    This is a very insightful podcast for diverse kinds of people including young agri-entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers as well as agri-students. But this protected cultivation will only be profitable if there is a different market and customers for the produce of greenhouse, as the cost of cultivation is higher in protected cultivation than open field cultivation.

    Wow. Highly informative, knowledgeable podcast. Want to know from Mr Anand - 1. How to contact you? 2. What is your suggestion to change the entire traditional crop (rice or wheat as normally people grow)to CASH crops of a say one village or 3-4 villages with approx 100-500 acres of land assuring them of minimum return every year so that they will change with time? Means after doing Hydroponic they will not go for traditional crops as people are apprehensive.

    See China and other countries practising protected cultivation is because nature doesn’t support them the way it does India. Leaving the land holding and other economical factors aside If we only discuss the need of hydroponics and soil less agriculture in India it seems to miss a strong why? Half of India has tropical climate where installing a protected structure is foolish because a 15-20 % increase in production will not be able to equate the expenses in installing proceed cultivation unit. As far as north is concerned states like HR PB RJ UP cash and grain crops are popular and HP JK UK and some stars of north east are into fruit production. The primary agenda of NVPH is to maintain temperatures and sun we neither have extreme climates nor bad sun in at least half of the country so where there’s a need. Rest of the country is away from crops supported in a Polyhouse. See people not directly engaged in farming are commenting on its future. Me being a commercial vegetable grower sees Polyhouse and other structures as a total waste of money. In India we need to educate the farmer on how he/ she can make maximum from what they have. Giving deeper inside into their existing crop systems, for example take vegetables, here the farmer needs to know where to source plants from, proper soil preparation, mulching techniques, transplantation, fertigation in different stages of plant, fruit picking dynamics, fergation after fruit picking, staking, grading sorting understanding market prices when to grow what to grow and how to sell. Farmers need to understand pest resistance and fungal infestation of soil and all these aspects are also involved with protected cultivation eve. In hydroponics we need to solarise cocopeat. AI is going to play a vital role in weather prediction so it’s important to address the question right.

    • @AgriTalkbyAgriplast
      @AgriTalkbyAgriplast  Před 3 měsíci

      Weather has become erratic in India and especially when we talk of Punjab , HR , Up etc temperature in summer goes upto 45 and in winter comes down to 3-5c .
      Also the soil on the states of Punjab and Haryana is becoming poor because of excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides. Also soil moisture level is going up because of flood irrigation .
      Polyhouse are called Tropical greenhouse . It is meant to use in tropical climate. Looking the way climate is changing Protected cultivation is the way forward. Having almost same or more land under cultivation when compared to China , why are we still not able to meet the production numbers . What is the % of export from India ? How about the monsoon and rainy season and peak summers ? To flatten the price curve and make sure a consistent supply in the market we will need more lands to come under protected cultivation in India

    • @AgriTalkbyAgriplast
      @AgriTalkbyAgriplast  Před 3 měsíci

      Coming to hydroponics, A report has been published by FAO saying that 50% of top soil has already been degraded. Also hydroponics helps you in giving precise fertigation to the plants . Always there's less buffer zone. Secondly you are not worried about soil borne disease when you grow hydropnically. The major advantage of growing in hydroponics is that it prevents you from heavy metal present in soil in some parts of India .
      India might not be ready today for hydroponics but future belongs to it

    • @ravinsharma3951
      @ravinsharma3951 Před 2 měsíci +5

      Well talking HR PB UP they are not vegetable growing states because they are extremely short on farm labour and as far as Polyhouse is concerned name me one tropical country which uses Polyhouse on large scale as in more than 50% of the land is under protected cultivation. See Polyhouse and protected cultivation is required for areas with harsh climates like in Europe Israel UAE etc where climates don’t support horticulture. Well flood irrigation can be tackled with drip irrigation and plastic mulching. So all in all putting in money in a Polyhouse is like raising funds for a startup which has no control over their product price. The problem is the cost of production, we normal high tech farmers produce around 50 tons of tomatoes on an average at 4 inr/kg with Polyhouse your cost will be at 12 inr and the average cost of tomatoes seldomly goes over 10. My point here is to make our farmers stronger in our existing system and not telling them why put in more money which they don’t have.

    • @ravinsharma3951
      @ravinsharma3951 Před 2 měsíci +7

      Volume of exports in India are lesser because of our consumption China is a completely non vegetarian country so their vegetables are mostly exported, additionally the export lobby in India is not very strong.
      Coming to hydroponics
      Hydroponics is the lamest solution to India problems in agriculture, we have land, water, climate, sun why do we need it. A hydroponic protected unit costs 1.25 cr at least for an acre where is the farmer going to go and what do you grow their lettuce puckchoy kale and stuff we Indians don’t eat regularly the only benefit in hydroponics is in training and selling equipment and providing consultancy which you people are doing so please stop wrongly influencing the young to be farmers they any ways know very poorly about the topic.
