Maybe interesting to know: Thomas Sankara was the one who renamed the country from upper volta to Burkina Faso. He also achieved food self-sufficienty, was the first head of state to promote women's rights and much more
Yes you're right he is the person who promote our juice dafani and put our traditional clothes in international markets
His focus on self reliance and his patriotism was unique as compared to many other African leaders
He also banned FGM, planted 10 million trees and vaccinated 2.5 million children against several diseases such as Yellow Fever.
@@Jarmint As a Finn, a citizen of Europe’s most forested country, I approve of this. Plant more trees 🌳🌲🌴! Also, vaccines don’t cause autism, just a heads-up for the tin-foil-hat people 💉.
@@viraat610 Self-reliance and patriotism; two most important ideals for a leader of a country to follow 👍🏻🇧🇫.

+EranShahr You're going to have to wait a while.
I can wait for the partially recognised nation of Zyugyzupis
+EranShahr omg it will take a REALLY lot of time. By the way, i want to see uruguay, so...
Thomas Sankara "the revolutionary" as he's called here is one of the most admirable humans in history. Check him out if you're interested in Burkina Faso.
Gerhard Thiel
Perhaps, but he was creating a place and ambient which would've made Burkinabe people of today deserve it.
c fedyszyn Maybe read about Sankara before you start slandering him with the "millions" murdered.
Normal Person definitely Sankara is one of the greatest icons in Africa and his ideas were way before his time. Him and Lumumba from Congo
He was killed by CIA.
Too bad he got into power the same way every other Marxist got into power. By violent overthrow of the previous regime.
At the end that really was an intense moment of transition
+King Tapyrr II LOL yeah, he says that in the end xD
+Mapattack Talking about such transitions.

No oil? Looks like America will not be bring Burkina Faso freedom and democracy anytime soon
I'm certain the people are so depressed about that
(sarcasm)
+Aviation lord lol typical brain dead commie
Another dumbass who believes in conspiracy theories
+Aviation lord It's a shame :Y
Ryan Herich Go to the Middle East and say that America fought for peace, not for oil and see what your first reaction is.
Thomas Sankara was a brilliant leader. Hell, along with Red Rosa, he's one of the few that even Tankies like.
Frankly, Sankara was incredible. He prioritized Woman's rights. He banned female genitalia Mutilation, Forced Marriage, Polygamy, and lived in realitive squalor; donating much of his profits to the poor, taking only what he needed. He worked with the people, and helped the poor.
A brilliant figure.
Sankara was a tankie. Marxist Leninist to the core. He opposed Anarchism too.
Aman thank god he didn’t go the anarchist route
@@Zhicano agreed.
@@Zhicano yeah because marxist leninism is a stable system that NEVER just reverts back to capitalism
@@Zhicano why?
Forget the whip, lets all do the ouagadougou.
+Andrew Smith LOL.
+Geography Now for larger countries ( those with populations greater than 100 million like China, India, US etc) could you split the video into parts, since there's a lot of ground to be covered in those videos.
+Vaishnavi Suresh I agree
+Vaishnavi Suresh No, because Brazil's already been made, and it's 200 million in pop, and it would be at least unfair :p
+Gibran Rosa he could make the videos longer than usual
UPDATE: Oh great, literally ONE day after I uploaded this video Burkina Faso JUST experienced a military coup and the interim leaders have been detained RIGHT before elections.
Come on Burkina Faso, you couldn't even wait ONE DAY to make my video outdated in information. Thanks
+Geography Now Oh that sucks. They were SO close to having an election, too. You're right, though ... ONE day afterwards?! Still, thanks for getting me interested in these topics. I saw this story online today and thought "I JUST learned about this yesterday!", thanks to you. :D
+Geography Now That's what you were talking about after the memory card filled up, right???? ;)
Conspiracy theory time, this video was the signal to start the military coup! :P
You had 1 job, Burkina. But wait....what if PAUL IS THE LEADER OF BURKINA FASO?!!!1!
The Bay id be up for that, long live King Paul!!!
Thomas Sankara was actually a good dude who really helped the country a lot, before being assassinated.
Love from Libya To Burkina faso 🇱🇾 ❤ 🇧🇫
I was so looking forward to Burkina Faso because Thomas Sankara is one of my heroes. He is like the West African version of Patrice Lumumba (another hero of mine). I suggest that anyone interested in great revolutionaries read (or research) up on Thomas Sankara. He was a champion of the poor and his life was living proof of that.
Did he ever kill any innocent people directly or indirectly?
Golon Wes No he helped lead a revolution made for by the people
@@hermeticxhaote4723 Well, he did a coup, (supported by the vast mayority of the people) so maybe yes, but he wasn't authoritarian. A good leader without a doubt
such a shame he died, he was such a good person
Thomas Sankara. Great guy.
Vive Sankara!
Exactly
Vive Sankara! Слава Санкаре! Fittingly, in Finnish, the word ”Sankari” means: ”Hero” 🇧🇫.

Is anyone else surprised how Paul hadn't got 200,000 subs yet but creates awesome videos every time :)
+Jacon170 The channel is growing by approx 5,000 subs per week but whilst some channels have millions of subs only a small percentage watch all the videos, especially within the first couple of weeks. However, I'd estimate at least 80% of subs to this channel watch the videos within days of them being uploaded so whilst the numbers aren't huge the fan base is loyal, which IMO counts for more.
Im always waiting to watch new episodes
I was a sub since 3000 and that was like 4 months ago so this channel has grown incredibly fast
+Jacon170 the best channels don't always have the most subs.
+Jacon170 I subscribed after finishing this video. Hadn't seen this guy before but he has style.
Proud to be African! Proud to be Burkinabé! La Patrie ou la mort nous vaincrons✊🏾
💪🏿💪🏿
Of course blaise was run away during 30 and 31 October burkidi
I'm Burkinabé and I found your video quite accurate. A few precisions tho.. Mandeka and Bambara are almost the same. it's a langage spoken in the West of Burkina, in Mali, Ivory Coast, Guinea... with little variation depending on the region. And football (wich you call soccer) is still the most popular sport by far. no one watches rugby over here. The political transition was troubled by a military coup that lasted only two weeks after the people and most of the army opposed to it. so the elections were held in December instead of November, and won by Roch Kabore, a former parliament speaker.
Just googled Thomas Sankara... I don't know their history but at first, he looks like a great man who tried to be "of the people, by the people and for the people"... Is my first impression false? I'd love to have few comments from someone who is from Burkina Faso
One of the greatest and honest leader ever but the French killed him because he was helping the people out of neo colonialism
He lead a bloodless coup and did everything he could to reverse French colonialism
Every African know the story
Flags:
Red usually = blood
Green usually = agriculture/nature
Xander Smith blue: oceans white: peace
+Lebanon So Somali flag is ocean and peace?
Ocean definitely. Peace would be ironic tho...
Though in this case it wasn't "blood" specifically, I'm sure that blood was spilled during the revolution but still the red is referring to the revolution as a whole...
Burkina Faso, you did well this time!
@@theramendutchman the red color is important for us more than the green and gold star in the middle of our flag it represents our blood that each burkinabe pour for our freedom u know
Holy schnikes! Both the traditional and modern architecture in Burkina Faso is ridiculously cool. I'd love a house painted with that zigzaggy geometrical pattern.
The Sindou rock pillars and the hump-shaped formations look curiously like the hoodoos and "big round red rocks" found in parts of southern Alberta.
Triple imbecile our architecture is different from the traditional it has signification for us and we are the only person who can say u stranger what it means so u're the ridiculous in this situation😒😒
Dont say Holy only God is Holy
Can't wait for Ghana and Nigeria! Love, love your channel!
New video!!! Paul your channel is the best on youtube, you and GeographyHub should totally collaborate
That guy just started that new channel, why should he work with him? I like this channel more

You are an amazing youtuber and I just wanted to say thank you for doing this. I could easily tell that these video's take incredibly long to create and as a History/Geography fanatic just wanted to show you how much I love this.
I AM ALWAYS SO AMAZED BY YOUR WORK.
I have been subscribed to this channel for quite some time (since the Belgium video, if I remember correctly.) and I can honestly with my hand on my heart say I've never been this interested in Geography. My own Geography teacher besides that is a living bedtime story for my long class naps, so I am incredibly thankful that everyone behind Geography Now! boozed my interest in this subject! Thank you. :D
I thought my connection went out when the video blacked out near the end.
An American that doesn't completely slaughter french pronunciation... +1
Paul! One of your videos was shown in front my Importing/Exporting and Trading college class! Now I'm hooked to your videos! So far the only thing useful to come from that class haha.

+Fedejr712 Don't forget the "Bobo" tribe that also means dummy in Argentina.
+Geography Now Mr. Paul Sir, I thank you very much for all your videos. Keep up the great work.
Yet another great video! keep up the great work Paul! You and CGPGrey are probably my favorite youtubers - you teach important information in an amusing way that can keep people interested!
Holy crap, the quality really improved from even the last video! It's really cool to see your development as a video maker as this series goes on :)
I am Brazilian and always accompany these videos, I love geography and that way is even better !!
Just found this channel. I love geography and was really searching for a good channel. I'm quite pleased.
Great video, you mention a lot of thing I didn't know and a lot of things that I didn't even know I didn't know… However, you should have highlighted the great paper Sankara played in Burkina Faso. Seriously, he was one of the best leaders in the history of humanity. I understand that this is geography, not history, but seriously, you should have mentioned at least some of his great actions for that country.
But he didn't mention the fact that Sankara put our natural juice and traditional clothes in international markets
And he started to work with Russia and left France this is some of the reasons that blaise compaoré collaborate with French and kill him
It's so criminal to do it to your best friend
I forgot French is general language but many persons speak English too only in the city
Amazing video! I liked the fact that you really went deeper into the ethnic groups a bit more. Best video so far in my opinion(besides Bandiaterra)
yeah mate
He called them tribes. Bad idea.
Such an intelligent man. I hated geography at school but now I wish you were my teacher. Just can't stop watching and learn!!!¡
The architecture looks amazing! I'd like to visit someday.
Agree
The editing keeps getting better and better!
The quality of the videos has improven so much! Maybe when he's half-way trough the list, he could re-master some of the bigger Names for each letter (Argentina, Austria, Brazil, and so on...) I know is a lot to ask, and it would be a long video, but he could do 1 minute per nation or something like that AND IT WOULD BE REALLY AWESOME!
+SuperQuiMan Definately Agree! So much production improvement since the Afgahnistan video. Afgahnistan could definately do with a remake, or an update, because there is so much to know about that amazing country. Even though the production quality of that video may not have been as good, it set out the lay out and standard for all the following vids. So it was still a great start, but yes, totally do remakes and updates. Love this channel.
+SuperQuiMan He did Brazil like 2 weeks ago, that doesn't need a remaster, well not for a long while anyway
+Tree I do hope he waits with the remakes until after he is done with all countries.
Harry Jamieson It's hypotethical, plus, he would do it at the half of the country list, not right now
Damn you should see him now
am I the only one really interested in the political systems of each country too?
+Aang Darkway You are not the only one, its interesting to see how other countries are ruled. But I think my own government has something to do with that. (I'm belgian.) Sooooo, yeah ;p
I am also very interested.
That's my favorite part of these videos.

+Aang Darkway nope I am interested too
I am glad that you are back Barb.
I hope your dad is doing well and that you are feeling ok after everything, and I like fhe episode btw :)

Dude Burkino Faso is a majority Muslim country so if your gonna insult your cousins In west Africa allah is not gonna be happy
So, unofficially, Burkina Faso’s flag could also represent its physical features, as follows:
🟥Red = The Sahel Region (North; red dirt).
🟩Green = The forest region (South).
⭐️Yellow Star = The gold that’s mined in the
country.

In future go into detail about the ancient history like the first humans in the area and historical kingdoms. I wanna learn more about the Mossi kingdom. I'm just afraid he will skip the history of African or south America nations but talk about the Romans in Italy or the Celts in Britain and barely mention the Songhai of Mali or the Nubians of Egypt and Sudan.

6 children on average... Jesus
Yeh and that's why this country is piss poor .If you can't feed it don't make it
+H. Leo actually it is probably because of deep religious beliefs that shame contraceptives. It's a serious problem in third world country's that lead to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in some countrys. Of course there's also the problem with a culture among young people that doesn't care about other people if they know they're gonna die anyways. But that is a different problem.
+Ryan0556 Nigeria and Somalia has 7 children on average
+RedBaron223 it's a problem that exists in every poverty stricken society.

Hey Barby,
I watched every video of you from the first one till the one about Bulgaria in 2 days and I love them all.I am going to do a important english presentation in 5/6 weeks (I live in germany) and I think that your channel is a good topic for it.So here is my question:
Can I use screenshots from the videos for the presentation? There are only two teachers in front of me and it would make it much easier.
Looking forward to new videos of you (especially germany and turkey) and just stay as you are now.I already learned a lot :D

Great Video...My mother is from Burkina Faso and loved the information.
Does the flag represent the country's geography?:
red desert in the north, green forest in the south, and the big capital city in the middle
No the flag represent our identity Red for each burkinabe's blood pour for our freedom green for the forests and gold star for our treasure such as gold zinc ...
