Exactly!
@@drgarylinkovI just have a quick question. What is your opinion on lip threading (not for lifting but plumping) vs filler? I've recently discovered it, and I thought I was pretty interesting considering that filler has migration and vascular oclusion issues. I've tried looking it up but I mostly get results on barbed pdo lip lifts.
@@Chris-ev3nq I’m not aware of any studies on it and none of my colleagues / friends are doing it. Worry is always deep scar tissue formation.
@@drgarylinkov Is that a common problem with thread lifts in general?
@@Chris-ev3nq on one hand the scarring is what’s creating the longer term lift, sometimes referred to as “generating collagen”, but it can also become a problem, especially in a tight space like the lips.
I mean, beyond not being morally okay, not telling a patient about potential risks means they cannot give informed consent. I certainly hope they were informed in some manner off camera.
Probably in the forms they skimmed through and signed.
I agree with you here for sure
@@Steve-sp4rx that’s not consent, tho-consent requires both verbally consenting the patient (including a risks discussion) as well the paper consent form, and answering questions is part of that process.
@@GodIsHoly1 That is factually incorrect and has been debunked many times across mainstream and social media spaces.
This. Whenever I have any medical procedures, or even take some medication I am given information about what could go wrong, why it’s being suggested, what the very rare but worst case scenario risks are, and also the benefits and purpose of each option (even if the option is: take antibiotics for this infection or get sicker and need IV antibiotics! It needs to be explained and a patient needs to choose).
I’m so grateful that it is standard here and the surgeons I have spoken to over the years have basically said they are at risk of legal issues if they don’t explain it and make sure I totally understand.
I really want to take this doctor on date , his way of talking is so interesting and soothing
You’ll have to ask my wife for permission 😜
@@drgarylinkov dudeeeee I’m sorry didn’t know you’d read the comment I’m really sorry
@@Asas_404 shit 😂
@@olga4072 how can I delete it I’m so embarrassed
Haha don't be embarrassed it's a compliment to him :) He is very personable.
3:02 "If Buzzfeed chose to work with him, he must be pretty good" I think you give Buzzfeed too much credit! 😂
The Doctor was too cocky IMO and kept the intricacies of the procedure too abstract. They seemed disappointed with the outcome, I think they were expecting more dramatic results especially since you can see one of them had said they wanted Kylie Jemner lips on the consultation form
Love his realism and relatability!👌 On point!
To get such a dramatic result they would need another syringe or 2...
Her friends would have laughed at her. Kylie is trying to look ethnic. She used to be the whitest white girl.
@@Joshow313 I have tiny lips and always only use less than half. I come back within 3 months for topper and it's actually wasteful
@@palladium607 I totally get it. I get fillers for my eyes. I use 1 full syringe but honestly can use a little more but don’t want to waste a second syringe!
How did these girls NOT understand the process before they received the surgery? Did the surgeon not explain everything?
Doubt he’s a surgeon
I imagine they're asking the questions more for the audience of the video than themselves.
hes 100000% not a surgeon, injections arent surgery:)
He looks like he’s probably a dermatologist
@@shan22777 Dr. Linkov is a surgeon and does injectables. Your comment makes no sense.
Wow their lips still look so thin. I can’t believe they a paid a Beverly Hills price tag for such little results.
That what I was thinking not much difference between the results I get from a lip plumper lipstick gloss
You have to go little at a time or else it will look crazy and overdone especially with swelling. Kylie Jenner didn’t just go from tiny to big in a day
Luckily buzzfeed paid for it😝
Agreed
I believe with filler, how much filler that can be used depends on the surface area there is to start with. In addition, a good injector will not use large amounts at once. Especially, for their first time getting filler.
I had lip filler by a plastic surgeon in Boston and they hit a nerve. It was a traumatic experience for me as I was deformed for months. Thank you for being up front about this being a possibility. I wish more doctors were like you!
Would you ever get them again?
The lip filler
Omggg so sorry this happened to you
omg has it gotten better?
Wow. Bless your heart. Hope you are all good now
I remember watching this Buzzfeed video years ago while I was in nursing school. Now that I’m a nurse injector, it makes me so irritated to watch this… educated patients are good patients! Imagine if they developed a VO after that guy said it’s safe only if I do it. And that injection technique, geez… I’m getting heated 🥲
Thank you so much for putting videos out like this, to help properly educate people!
Same
I was positively surprised he mentioned that lines and the lip corner pointing downwards needing to be addressed BEFORE doing lip filler. Of course it's her decision but I really think that first of all, the difference in the result was basically miniscule but second of all, if it was done properly, it wouldn't have made her look more flattering due to the shape with those lines. I think if she had something done to that and a lip lift she could have had a much more satisfying and not really much more invasive result.
I feel like his techniques and his attitude is so outdated. The blond girl had really thin lips and instead of opening them and slightly raise them, and actually really adding some fullness to her lips, he basically enhanced the border of a lip and added volume to the area above the lip which made it weird looking and even worse. All this volume in the border and around the lips "closed" the inside of the lips and hid it. Gosh, how much i hate those old fashion injections when they couldn't inject actual lips when they supposedly trying to enhance the lip, the pink part of the lip.
She's looks like she just put on some lipliner, lol
@@zuzanazuscinova5209 Agreed: time and money poorly spent.
The injector is everything, even more than the product they use. It truly is an art.
I just noticed something about you doc. You seem actually interested in the field of cosmetic surgery. I mean not just passionately, but I get the feeling you enjoy the science behind it all. I have great doctors that took me a good deal amount of time to find here in the Phoenix, Arizona area. They keep up to date, but there is a difference between a physician who is great and one that is also innovative. Cheers!
Thanks!
Hey! I’ve been looking for some good doctors in the Phoenix area as well, do you mind sharing their information? Thanks!
I would love to see how you would do it differently had they gone to you. It would be so interesting to see how different the process and the results would be.
You want bigger, fuller lips ... go up to the doorman at your local club and tell him he's a wanker...! HA HA HA HA HA
I thought about this buzzfeed video so much because in my opinion the doctor didn't do a good job and finally somebody shines a light on this!!
👍🏼
The results were pretty much “meh” and I wonder if Buzzfeed didn’t choose these patients/the doctor to make their story a negative on lip fillers as the experience and underwhelming results seem in no way typical.
Nothing wrong with thin lips, most often it suits the rest of their features 🤔
That's exactly what I was thinking. We have facial features based largely on our racial backgrounds. It's best to just leave our face the way nature made it except if there's deformity or if we had an accident.
Absolutely. They’re both very pretty girls. The one with the downturned mouth needed some stiff filler under the corners of her mouth to support them. I bet that would have made a huge difference.
My doctor didn't use anesthetic or numbing cream because "it doesn't hurt that much". It hurt so bad, I literally wouldn't want my biggest enemy to feel that pain.
From showing which facial nerves are affected by the local blocks to explaining the trick behind skin shaking, you include the perfect amount of technical details while keeping it simple enough for a lay person to understand. Superb!
Also, I love how the abbreviation for the numbing agent is 'BLT' 🤣
I could listen to you all day. Your clients must adore you! What a great personality, bed side manner and with so much caring. Thanks for sharing your experience and insight with so much heart.
Thanks for watching!
Yeah he’s a lovely Dr.
I'm a newly certified injector (Respiratory Therapist by day) and I found I was saying a lot of the things you were saying before you said them! I want my clients to be as informed as possible. I feel this other doctor dumbed it down much more than he should have.
Wow he's such a good doctor, knowledgeable, calm, and compassionate. That is HARD to find nowadays.
Didn’t expect to watch the whole video but I lowkey grew a crush on the doctor 😂 love how you explained everything
I think their lips looked better before. With lip filler, it so often doesn't look right. I think unless you have lopsided lips that need balance or extremely thin lips that it will often look worse than what you already have. Sad because I'd love thicker lips myself.
I think their lips look better after but they could have had more dramatic results, but sometimes you gotta build it up over time
Not true. I have rather full lips but they got wrinkly over the years. A bit of suitable filler helps plump them up and of cos correct some existing asymmetry and they look amazing. Especially after my recent lip lush (very natural tattoo) after the filler has settled down… loving my lips right now and got many compliments. So, I think getting a really trustworthy injector and doing own research is extremely crucial. Overdone lips that look like duck bill or sausages are indeed awful.
0:50 I agree 100%. In the age of social media and the vast amounts of "Influencer's", too many people think that they need to look just like "insert whatever influencer/celebrity".
We need to start accepting ourselves and others for what we are.
Karen?
@Ayousha Ahmed it must hurt to be you
I never knew that filler from the lip can migrate, and cause blindness! That is precisely why I opted for a surgical rhinoplasty vs. filler...I was aware that fill from the nose can migrate, and with my luck, I felt like actual surgery (open approach with septal graft to life the tip) was a safer option...thank you for this very informative video!
Beauty or risk of blindness? LOL damn it just doesnt seem worth it to me
This video is so helpful because I feel like the video he’s critiquing had those same issues and knowing the proper way really open my eyes
Doctor, your patients are very fortunate as you give a comprehensive and detailed understanding of the procedures and understanding of ramifications of the issues addressed.
I truly would appreciate finding a doctor with the same level of willingness to provide detailed information/education to the patient that you are providing in your video. 💋
it upsets me how doctors do not take the time to truly inform and explain everything to their patients. We as patients need to advocate for ourselves and make sure we have a provider that is willing to answer all our questions and give us all the info. I appreciate you doing this video and wish i could go to see you next time i get filler, but im in Canada (:
If I ever want to get my lips done, you would be my doctor. Thanks for explaining everything in so much detail. 💟💛💚💚
My pleasure. Thank you.
Dr.Gary, my favorite things about you are: You inform the patient of risks, and you’re ETHICAL. ❤️ P.S.-You’re a very kind man as well. My husband’s an M.D. and he possesses the same qualities.
I really like this doctor he seems so experiend and honest and calm. I really like this about him I wish we had doctors like him here in germany
They were expecting much more noticeable results
It’s worth a trip to NY just to see this man! He’s so calm and I’d trust him
I’m so glad you always talk about this in a body-positive way, like when you said the bit about feeling comfortable in our own skin/not being influenced into making changes because of what we see on social media. That makes your videos easy to watch without being concerned I’m going to start feeling less-than when I see people talking bad about their lips or whatever it is and they look like mine
Love the way you explain things👍 very entertaining!
Dr. Gary, thank you for your professional input on the elaborate procedure on lip injections. You’re amazing and glad to view your videos.
So happy I found you. Getting Botox for the first time at the end of this month and was always curious about facial procedures.
I live in PA....I would DEFINITELY take the trip to NY to get my lips done if I could have this doctor and if I had the $$! He seems like such an amazing doctor!
Recreating the philtrum has always been a challenge. Especially for those surgeons trying to repair/revise a cleft lip.
I’m no pro, nor have I gotten filler but this looked rough. I had MRSA on my lip 2 decades ago and that side of my lip loss there was great. Now being 50, it’s starting to bother me more. I’m going to a reputable plastic surgeon next week. I’m hoping there’s something that can be done.
Thanks for your videos.
Did you ever go visit with the surgeon?
You look 2 decades younger than 50
@@KAWASAKlBLAZIN right ?!
U r beautiful seriously
How did it go?
I love your videos…Please keep them coming!
I feel like if I came to you with questions about my chin twaddle ...you would be honest and sincere with your advice. Your voice is soothing and informative
Very informative, keep it up!
I found a facial plastic surgeon who filled my lips just enough to counter my age lines from years of pursing my lips. When I went back for follow up and I wanted more due to lip greed, he told me no. I love that he will tell me no. I’m so happy with my lips, as no one can really tell ( except for the first few days after!), but I can tell with how much smoother my lip products go on.
The nerve block changes the ability to move the mouth normal and in my opinion could affect the end result .
I’ve been enjoying your videos a lot! Very informative and entertaining!
Thank you!

I don’t know anything about plastic surgery, but I appreciate your professionalism and honesty. I feel you are a source I can rely on for this kind of information. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Wow so much info! Thanks for sharing 😊
Dr. Linkov you are so respectful. I did not get any tweaks. Your patients are so lucky
I love how you explain everything
Thank you for this video. Watching the original video, I didn't know some of the things that could have been done differently by the other surgeon. It really helps me to know what to look for if I decide to get procedures done in the future! Thank you.
Thank you! Wow, would love to be your patient. What a bedside manners! Just got fillers for the first time this year and let me tell you, not even half of what you explained here was discussed in my consultation. I didn't went the cheap route either, my first appointment was $1,150 in fillers alone. I really need to find a better solution. 😩
Happy to chat! Info in bio.
How interesting to hear this thoroughly explained!
This video was very informative. Ive been wanting lip fillers but worried about getting the “duck lip” look but now I feel a bit more knowledgeable and will go to my plastic surgeon knowing a bit more about the procedure. Thank you !!
Thanks for informing people of risks and different approaches for achieving desired results.
That was very educational. I didn't know getting lip injections was so involved.
Hearing you describe your process and how you make sure your patients know all the risks and ask them during the procedure if that is how they want it makes me certain that if I ever get any lip procedure, I’m coming to you.
Great video! Thank you for all the great info .
I recently came across your channel and I love it! I was wondering what your opinion is on dentists offering Botox now a days not only for TMJ issues but also for aesthetics.
It amazes me you still have time to do those videos.... incredible...
I would agree that images that we're shown and exposed to influence how we feel about our body image. I often don't feel beautiful, or even acceptable at times. I'm hoping to get bariatric surgery, not only for the health benefits and the ability to be more active, but also to just feel normal. I feel like an embarrassment to my family often, and I'm tired of that. I know that there's a huge chance that I will need skin removal, some light liposuction, and possibly breast reconstruction later on due to the sagging after weight loss, but it sounds better than staying the way I am currently. Thanks for the videos, they're very informative!
I love your content very educational. Thank you for sharing Dr.
Great video 👍, thanks 🙏
I need to have my lip filler done by you! I had a similar experience where the doctor used the whole cc and did not stop till the very end... I felt she was making my lips how she wanted it, and I had no say... really scary. I also thought she was super aggressive, which resulted in significant bruising!!!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions; I always enjoy watching your videos! :)
Excellent point about lip fillers not being risk free! I think if people know all the ways they can sabotage their health by being aware that lip fillers are not inoffensive, it helps them to revise their objectives to more realistic ones. Of course, since fillers are priced by volume, there are probably lots of surgeons who would rather you didn't do that. That might be what's going on in this video.
Love your channel!
Thanks!
Props to this guy and all doctors for real how do u remember all of this !!! 🤯🤯
It aged the first girl for sure!
my lip injections were an amazing experience, i got juvederm ultra plus and with only 2 injections 1 year apart, my super thin top lip is now larger even though its been 3 years since i had any work done!! not as big as they were but mine are 100% not the same as they were, and i am HAPPY about it!!! Ive been told this is rare with only 2 times, but im lucky haha. In canada they only use the topical numbing cream, im shocked this dude used needles for numbing
My first time getting fillers they used local anesthesia. My second time I also got the juvederm ultra plus the numbing was inside the needle. Much better experience the second time and it lasted so much longer!
Your videos are very enjoyable to watch 🙂 in case of those girls I’m not sure if the results are worth the pain. The smaller the lips to start with, the more difficult it is to achieve that plump effect without getting duck or sausage lips. They’re both very pretty though!!
Agreed!
Yes, to get a nice result from filler you already need big lips, so what's the point lol
Duck sausage sounds good lol
I love my lip filler. Done by a board certified plastic surgeon (Wash.U, in STL ♥️ Grateful to work for them)... But if anyone tells you it doesn’t hurt- they are lying. LOL. The actual injections, when done correctly & with BLT- that’s easy-peasy. But dang when that sensation comes back & the swelling increases a bit- haha... pretty uncomfortable. But worth it to me.
Love your videos very informative.
Thanks! I did my fellowship in facial plastics at WashU 😉
The shaking of the lip stuff you explain also just helped me realize why I pinch myself near where it hurts when I accidentally cut or bruise myself. 😂
Doc…from a patient perspective, using only topical anesthetic still made the procedure EXTREMELY painful. My last round of injections which was 9 days ago, she did a lidocaine block and WHAT A RELIEF! I felt ZERO pain! The block injections hurt, but still not nearly as bad as previous lip injections without the block.
I really appreciated your video Dr. Gary. I’ve had lip filler done from a few different injectors, each one has ‘their’ way of doing filler and they’re all convinced it’s the best way 😂. Although this Dr. had a very old fashioned way of doing filler, too bad he doesn’t keep up with his training.
One way I check an injector is to look at the receptionists and support staff at the clinic. If they’re all sporting sausage lips or duck lips, or have frozen Botox faces with Spock eyebrows I go elsewhere. Although I have had Botox and fillers done in the past by people who looked scary fake and the result was completely natural 😂 I guess they’re just good at giving a client what they want.
I often get a Botox lip flip instead of fillers, as it gives such a nice look to the lips - I hadn’t thought of getting lip lift surgery, but now that I’ve seen your videos I may consider it in the future!! 🥰❤️
Arnica for the bruising helps tremendously
Thank you Dr Gary that you are honest with your patients. These young girls should just leave their lips alone.
You have such a calming presence! Super informative video :)
Question - you mentioned saving part of the filler for the follow-up appt. Some doctors have said they refuse to do this because they can't ensure sterility of the remaining filler weeks later. How can this be done in a safe manner?
I save it for 2 weeks at room temperature and haven’t had any issues with sterility. The key is to change the needle right away after the initial injection.
I love you Dr Gary !
I have no interest in getting any plastic surgery done (no judgement to anyone who does just don't have the urge personally)... but even though I'm not interested I LOVE watching your videos, there is something to soothing about them and the way you break down the technical and anatomical aspects is so interesting and informative
I have no interest in getting plastic surgery but I have been binge watching his videos because they are interesting and informative
Wonderful doctor and person
I've had two syringes put in...one with each visit, because I had a super non-existent top lip. It was painful for me, they did not numb me (and I'm glad they didn't)... they just used a topical. but I did have a vasovagal response the first time. The second time almost but I mentally got myself better prepared. It is painful especially around the cupids bow; it feels like it's hitting a nerve and that's when I really struggle. My doctor knows I struggle so he does the entire syringe as quick as possible. They do look better and I like the way lipstick looks on me now. To me it's completely worth it and I think I'll just keep getting it done every year
Very fascinating once again Dr. Being much older I see young women are not always helped to give informed consent. I'd love to see your comments on some folk who've had the lip lift surgery, as a comparison.
Thanks for the clarification on fillers! I’ll stick to lip plumpers
I used to have anorexia and bulimia plus an opiate addiction ever since the mid 1990’s. I’m blessed with young looks but my teeth are artificial (I’m having dentures). My face would look even better, in my opinion, if I got more volume into my lips. It’s such an uncomplicated procedure and easy fix. So why not? I’m taking good care of myself in other ways such as skincare and diets and I am several years sober now, and it would be one way to treat myself and celebrate my sobriety.
I haven’t done anything else in the ways of plastic surgery.
I have no plan to get plastic surgery but love watching your videos.
Thanks! We won’t hold that against you 🤣
I wish I’d seen this video earlier. I got fillers today and the doctor was done in 10 minutes, didn’t explain anything, talked about how awesome he was and I was out the door. Didn’t even mention aftercare.
I couldn’t agree more regarding the use of a nerve blocker. I’ve had filler without Lidocaine (before they thought of that), with Lidocaine, and using topical numbing cream. The topical numbing cream injections have been the least painful. I actually purchased my own numbing cream through a tattoo artist so that I can provide it if an injector doesn’t have it available.
I would definitely come see this doctor for my treatment
My God I can’t get over the fact that he looks 16!!!
😅
who?
As a 59 yrs old that has smoked I may get filler to not have so many lines and maybe add a tiny bit of volume but very glad for not needing much. My eyes look really good and for that I am grateful.
I’m so happy that I’m a black woman born with full lips!!
I’m happy to be a white woman with full lips. I remember when my siblings and I were younger we got made fun of and called fish lips. Now all these people get injections 🤢
@@Kat-qr7hv I'm happy to have full lips too.
Sometimes I don't like how my top lip is bigger than the bottom, but from the front they look nice. :)) Sometimes I wonder how I would look with thinner lips. I prefer having my lips be natural though.
Color has nothing to do with it.
Alot of people have full lips, across all colors.
Wonderful way that you explain the processes. Great calm voice wish you were in southern cal or New Port
Beach area. I would seek you
I cannot stress enough, do your research and make sure you've seen and are comfortable with the results of the person doing your procedure. Understand the risk and decide if they are worth the potential benefits. Be realistic about what can be achieved and do it for the right reasons.
Surgeons always look so clean 🧼
I get my lips done 2x a year because my immune system just eats the filler like it’s nothing but I’ve never used numbing creams as my doctor said they don’t really do much and tbh she’s so great that I only feel discomfort as she pierces my lip. Also never had any bruising but my god are they tender for 2 days after. Feels like they aren’t even your own lol. Never get anything done without prior research, doctor explaining everything and being comfortable with the procedure.
His mayo stand "desk" is everything hahah
I do really hope he went over the risks & informed them more about the procedure off camera. I have 3 syringes in my lips & my consultation was much longer & much more information than this. I love my lips & I’m not all the way through this video but both these ladies do have smaller lips so I imagine if they’re doing one syringe it won’t be that much different. I love my big lips lol. I’m in NY I’ll have to come see you next time doc.
Also, I always get the topical numbing cream & it works amazingly. Never had any pain. Not in my cheeks either.
Could you please do a video on eyelid surgery? Thank you so much!!
Will add to list.
