    Hurricane Fiona left me without power for enough time to realize how convenient my kitchen appliances really are. It got me thinking about appliance placement and I hope you find it helpful.
    Excuse the noise of generators in the background. I had to shoot this one outside as there was no power for lights. Thankfully, we only lost power and not our house, as many people have in my community. The Atlantic provinces of Canada need a little extra support right now, so please keep us in your prayers.

    I hope your power will be restored soon. Glad you are safe. Very good advice on appliance placement. I love having my oven and my range top split up. I would also highly recommend venting to the outside. Whatever it costs, it is worth it in my opinion.

      I was in Clarke county MS for Camille, TS Alberto 1994 rained itself out over Atlanta Hartsfield airport(17 inches of rain in less than 24 hours) and all the residents downstream on the Flint River could do was watch the water come. I was in Tennessee for the tornado super-outbreak of 1-4 April, 1974, and don't even ask why I spent the winter of 2009 under a blue tarp because of a tree falling on the house.

    When it comes to placement of appliances I found it function over fashion is the best rule,for me it’s fridge,counter space ,sink, counter space,range ,oven,counter space.

    When placing a wall oven next to a refrigerator do watch the clearances that the fridge does not hit the oven handles when opening. Spacers may be required, better yet a Pantry between the units

    Good channel - plus it's Canadian so will apply to our national codes; provincial codes notwithstanding.
    I have trouble seeing the panel on a microwave that is placed beneath the counter. I like that they're out of the way when placed there, but just not functional for eyes that are...shall I say...aging 😊
    Same goes for oven placement - in the wall - I had one in my early-mid twenties and still my favourite location.

    Thank you for this valuable information on appliance placement. One thing I've read in several different articles about dishwashers is that if you are right handed the dishwasher should be placed on the left of the sink and left handed people feel more comfortable with it being on the right. I looked into this only because my husband wants to put it on the right in our new kitchen remodel but it interferes with a walkway into the kitchen which is one of several reasons why it shouldn't be on the right in my new kitchen. Thanks for all the inspiration in your videos as I am about to embark on a new kitchen remodel.

    • @MTKDofficial
      @MTKDofficial  Před 11 měsíci

      I've heard that theory too. I don't buy it. We are all right handed and our dishwasher is on the left. There has never been an issue with it. My previous kitchen had it on the right. That was fine too. Blocking your walkway is more important to consider then whether it's on the right or left. I'm triggered lol

    • @laurieharnicker5451
      @laurieharnicker5451 Před 11 měsíci

      @@MTKDofficial I suppose that makes more sense that if you are blocking a walkway that's a reason not to have it on the right side in my particular kitchen. I guess it's probably force of habit but I have heard that in several places like Better Homes and Gardens and other kitchen designers, etc. Thanks for your input. My husband will be happy to hear your take on it.

    Don't put the fridge next to the oven or microwave that swings outward or you will eventually end up with a gash in your fridge stainless door-panel like i had in my house was when I moved in

  • @5610winston
    @5610winston Před rokem

    I don't have the extra space for a separate wall oven and cooktop, but I'm getting too less-than-limber to bend down for the oven. By shuffling some storage and placing the warming drawer under the cooktop and splitting the level of the countertop so the oven will be under a 48-inch-high countertop at the end of the cabinet run on the end away from the fridge (I have a dog-trop-type galley) I solve that problem. The toaster-oven, can opener, and other small electrics can go on the high counter.

    Apparently ventilation around a fridge standing next to oven is different from ventilation around the fridge standing away from oven. Have you seen any number showing that a fridge located next to oven would work with the same efficiency as fridge standing away from oven?

    • @MTKDofficial
      @MTKDofficial  Před 5 měsíci

      I haven't seen any data for that, but it's not something I looked for either. I imagine the manufacturers would provide some efficiency numbers depending on installation type.

    Two thoughts: #1 PLAN where you will put your kitchen garbage. #2 Optimize view from sink--under a window is ideal.

    • @ninaotan7811

    • @MTKDofficial
      @MTKDofficial  Před 7 měsíci

      Yeah those two appliances are so frequently used that they beg to be left on the counter. But then it can look cluttered or take up valuable space on the surface. I feel you. I keep my coffee maker out and my toaster in a wall cabinet.

    • @ninaotan7811
      @ninaotan7811 Před 5 měsíci

      It is an issue for me too. To keep a coffee machine out if two people use it at least five times a day is not a workable solution.
