  • Friends, Join Me as I Tour The Church of Lazarus & His Tomb Just below the Church... The Church of Saint Lazarus, is a testament to Cyprus' rich multicultural history & one of the most impressive places to visit in Larnaca, Cyprus. The church is the final resting place of Saint Lazarus, who was resurrected by Jesus a week before Jesus was crucified. It’s an incredible example of Byzantine architecture.
Saint Lazarus is believed to have traveled to Cyprus after he was resurrected by Jesus, (& after Jesus acension as he was a target for killing during the persecution of the early church). Here he later met the Apostle Paul & Barnabas, who made him bishop/pastor of Kition, the ancient name of Larnaca. He continued to live & ministered in Larnaca for the next 30 years. After his death, a church was built over Saint Lazarus's tomb, commissioned by the Byzantine Emperor Leo VI in the ninth century. So rich a history!!
The church is beautiful both inside and out and is definitely worth a visit - it’s definitely one of the best things to do in Larnaca Cyprus.
