  • The story of Saint Lazarus (Άγιος Λάζαρος, or San Lazaro) is known amongst tourists and visitors to Cyprus. He was resurrected by Jesus in the last of the signs presented in the Gospel of St John. Jesus ordered him to come out of his tomb and Lazarus walked out. What is less well known, and many tourists may miss, is that Lazarus’ second tomb was discovered on the Island of Cyprus in 890AD.
    About -
The Church of St Lazarus is built on one of the holiest sites in the Middle East, a church that was built on the site of Lazarus' tomb in 898AD. This is a church that has had a turbulent existence. Built on the command of a Roman emperor, it was not to remain undisturbed for long. It has variously been a Benedictine monastery and a mosque. It has suffered the devastation of the Ottoman Turks who flattened its domes, and its belfry was rebuilt by the citizenry of Larnaca.
Finally, in 1972 during restoration work to the foundations, Lazarus’ tomb was rediscovered and some of the remains of Saint Lazarus were discovered. It is one of the places that you must visit if you go to a pilgrimage to Cyprus, or even for a short visit to Larnaca.
The square around the temple is filled with cafés and restaurants, and you can complement your visit with local delicacies or international cuisine.

Cyprus, Greece, Syria, Anatolia Region and Israel need to start highlighting the important historical sites. The people living in these countries think its normal to have these important sites. For them its normal. But the rest of the world thinks that Cyprus and Greece are foreigners to Christiantity and that Christianity has nothing to do with it. Education in the Americas and other parts of world needs to seriously change.
