L-shaped layout and single wall layout are common, because the resident houses in my area are small, anb they are benefit and efficient in every aspect. thanks for sharing, tho.

My girlfriend and I have been binge watching your videos over the past couple of days, and we have found them so so helpful. Do you by any chance know of anywhere we could find similar information regarding bathrooms? Thanks again for providing such great and easy to understand information on kitchen design!

Thanks so much! Really great to hear!
Funny you should ask, I actually have another website all about bathrooms. thebathroomblueprint.com/ It's very similar to my kitchen website but not quite as big yet and no CZcams channel I'm afraid but hopefully, you might find some helpful information.

Very helpful video! As a former electrician, where should people put their outlets when remodeling? How about a video on that some day

    • @kitchinsider

Thanks Heather! Good video idea, I'll add it to my list! 😊
My quick answer: If you're not sure whether to add that extra outlet, definitely add it! It will always come in handy and you don't want extension leads in your kitchen. Remember to get an outlet on your island somewhere and in the back of your pantry/larder (if you can) especially if you store/use small appliances there. It's really handy. Also remember to keep them at least 300mm away from your sink and hob, for safety. I also like outlets with USB points in them, means you can charge your phone without taking up one of the main outlets.

I have a galley kitchen defined by load-bearing walls, an exterior wall, and the closet for the master bedroom. There is a breakfast room on one end through a 27-inch-wide door and the dining room at the other end through a 32-inch door.
I'm hoping to open the 32 to 48 inches wide, and the 27 to 36 inches, the maximum widths available based on the constraints mentioned in the first sentence. I can find a couple of modifications to my current lay-out that would improve the function (an electric wall oven and a gas cooktop (you call it a hob on your side of the water) allowing easier access to the heavy stuff in the oven ("That means," observed Michael Flanders, "that without my having to bend down, the hot fat can squirt straight into my eye!").
I'm splitting my countertop level at the oven to put allow a 48-inch high surface with the oven just below it and small appliances above it..
The other is bringing the pantry from the far end of the breakfast room to a new built-in cabinet across from the fridge. Another minor change will be reframing the exterior wall (okay, not so minor on the face of it, but I'm having to have that wall rebuilt due to water damage to the rim joist anyhow) to include wider windows for more daylight (the exterior wall happens to be the south side, and I live in the mainland USA). Finally, since the kitchen has to be rebuilt anyhow, lots and lots of lights!

🇬🇧 I’ve lived with this kitchen for 25yrs and always Thought of it as a galley kitchen… Turns out it’s an L shape with the windows on the wrong wall for optimal Functionality🤦🏻‍♀️ plus, turning it into open plan is not an option🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😊

I have no idea why you talk about corner cabinets as if you were talking about the plague... I've had corner cabinets all my life, and only recently got a kidney shaped pull-out and in all seriousness I think I prefer when I had no _"optimization"_ system because now I have effectively less useful cm3 because I can't simply leave stuff as they "fall", I have to account for the pull-out mechanism and nothing falling over or getting stuck... before I would just leave those things I rarely use in the blind corner and have the things I use the most in reach.
