- It’s time to think about seeds, but I’m forcing myself to organize what I have before I order more seeds.
This seed storage idea comes from Deanna at Homestead & Chill. Read about it here: homesteadandchill.com/garden-...

WHERE I BUY SEEDS:
I get this question a lot and here are my thoughts on it. Almost every established seed company has good products that will grow well. When I’m deciding where to purchase seeds I factor in selection, price and company philosophy. Sometimes I just like the seed packet design more from one company over another. And don’t forget about your local garden center: they have quality seeds and sometimes it can be easier to purchase when you can physically look through the options. I never buy seeds from eBay or Amazon.

I liked your "...3 types of basil here...also known as 4 types of basil." Made me laugh.
"Keep it so I don't buy it again." - Finally someone who gets me!
That confession made me feel so seen.
Ha! Kindred seed spirits. :)
Are we on the same brain wave?! Organization and seeds all the way 😁 And yeah I have a giant spreadsheet I have been running for 10 years with lots of notes on what died and why in the garden 😂
Y Garden so interesting that all of us gardeners watch and learn so much from others. So humbling 😊🌱🌷💕
If you meet a gardener who says they know everything, run the other way 😄
Yuliya and Erin. My favorites!
Two of my favorite things!!!!! GARDENING AND ORGANIZING Why I feel better watching you organize, I'm not sure, but I do!!!!!
How weird is this?! It is so satisfying to watch someone else organize her seeds?😄 perfect coffee video. Thanks for the inspiration.
Sitting here on a Sunday morning with a cup of coffee, while I have some free quiet time with the fam still sleeping, this is a great video and I laughed out loud at least twice. A keeper!
“I’m always gonna do too much when it comes to seeds....whatever”........I FEEELLLLTTT THIS 😂🖤🌿
Thank you for your statement on GMOs. There is worldwide confusion about this and it really needs to be put to rest.
There are only 5 GMO plants in the entire world, and none of them are available to the public .It really irks me when people get on this non GMO kick in catalogues .
One thing that helps me with really small seed to know where it's being sowed is to mix your seed with sand. I put it in a glass cheese shaker and sprinkle this where you want to sow it outdoors. Credit goes to Martha Stewart. Really enjoyed your video today!!
Nice video. I went to these photo boxes a few years back. I trialed the 4x6 size like you used. They were ok for most seed packets but if you are like me using seed packets from Europe they are a lot larger. I have switched to the 5x7 boxes. They hold those larger packets and you can fit the US packets side by side and get a lot more packets in the space. Check them out. SOW on!
My lord. You are my long lost sister. Seeds. Gardening. Organizing. Gardening. Fall "nesting". Gardening.
And yes--I WAY overdo the seedstarting as well.
I always wanted a sister! :)
Yes..♡♡♡♡
Erin, as always, thanks for keeping it real! I enjoy your videos for the information you pass on but LOVE that you’re a normal person like the rest of us!
I just subscribed because you are the first CZcams gardener I've seen who actually understands that GMO is not an issue for most plants and that it is more complicated than often thought. Thank you! Reason is in short supply on the internet.
Sticker removal. Use your hairdryer on the inside behind the sticker heating it up. The glue should soften making it easy to pull the sticker off.
...or "Goo Gone"
Or olive oil...
czcams.com/video/OnN859S59dk/video.html Here’s a vid i made of removing a sticker from a plastic tray.
Cora Blu Goo Gone and olive oil just add more goo that needs to be cleaned up. I like this idea! Will definitely give it a try!
Sibyl Cushman That was my thought as well. i no longer scrap off stickers.
I live in Kansas on a ranch. Thank you for explaining the GMO to the general public. It has become a marketing tool that is kinda ridiculous.
label the spine of each small box AND inside the open cover so you can easily refile scattered packs into empty boxes. love your videos!
My thoughts exactly - great use of a P-touch label machine
For someone relatively new to seeds, ie. Me 🤗 this was incredibly helpful. If I can’t keep my head straight and organized I would never keep doing it. I love the little paw creeping in. You have the best helpers! 😂
LOVE the storage solution and I have to say I Love you, your videos always make me smile and give me a chuckle. thanks for sharing and giving such great inspiration and content!
Here’s a tip for you: if you want to take labels off easily, aim a hair dryer, on the low setting, right at the label until the label can be pulled off easily.
Great tip! I'll give it a shot.
@@TheImpatientGardener Hi ! Did this work ? :)
Yes! This has worked for most stickers for me over the years.
The BEST VLOG channel station whatever it's supposed to be called but you call it you are down-to-earth you are real you gave us through information you are not begging for money it's just a great Channel and we enjoy watching you! Thank you for taking your time 2 in lightness about reality as planting and the beauty of your flowers once that's done. Truly it's a pleasure to watch you and learn so much, have a wonderful day
My husband was in the room when I watched this and he said "It's like you're the one talking!" when you were explaining your brains calendar. 100% accurate lol.
This is cracking me up!
I was so happy!
My calendar brain is the same!. I would also add cooking season for the cool weather months 😁
The first 2-3 minutes and I have never felt more seen and heard in my entire life! I am so glad I found you today!
3 years into experimenting and learning gardening - wife says "obsession" - and I'm swimming in seed packs.
I stumbled into these same 'photo organizers' at Amazon and they've cleaned up my seeds act, for now. Time will tell.
Now moving on to my new drip watering system with controller. Spouse remains skeptical. I WILL engineer this!
I have been using this box for four years now. I love it as I stay on top of my seed collection.
Howdy from Texas
So glad to hear that it's working well for you!
Haha! You make the same noise I make when those blasted stickers don't peel off in one piece!!
I used to have tons of seeds. Now, at 71, I find that the few I have I rarely plant. Reason? Oh, I can't do much gardening anymore. I do have a Few seeds though and they are kept in their individual packages in a large manila envelope. Your way would have been so great years ago. Loved seeing someone else saying, "No." NOT to a child.
This video is like watching myself in the mirror. Love it!
I absolutely love your videos because you're so relatable! I purchased a similar case last year at Michaels, now I need to dust off my label maker and start organizing. Great information with a sprinkle of humor is a perfect way to start the day!
Me, two weeks ago. I got the multi colored version and used different colours to group. I.e. all my root veggies are in the orange. Used my labeler to make nice little labels.
I love your "calendar" ! Great seed storage ideas, thanks!
Sugar Magnolia and Sugar Daddy peas are pretty nice! The Sugar Magnolias are purple and quite sweet. The Sugar Daddy ones are green and very sweet like Sugar Snaps! :)
That's exactly how I organize mine. I have 6 half sized ones like that. Game changer!
Has anyone ever told you you remind them of the comedian Kathleen Madigan?! I'm so thrilled Laura from Garden Answer recommended you! Your seed organization is brilliant. I'm a beginner flower farmer and I'm totally stealing this. Thank you for what you do!
Never heard that one before! Enjoy that organization! :)
8:10 That is me! 2 packs of this....3 of that, good grief! This is the first time your channel came up on my feed. Subscribed. I need to organize my seeds. So motivated now... thanks!!
I love your videos...aww the kitty and Odin
Great video. I love how the storage boxes are repurposed for seeds. Fabulous idea. And the labels will make finding things so much easier.
I love nasturtiums too and they are also edible. The flowers have a peppery taste :) I ask the kids if they'd like to eat a flower.
Yes, yes, yes! I put the leaves in salads sometimes too. Such a great plant for kids to grow for all those reasons.
My husband is a farmer and grows soybeans, corn, fields of sunflowers, and cotton. I don’t know about the sunflowers but I know all the rest are genetically modified. I know it isn’t good but it is our living and he is a several generation farmer. Well I am a nurse but he pays the bills and I buy plants lol!! We live in Alabama.
I have been binge watching your channel and I enjoy it so much!! Love your passion for gardening!! I love it too! Other than direct sowing I haven’t ventured into seeds before except I did the milk jug last year and they all took and turned out so well!! Bought light shelf at gardeners. Already used some plant lights!! I have over 200 houseplants so I enjoy using Tropicals a lot in my garden spaces also!! Which I love huge leaves and we have beautiful big banana trees that bear fruit but it gets cold before they ripen. We also have the elephant ears and caladiun. Now I need to grow some of your wispy leaf stuff!!
Love this!
Love this.
Great info! Love the cameo from the fur babies. Would also like to see a video on the flower seeds that you direct sow.
So I did this today.......I love the system so far, and decided that I don't need to keep seed from 2006.......I tossed anything that was more than 5 years old, and there was a LOT! LOL!
Such a great idea!!
Love this idea. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love your videos! You are so relatable.
Great video! Thanks!
I love watching Deanna!! I've been thinking about ordering one as well!
Boy have I missed your videos!!!!! Happy New Year thank you so much for the seed tips.....💪🌱💕
Thanks guys great ideas. !
Sooooooo fun!!! 🥳
Loved this video! My calendar is exactly the same!! Thanks for the great tip on the cool boxes!
Love the kitty paw! 🤣🐈
This was inspirational. Time to start ordering stuff and get started.
I have the same storage containers for seed storage and I LOVE them!!
I didn't think you were stupid, but I was confused by your statement that they were alphabetized. 🤣 I figured you must have been talking about the packets inside the cases. I love that you came back on camera to explain and then fixed the "problem" LOL. Thanks for the super helpful video.
You are speaking to my soul!! I needed this, thank you
first of your videos, totally loved it and your sense of humor. look forward to more. just ordered one of those cases
I love your videos❤️
Great idea, think you for sharing! Loved the video!
Love this, so up my inner ocd! Thanks for sharing
😂😂😂 ... My calendar is identical... !! Great video... thank you!!
Brilliant! Just ordered 2 on Amazon. Thanks for sharing.
Hairdryer on the stickers works like a charm!!
Great video and wonderful storage system. I'm inspired.
For zinnias, I use two plates and a wet paper towel. I put the wet paper towel with the seeds in between the two plates. I wait two days and then plant in individual cells. Almost 100% germination rate every time. However, zinnias like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers have an optimum time. They like it warm to grow robustly. We had such strange spring weather that seedlings started early languish on. Now everything is growing like weeds.
Thanks, I’m really motivated now to buy my seeds and organize them.
We joined the bandwagon on this seed organization system! The best way to do it!
You're right about that English cucumber, once you eat that, you ain't never going back!
Awesome idea. Michaels stores carry those. I find their labels come off easy. Doesn’t that aggravate?!? Your animals are just too cute. Lol. Thanks for the organizing fun. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Funny girl...."...better!" Love it! Also love seeing your sweet helpers!! Aren't they just fun!!! Merry Christmas, Erin...hope you guys have a blessed and cheery time!
I LOVE this idea for organizing seeds! I’d like to try it myself
Lol, you really struck a cord with me ! 😜
Great info!
Zinnias grow like weeds here in Tucson, Az. Hot n little water for those guys! I’m going to adopt that little photo/seed box organization! Love it! Thank you for sharing! 🌵🌵🌵
Thank you so much for the seed organizing idea...and for helping me realize I’m a seed hoarder. 🤫 I stuffed 2 cases. Loving it!
Thanks for the storage suggestion! They photo keepers were on sale this past week at my Michael’s so I picked one up and I LOVE it! Now I just need a label maker 🤣
I'm trying it. Got my containers over the weekend.
Yes! So excited for seed starting season! Thanks for the organization tips. And so frustrating that in 2020 there are still labels that don’t peel off cleanly! One of my pet peeves. Happy seed sowing!
Please make some seed starting/planting videos
OK! :)
I just love your humor!! Same as me. 😂
As someone who is organizationally challenged, thanks for this. I have had the same experience with zinnias as you.
It's nice to know it's not just me.
Thank you for the video I need organize my seeds
Erin is so real
Thanks for the share, I just started using seeds late summer and felt very accomplished with the results of some of the seeds , but I still have a lot to learn. My space is limited so I’ll have to be selective, but looking forward to the challenges.👍❤️😊
eminent is a good pea, picked young very sweet
Cool, dry, and mouse proof. I like my peas in a can.💚🙃
Love this idea and I love your channel. I’ve been storing my seeds in binders (in trading card holders), but the binder is bursting at the seams (not holding all my seeds), and I love the idea of grabbing one container with cucumbers or whatever, as you suggested. Also love how dry these containers will keep the seeds (I live in the Pacific Northwest).
I am also in full-on organization mode - I have made my garden plan for my dahlias and have been making plant labels. Looking forward to the continuation of your dahlia series.!
Oh yeah most important part of all my rambling, I grew dahlias for the first time and I am hooked!! Love them all but especially the peachy colored one!!
I really enjoyed this video!! 😁
I haven't grown many seeds so far, mostly because I was focusing on getting a bit more established plants for my containers, but I think I might get a few this year and sow the ones I've already saved. But first I need to finally get my (autumn) bulbs into the soil, which I should have already done, but our cold months are January to March, so I know they'll be ok.
I've been scared to grow any vegetables though, mostly because of pests (and the lack of space, but I could reconfgure some pots for that). Maybe I will try in the future.
Have a wonderful day!!!! 😊
Great video with lots of good ideas and the motivation (which I really, really needed) to go thru my shoebox of seeds before I order more. Oh, and I just use a swipe of alcohol on the sticker and they come right off.
Inspiring. I always get driven to get organized in every area this time of year, which leads me to being overwhelmed and nothing gets organized like it should..lol. I've never grown lettuce or started anything from seeds, it's a little intimidating. Maybe I'll try this year
I did this a month ago with one from Joann Fabrics....love! And no stickers to pull off...lol. The 4x6 photo case is perfect.
Thanks for your video! With your inspiration, I decided to organize my seeds into 12 major boxes for each month :)
Thanks Erin for the GMO info. I've been worried about buying squash seed because I wasnt sure if they were GMO. Great video.
Hello from south Mississippi (garden zone 8b). I just subscribed to your channel and thanks to you I just spent $20🙄. Actually, I think it’s a really good idea. Thank you for sharing this idea and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
I would recommend the Golden Sweet Pea! It is absolutely gorgeous with its variegated leaves, violet blossoms, and pastel yellow pods. It's an amazing little garden snack and I will be growing so much of it this year after the great success of last year!
Loved this video. I hate labels that don’t come off easy too! Would love to see a video of your seed growing set-up, brand preferences, tips. Will be my first year growing from seed!
What a clever idea! I knew I wanted those containers when I saw them in at JoAnn Fabrics. I didn't buy them because I didn't have that many photos to store. I'm buying them now because I have plenty of seeds to store. :)
I definitely have the similar problem as you in organizing my gardening stuff and seeds. I'll look into the compartment system. Thanks
Thank you so much for sharing this...ordered two of them. Going to be so nice instead of all in one box. Thank you also for going through the seeds you had on hand...very inspring. Impatiently waiting for spring here in northern Wisconsin so seed starting helps that a lot!
That's one of the main reasons I get so into it too: Scratches that gardening itch a bit.
Thank you for the GMO info!❤
OMG, the cat is hilarious. We got the same containers last year and have worked wonders. Since we also have a huge seed addition we started out with four and now we just recently bought four more. lol I definitely love the label maker idea. We might have to do that. Thanks for sharing.
