After seeing De Vroue Christina, a 91-foot tjalk motorsailor, sail from Europe across the Atlantic to the U.S., down the east coast and into the Caribbean, you come to realize how truly capable these Dutch barges are, particularly with lee-boards. Extremely stable, go-anywhere kind of boat. Not a bad price for this one, I suppose. Needs some updating, but the bones look good. Plenty of potential.

      Dutch-style barges are cool!
Also in the USA, the working
canals (4 in NY state) most of
      the larger canals in Florida
      and the inland waterway
      have lift bridges. So, you
      don't need to take down
      the pilot's roost/bridge.
      [Some wide-beam canal
      boats in UK have hydraulic
      drop-down capitain's
      pilot's cabins, as well as
      8' of headroom in the
      cabin]
      The section of canals in
      the middle part of UK
      will only accept narrow
      (under 7' wide) boats.
      But the wide beams are
      popular in Scotland and
      the southern area of UK.

When the camera went in to the salon, I thought, oh gosh its too blue, then realised it was a reflection of the sky, not the usual grey fair that I’m used to, well done for choosing one of the 5 nice days in the UK. Good timing.

Nice layout. Get rid of the carpet. Clean and organized engine room. Any specs available. And as someone else mentioned, too bad we do not have these in the USA.

All that roof-space - and not a single solar panel.

  • @maartenfrankvanderhaar5664

Sadly for such a Large Dutch Barge, one bed room very disappointing!!.

How often does the bottom need scraping ? Flat bottom barges for these shallow canals. Different life style. All the furnitures gone in this one . You’d think a new carpet would have been installed.

About every 4-5 years, it is overdue now as has not been ashore since new , yes the vendors have retained their furniture as they have moved ashore and ideally the carpet requires replacement agreed this is all taken into account with the asking price at £164,500. If you wish to view do get in touch by email boatsales@tingdene.net Thank you

lovely Dutch barge until you got in to the bow and showed the bedroom which i felt was a right let down, the bed looked very low and for the size of the barge i expected a larger bedroom,

Thanks, only those narrow boats are build to travel the narrow canals in the UK. Not so suitable for USA rivers.

A sail away is a boat that isn't fitted out! This is fully fitted! Think you need to change the title! I was shocked at the price of a sail away!

It was purchased new from Piper as a sailaway and then fitted by someone other than Piper. I prefer Piper's own fit-out to be honest.
