  • In this biographical documentary, we take a look at the life of Jackson Stell, following him along his journey to becoming Big Wild, one of the most diverse and genre bending producers of our time. We explore how his early life experiences led him to becoming a hip hop beat maker, known as J Beatz. His time as J Beatz laid the groundwork for him to embark on his journey as a solo electronic artist. Over the years he pushed his sound beyond boundaries, gaining support from renowned music labels and outlets, such as Odesza's Foreign Family Collective, and NEST HQ, a subsidiary of Skrillex's label OWSLA. He was recruited to support major artists on tour, such as Tycho, GRiZ, Zeds Dead, and ODESZA to name a few. All of this exposure helped him build up his own massive fan base of wildly loyal fans, to the point that he now plays on some of the worlds biggest stages. He has had countless appearances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Coachella Music & Arts Festival, Lollapalooza Chicago, Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, as well as numerous other major festivals and stages. Even with all this success, he decided one day that he wanted to share more of his story with the world, so he began honing his skills as a vocalist. His 2019 debut album, Superdream, was a fresh twist on his old sound, this time with every musical element shaped around his distinct voice. He explored the outer edges of his sound with his 2022 sophomore album, The Efferusphere. It pushes into a more organic world than Superdream, bordering on psychedelic rock, with punchy drums, washed out high pitched vocals, and plenty of flanger. Over the past decade, we have seen tremendous growth and exploration from the Big Wild project, and it leaves fans on the edge of their seat, always wondering what will come next. Will the lifetime of this project be marked by a never ending relentless exploration of sound? Or has Jackson Stell been searching for his forever sound, waiting to firmly plant his roots in one specific genre? Only time will tell, but no matter where he takes this project, it will surely be fun to watch.

Big Wild is so slept on around my way, everyone is so obsessed with bass music I really miss the VIBES artist like Big Wild brought, Hermitude, Flume, all that future bass good feels are gone on some of the “biggest” lineups these days.

Yeah I wish Big Wild would play more shows, he's only doing 2 this year but he's probably working on his next album and taking time off from touring. I'm going to see him at Red Rocks in August though so I'm stoked for that!

Big wild was my first electronic show back in 2016 at Okeechobee music. After the fest I was sitting in my car and I heard his song on a commercial for Royal Caribbean!

I just got to the part where you spoke about okee! I remember his set so perfectly, that first year of okee was so special. It has been the best fest I've ever attended!

I wish I would have gone to one of those early years of Okee, I went for the first time last year and it was my favorite festival, but everyone said it was even better in those first few years

Ya I didn't like it it 2020 but SoundSlinger got the fest back from Insomniac this year so I hope they will go back to their roots.
You should do a Musical Journey of Bassnectar. He's got a pretty long history. Despite his recent allegations I think it could make for a pretty good vid. He's definitely been one of the most influential bass music producers in the US.
