    Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

This is incredibly valuable to hear working writers talk about all the exact things I'm struggling with as an aspiring writer : good ideas sharing a room with bad ideas, fear keeping me from writing about the good idea I found. To realise that we all struggle with the same stuff doesn't make it easier to overcome it all, but in the end, actually I think it does.

I remember discovering the idea I had for my first novel, the rough initial idea, was pretty awful compared to how it eventually fleshed out. Initial conception - 1993, book started property 2009 and finished in 2017.

I always appreciate these interviews, even when the information doesn't resonate. Most people watching this are probably in the fringes of the industry. They can't afford too many bad ideas because there's no money or time to invest in a losing idea. Yes, a bad idea might come up, but you have to quickly ascertain its value & get rid of it. To do otherwise can & most likely will be fatal.
I think some of this advice is GREAT for those who are established & have a savings.
P.S. I don't think his crazy looking friend appreciates this video as much as I do 😭

Rasputin in Kentucky is not a good idea... it's really REALLY bad. It's the kind of joke I make with my friends and then someone say, "That would make a great movie!", then we all look at him and say, "Uh, no. It wouldn't."
Having said that, I am now going to contradict myself. ANYTHING can be made into a good movie... as long as it's done well, written well, directed well, and so on. RUBBER is a movie about a serial killer tire. A tire, that is a serial killer... and it totally works. The worse concept in the world, in the hands of someone that knows what he is doing, can be turned into something great. But I still wouldn't watch something called Rasputin in Kentucky.

To me, procrastination could be fear, but it is mostly a sign of the opposite: that it's a path I really shouldn't be taking. That it's the wrong choice for the wrong reasons. In fact, I started pitching a manuscript that didn't feel ready, and I now know it really wasn't at the time. It is now. I should have listened to my gut feeling... What I'm trying to say is procrastination may have a valid reason.

I think your explanation of procrastination discounts the psychology too much and omits the role of the procrastinator (particularly if the person does it a lot). It usually isn’t lack of passion or desire that causes us to procrastinate when writing. In my opinion it’s a few things: feeling overwhelmed and frustrated by endless choice; the uncomfortable state of partaking in very difficult work; and the uncertainty around how much progress we’re making (if any) on a writing project day in day out.

@@filmcourage yes! I know the roller coasters. I look at it as a résumé of impressive attempts 😝🤣
I just got myself a laptop! and I’m trying to become unchained to this phone (typing/spelling)
I’m constantly struck by lightnin the the easiest solution always seemed that I should find a comedy club and dump it on Everybody i do it anyway just not on stage I have fun when I talk 😂
I’m not in the movies I don’t have the tools to do music and I’m like this guy about every from dealing with peoples cars to you name it.
I’ve got a guy set up right now he’s waiting on everything. He’s going to need me to redo his convertible top for his 1966 Electra Buick (not the frame on this one) and I really want to say this will be my last one but the thing that gets me through it is getting the really cool attention 😂 but I actually have to pull off the actual labor unlike acting I have to actually be a real convertible Top guy i have people on a waiting list they will not call anybody else unless I send them to another guy that I know is just as good and may even know some other stuff and with all the madness LOL it could be 6-months before any material shows up.
      ..Been kinda nice though 🙌🏼🤣

    • @nickybjammin7629
      @nickybjammin7629 Před rokem

      @@filmcourage I like this guy.
yea another thing is development. I’ve come up with the goofiest stuff you could imagine from visual to lyrics/melody and they might turn into something actually pretty cool through time. I love acting like weird people not like anything I’ve done while talking on a CZcams video nobody would get it i guess like Billy Bob Thornton there’s a few good examples but not from a script or acting jobs just out of the blue situation and different emotions about them just off-the-wall situations that are not even really happening. If somebody saw me do this, they would think that I was loony and they would want to know why I was acting so upset or what I was laughing at and taking about…or as if I’m yelling at somebody but I’m being this deferint person I like pondering on why was this guy yelling what led to this? This guy must hate squirrels! let’s find out why and he gets more interesting. I will stay by my self just to be that free LOL people would think you’re crazy but if it involves something you do for a living it’s considered amazing he must have a gifted mind 😎🤣
But it’s in everything like watching other people, noticing shapes if you’re drawing or maybe a painter or architect, definitely writing, there’s a connection with the basics of explanation/what you’re sharing…what you’re explaining, what is happening LOL see it already sounds like madness 😂
How can anyone else experience it. You’re gonna have to act it out, write it down, draw it, sing it, show it.

I totally disagree. However I don't disagree that you can get a good idea by having allot of bad ideas. However to really have a really good idea you build on already good ideas. To quote Isaac Newton “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
