Planting-time goes smoother when you have the needed seeds on hand.

    Awesome tips. I like to put a little piece of blue masking tape on my cool weather crops so I know immediately without having to read the label which approximate season the seed is for.

    I have all of my seeds in zip lock bags, in my grandmothers 1800 steamer trunk. It's my treasure chest. But, I need to go one step further and get these containers. I think they have been in my shopping cart for weeks and I forgot about them, until this video. My favorite part of your system? The holding area! YES! I need a put away bin! I just pile them up and "eventually" get to them. This is perfect! Great video! Thanks.

    Thanks for all the great tips Angela! I store my seeds in a bin from Dollar Tree. I created dividers for veggies and flowers further separated by fall/winter and spring/summer, and sections for herbs and tomatoes. Once open, the seed packets are placed in small envelopes and like you I add the months to plant (from your website or calendar of course 😊) and sometimes other info like depth. I had no idea some seeds can last up to 5 years. I usually toss them. Such good info. I store larkspur and sweet pea in the frig.

    Thanks for the info. I use binders with baseball card inserts. The packets fit pretty good. I have a flowers, spring, and fall binder. Im sure I will need to expand that as I have quite the love of seeds.

    I love it! We moved last summer and are gearing up to start our first garden here! I recently got some 3x5 photo album sleeves because I wanted to start printing more pictures. And in the amazon reviews, I saw that people also use them for storing their seed packets! So I used some of those for my seed storage/organization, and put them in a flexible note-binder. There are a few file pockets in the front I can put irregular-shaped things in, with my Clyde's sliding garden planner, and other notes etc. It's easy to add to and rearrange, so it should work fine until I outgrow it (at which point maybe I'll get separate binders for flowers/herbs and veggies). 😄 Fun-fun!

    I have a crazy seed storage system…. I have an extensive amount of seeds I have over 500 varieties of tomatoes… Over 100 varieties of beans… 30 types of peas… And then I have about 70 different varieties of micro dwarf tomato plants😂
    I have 5 of the photo storage plastic bins ; a Rubbermaid bin and then I also store the long term seed storage in a seeed fridge in a vacuum sealed bag with my own susvival seed packs. Fridge always stays closed. Building those up slowly. My house will be like slavbald😂

    Angela, I really love Az, especially the heat down here in Tucson. I usually don’t turn on my air conditioner unless it goes higher than 105. The heat doesn’t brother me at all. So my house is quite warm. Any suggestions on keeping my seeds cooler? I have them in a sealed plastic bin (clear at the moment) in a hall closet. Appreciate advice.

    • @Mike_in_Thailand
      @Mike_in_Thailand Před 2 lety +1

      Moisture/humidity is the thing you need to avoid, plastic (and glass jars) traps moisture but as Angela is in arizona I imagine the humidity is near zero ? If you use plastic I would also use silica gel to absorb moisture. Here in Thailand where I live the humidity is often around 100%, seeds don't last long once the packet is opened.
