It took us nearly five hours to get to Larnaca, Cyprus, and we arrived there after mid-night. Next morning, we went first to the Church of St Lazarus - an ancient and magnificent byzantine church built over the tomb of St Lazarus. St. Lazarus - "the four-day dead and friend of Christ" as inscribed in the marble Sarcophagus inside the Church. The church is decorated with impressively beautiful woodcarvings : the altar, icons of Virgin Mary, St Lazarus, St Nicolas and St George are few examples. We visited also the Larnaca castle, medieval museum, the grand mosque and the long promenade. The Byzantine Museum of St. Lazarus is also a place not to be missed, and it tells the history of the Church and exhibits many of the precious relics found in the past. The promenade is full of shops, restaurants and bars; but not that many tourists in this winter low season. We had traditional local seafood dishes (meze) for dinner that night which was plenty in plates and delicious in taste. With a bottle of local wine, the dining experience was absolutely fantastic. Hope you enjoy watching our day one trip in this huge island in the Mediterranean.
