Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

ALWAYS use non ethanol premium fuel in your small engines!
good luck finding non ethanol fuel anymore
@@rossroedel5280 use the pure gas app. Southerstates is also a good source.
I noticed in the John Deere 175 Operator's Manual it says 10% ethanol fuel is acceptable
@@cdogg1787 ,same as the Badboy zero turn mower too
i always do
The most common demons of small engines are dirty carbs, filters and ethanol! As many have said, excellent video and instructions. Your humble and straightforward approach makes your channel a great one. Subscribed.
You always show (and explain) the details of what you're doing. I makes a big difference. Your videos are always helpful and thoroughly informative. Thanks DonyBoy
The best carburetor video on CZcams. Hands down! I’ve watched them ALL! Was skeptical after leaving the “big name” CZcamsrs to seek such a video.
Excellent Video.
Finally someone showing EACH step, explaining EACH step, it's the reason we watch them.
Excellent video with great close up photography. Thank you
Great video! Clear, concise with excellent camera work. My tractor had the same issues, surging and no power. Run for a couple minutes and stall. I was using regular gas in it and i think that gunked it up. I tried that "mechanic in a bottle" stuff and it helped a bit but it was still stalling and had no power. Cleaned the carb as you showed and viola runs like a top now! Thanks so much!
When watching your videos the word "thorough" comes to mind! Great job!
thanks Carl
Great video! Thnks for taking time to share your expertise! Very educational and thorough carb clean with great camera work! now I can clean my carb with confidence!!! Thanks again!!!!!!
Good job Don. You are always very informative and great video work. You, Bruce Pender and Doublewide6 are my to go to guys when stumped on something. I also recommend your channel to others. Thanks again my friend.- Ray.
Awesome camera work
One of the best instructional video's I've ever seen. Great Job. Thank You
Excellent video tutorial donyboy 73, thank you
Smashing, made a world of a difference :-D. Ive found even if a carb seems spotless it can still be faulty, ive given such carbs a clean and they work fine again, touchy devices.
Great job! Such a calm and measured delivery of the information. I learned a lot🤓
Thanks Don! Excellent video as always!
Wow! Exactly the issue I have. Can’t wait to dive in and fix mine. Great video!
This is one of the best made "how to" videos I've seen, great camera work especially, Thank you.
This is an amazing video, THANK YOU, this is exactly the detail, viewing, and explanation that a GREAT VIDEO should contain!
Thanks a ton for the detail in this video! Saved me a 300 service call to fix a clogged carburetor!!
Wonderful, informative, easy to follow video. I followed every step with the same model John Deere 175 last Spring and it ran much better. This Fall it is giving me problems so I plan to clean the carb again just as Donyboy has shown. Thank you so much for this video!
Having this problem with my JD X380. Its still under warranty, so will have dealer look at it. Thanks for the video. Did a great job explaining and good camera work.
Thanks for making this video
Thanks for a thorough explanation on the Kawasaki carb.I really like mine on my 160H JD. Probably the best engine ever made for these small tractors. Tougher than nails. They use less gas than the Kohler's and Briggs.
Great video as always Don. I had to clean an identical carb recently, it was also on a John Deere but the engine was a water cooled Briggs v-twin. I did everything you did plus the slow running jet as well and it ran perfectly afterwards.
Excellent job on this video. Good pace, good info, good camera work. Thank you.
Just picked up a John Deere 240 today with 46 inch cut the has this exact engine and has this same Kawi engine. Awesome video everything I need to follow to get this all cleaned up
This video was a life saver. My issue was the fuel pump not spraying fuel. There was a crack in my vacuum hose to the fuel pump. Thanks Don!
Great vid. Have exact problem with my 112L. 1984 oldie but goodie. Going to give this a try. Excellent teacher. Thank you for your efforts!
Thank you for posting! Your description was very thorough and complete.
Glad it was helpful!
I am glad to see this video and glad you showed us how to clean the carburetor and reassemble it on the mower. Thanks for sharing this with us and I will remember it for possible work I will have to do on one of my mowers.
you're welcome
Wow. Great video. I didn't even come here to watch this because I was cleaning my carburetor. I had bought a new carburetor and I didn't know how to adjust the screws or where to put the 2 rods. That hook up to it or anything, and you literally answer all my questions just from this one v.ideo Plus you explained everything nice and slow and thoroughly. Perfect video.
Thanks for the video!! I have an old 160 that is a little different but was able to use your video to get it running again like new.
You're the best! Thank you for your videos.
Another great video--information and fun to watch. Thanks Dony!
Great job. Very detailed. Thank you.
Great explanations of each and every step, thanks
Great video. In mine the 2 small jets inside the carb have different size holes so be aware of which one comes from which side. If you reverse them the engine will not run properly.
Very, very good and thorough. I'm recently new to your videos, and you are very clear in your presentations and steps to getting the job done, not to mention the great camera work which makes your videos easy to watch and enjoyable. Thank you.
Good video! I have the same motor on my LX172 and a similar rough running problem. Your video showed me exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing. Ed
Great video! Very clear and to the point. Going to try this today.
I really appreciate your video.. I thought my old Hydro175 was history, until I saw your video. Thanks.
It was great timing for me on this video as I just acquired a jd lx176. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! One of the best how-to videos I've seen.
Thank you for making this video, it was very informative, it was what I was looking for.
Excellent explanation and great clear video! Thanks
Thanks for the tip. I've done all the troubleshooting, now all I have to do is take that carb off and give it a cleaning.
Very helpful, especially using the fuel bowl to clean those jets. Thanks for the helpful information, and Happy Canada Day!
thanks steve
I really appreciate your videos. They're very informative and helpful.
Thank you, very informative!
Woah, Just the video I need. I'm fixing my dad's Commercial Kawasaki 6Hp push Snapper and I need to repeat these steps too. Although it's a bit different, I have a problem that the engine is surging and I have not thoroughly cleaned the carburetor. Thanks DonBoy!
Thanks for a very detailed video I did this to my mower and it work great
An excellent teacher.
Thanks.
it needed cleaned but governor spring was broken and more than likely causing the surging great vid !!
Agree, first thing I noticed was carb spring end missing .
Great job and wonderful explanation.
thanks for the video I have learned a lot from your awesome videos thanks DonyBoy73
Damn, you are good, you explained everything clearly, I need a neighbor like you. Hopefully when I do that to my John Deere, I won't have extra parts left over, lol
LOL!!!.....Yup!!!!
Another very informative video. Thanks!!!!
Very good video, valuable information. Thanks!
Very nice , to the point ,nice details and repair. Thanks
Don, you had me biting at the bit waiting for you to take off the air-mixture screw that you addressed @12:00.
Thank you for this video. My tractor was leaking out fuel from the carburetor and was idling rough. I cleaned it out just like you did and it fixed leak, idle. One of the Jets was clogged. Thank you for saving me some$$.

Thumbs up. Mr. wArren
Awesome, thank you!
Britt's talk funny but they seem to get their points across. Great fun listening to them on this side of the pond.
Great video just what I needed to see
you the man dony
jacob
hey jacob
thank you
Thanks, bro
thanks for the video ...
Great video! My biggest problem is I'll disassemble for cleaning and not find any smoking gun!
Great job Donny, my issue is you using the torch cleaning tips in the bore of a flow rated jet. Wen you do you are putting fine scratches in the metering jets, changing the flow rate,
The bores are flow rated to the carburetor and when you get in to multiple cylinder machines you do not want to disturb those flow ratings. i always used copper wire to do this, (very find strand)whether it was twisting up several strands or using one strand to clear the bore. Use the copper wire in long strands twisted to saw back and forth through the metering jet. Copper is softer than brass.Experience with a lot of motorcycles.
Great video
Don another great vid thanks.
THANK YOU!!!!
good job dony...
I just want to encourage everyone to listen to what this man says about carb jet removal and using the correct tool and exercising care. I got jet #1 out, but #2 wasn't right and I ended up stripping the jet slots. In the end, the carb is totally ruined due to one stupid move by yours truly.
Harbor freight screwdriver?
Thanks for the video. I have a machine that has a 14 horsepower vanguard that will start but won't stay running. It starts to lope and then dies. Choke helps but can't keep it running. Sounds like it needs a good cleaning. Tom
I just acquired a 185 hydro john deere myself, and it needs everything, lol
Thanks so much have exact tractor repair worked great:)
Good vido, well informed an done right , same way i would done it !!!
Hey man I want to thank you you helps me alot
I've watched this video before, but I must have forgotten the two jets inside the choke valve area. Sneaky little devils. Great information as usual.
Yo make it look easy Donny, cool video.
You not Yo lol I'm white.
my favorite jet cleaner is a oxy/acet torch tip cleaner.
Thanks I need that information.
Good job👍 solid engine that too,one of my favs......Kwakas👍
nice job, this would take me forever to do lol
Great video, I have this carb on a 130 model john deere. It was running rough after setting a few seasons, surging with little power. I took the carb off, cleaned it up as you did, all valves etc look great now. Issue is my float I think, its the mikuni carb just like yours. I have tried various tang adjustments but the mower won't stay running. It starts if I drain the bowl via drain screw, then stops within a few seconds from, too much fuel ? I am not sure if the lower the float toward the ground the less fuel? or vice versa I've read conflicting reports which is rich or lean. I have yet to find instructions on this specific carb. At factory tang straight (as to tang and 0 degrees) the float sits past 90 about 15-20 degrees There really isn't a view point which to see the contact of the float flow valve. Any help appreciated.
PS if I take the bowl off of float the mower is happy to start and burn off the fuel so I think I am getting too much fuel and its wetting the spark plug, which is new as well. Also put a new gasket in bowl and fuel pump is pumping lots of fuel, too much maybe? Don't know if there is an adjustment other than the turn valve under seat for fuel from gas tank.
Thanks to anyone with a bit of guidance to get it running again.
Nice job, thx. Do foam filters dry rot and crumble if not replaced after many years of sitting ? Seems to have happened to a gen of mine and foam particulars sucked into carb.
I had a cub cadet 782 engine surge so badly it had to be kept at half throttle minimum. The problem was actually the channel in the carburetor for the mixture adjustment, and it took a few cleanings to get it working properly. .
