Just wanted to give you guys a big thumbs up and a big thank you for a great video. I had the exact same problem with my Deere 185. Your video gave me the confidence to tear the carburetor down, clean it out and put it back together again. The 185 runs like brand new! Thanks again!
I've got the same model John Deere, 185 with the same Kawasaki FC540v but my carb has a sensor on the bottom next to the drain screw. I've been trying to find a new carb but all I can find it the type like your video has. Any suggestions
The mechanic told me the "sensor" you mention is a Fuel Shut-off Solenoid. The solenoid closes to stop gas flow when the key is shut off to prevent backfire. You can buy them through John Deere (around $90), but he said you can also get by without it. He said some folks "cut it off" to get around it. Hope that info helps.

@@billthomas7171 Thank you, I used the Carb without the fuel shut off plugged in and she ran just fine!!
Really helpful - can you post the name of the rebuilt kit that you used for the gaskets? Just started rebuilding my Deere 180 carb
