A short “Piano for Elephants” improvised arrangement I made for Spy, Kanta, Namwan and Kat to play during their favorite afternoon snack of yams. Recorded in the mountains of Kanchanaburi, Thailand on a FEURICH 122 upright piano.

My favorite part of these videos is when the elephants' ears immediately start flapping when the piano starts. You know they love the sound

I like how one of them thought it was done and trumpeted before he played the final chord. Shows how perceptive and smart they are, detecting a finality in the music rather than just waiting for the pretty sounds to stop.

Omg my heart completely melted when that one elephant started trumpeting at the end, realized the song wasn’t over yet so stopped, and then trumpeted again when the music ended.

There is something so special about playing music for animals! It's one of the few things humans have added that can be appreciated by all not only us.

I once read that when elephants flap their ears they're expressing excitement or happiness. It's amazing how he starts playing and all of them start flapping their ears and continue to do so throughout the piece.

@pablo jimenez this isn't in a random forest, it's at an elephant reserve, they're provided with food daily. If you watch a few of these vids it's very clear they're there for the music and company, not the food.

Very fitting choice for this setting. The Pastoral was the first work of classical music I ever properly listened to, some 40+ years ago. Hearing excerpts being played to a group of elephants in the wild feels appropriate. They could trample you and the piano to smithereens but, no, they'd prefer to line up patiently and quietly as a dignified respectful audience.
They gave it four trunks up.

I think the elephants on the left are clearly the more discerning concertgoers. The other two are clearly there for the "nuts and popcorn"! Mum appears to be telling them to keep quiet at around 4.45. Great trumpet applause at the end. Though one does wonder whether the Pastoral was an easy listening event for them and whether the 5th might have been more of a challenge? Paul may have had some of the 'nuts' thrown his way if he had tried the 5th.
