Every Transformers Generation Explained (ft. Matt Hullum) | WIRED - Zábava
Is anyone going to talk about how Matt didn’t even mention Robots in Disguise 2015 but he talked about Transformers GO? I find that hilarious
Fuzzle_ Buzzle yeah cause transformers GO is good
We don't mention RID 2015
Maybe because RiD 2015 is a part of the same continuity that TFP is.
@@Quantum_Magnus Perhaps, but he acknowledged Transformers GO! as a sequel to Beast Hunters, therefore, a sequel to TF Prime. It's just kinda strange that he completely glossed over RID 2015 even though it's bad.
Fuzzle_ Buzzle True. I mean, I thought Energom and RiD 2001 were worse.
I've been following Rooster Teeth for like 10 years. Had no idea Matt knew this much about Transformers
It looks like he's got a script, and this is likely part of the research he's done for the show he's helping produce.
@@insanelyinshape Yep. Wrote the comment before I watched the video.
What Matt did this? I feel like a fake RT fan because I didn't know Matt was involved with this spin off animated series...
sarahwithstars one of the founders and was CEO for a time before they were taken over by full screen. He voices Sarge in Red vs Blue
sarahwithstars Matt Hullum
Matt Hullum? Wasn't expecting this. Nice.
lol seriously I had to do a double take
@@informal_variant Same, it's probably the only reason I clicked on this video!
@@OneHellOfAMes same here

It was crazy how much the thumbnail looked like Matt Hullum.. Then it actually was Matt Hullum... Holy plot twist.
When I saw Beast Wars Megatron, I instinctively did a deep-voiced "Yes"
_”Yesssssss”_
Wish there was a bit more on Transformers Animated. My favorite incarnation of Optimus Prime. In every other incarnation he's already the perfect leader. In this one we see the growth of a leader.
Beast Wars would beg to differ
@@chicomac8450Prime is only a cameo in Beast Wars
As a RT fan, it was weird to see him in the thumbnail for some reason😂
I know right? Nice to see someone who’s usually behind the scenes.
agreed I thought I was seeing things...
RT?
Alumlovescake Rooster Teeth
Omg I thought the same. I triple checked that the uploader was WIRED and not RT lol
Transformers Prime is the best modern iteration cartoon transformers. I remember watching the show Saturday mornings
Right there with you, but Animated can also get it.
They should both share top spot easy.
If by modern you mean came out within the last 5 years and by "best" you mean "best I'm the target audience for." Because clearly Rescue Bots is the best, you're just too old for it lol
@Mark Rogers Nah, it's *Beast Wars* and *Armada* , at least for me it is.
*Prime* was okay, and *Animated* , I never rally got the chance to finish watching the whole show. I think I stopped after Optimus and team made an alliance with the Dinobots.
@@cerisem7727 beast wars and armada ftw by far. Prime comes in after and animated was pure trash
Prime is definitely the best. Most certainly for a more mature audience. Anyone who says the Unicron trilogy is actually good is probably having a nostalgia trip, or is actually 12.
I grew up watching the live-action Michael Bay films. My Fandom paid off when I got to meet Peter Cullen and got him to sign my Armor Knight Optimus Prime.
Mat Hullum talking about the best era and Unicron trilogy (Armada, Energon and Cybertron) is litterly my childhood and Teenhood dream come true.
Armada and Cybertron I can get behind, but Energon was horrible.
"There's a civil war that's been referred to many times throughout the transformer saga and "Siege" actually takes place on the last day of the civil war. And so it's something that *fans have never gotten to see,* a period of time that's pivotal in the Transformers legacy and story that finally has been put on screen."
Um...does anyone else remember the War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron games? Pretty sure those games did that too.
I thought this was a new game as opposed to a series.
I think he was referring too the last day, BUT I haven’t played those games on SO long, so I don’t remember if the end was actually even seen. I also think he didn’t write some of these summaries, as we can see in the way he reacts to rescue bots, “ no decepticons. WHAT NO DECEPTICONS?! ok so they are mentioned...” the way he reacts is so...off, and reactionary seems new to him
WFC/FoC are games; that quote is referring to a tv series.
@@KingOfHalla That's not the point. My point is that the quote says they are the first to do it. They are not.
@@rayo1366 "finally has been *put on screen* ".
Referring to tv. That *is* the point.
Transformers Fall Of Cybertron on PS3 is still amazing
I have it for PC, and XBox 360.
The first Transformers movie(2007) was literally my childhood. I really loved that movie and I still do.
Sadly the fanbase is too immature to stop hating a movie that came out 13 years ago
@TheDragonDAFan and it's a tradition the traditionalist should stop doing it's getting old and immature
Why is there no mention of the Transformers comic books, or their writers? Bob Budiansky wrote the filecard descriptions for most of the G1 characters (including giving a lot of them their names), and Simon Furman created the backstory for Unicron and Cybertron, including inventing Primus, the Transformers creator. They contributed more than the cartoon writers did, and their influence on the lore continues to this day.
Agreed. He's only covering the cartoon history.
Just what I was going to say.
They need to keep their video short. Including comics will double the time. But the main thing is him promoting the new show.
Don't forget about Jim Shooter.
Watch Chris McFeely's The Basics series then
What I like the most about Transformers is that they just arent stopping
They have pretty much said everything and yet people are still writing stories about giant transforming robots fighting their war trough out the galaxy
Yeah exactly! It’s been what? 40 years? And Transformers is still going
I am A fan its been 36 years precisely
TheHoodedHood still a long time!
Man, I remember getting the entire *Armada* Trilogy on DVD, I watched it over and over countless times, then went on to *Cybertron* (I didn't really count *Energon* as part of the whole thing even though it was)
Cybertron was my first show. It was on before swim practice during the summer on CN.
Daniel Deystar same here. I somehow had both jetfire and the primus toy. Need to find a new jetfire toy to feel the nostalgia again
20:00 Yep! Interestingly Bayformers introduced me Transformers continuity of G1 and Aligned. Very nostalgic...
I was introduced to it because of transformers cybertron and the fact that I somehow had the transformers the movie 20th anniversary dvds. You don’t know how hyped I was to have a transformers themed birthday party for my 5th birthday
For me it was due to the reviewers such as Emgo316 and Optibotimus. When I watched, they were doing mostly transformers prime reviews and somehow I stumbled across season 3 of Transformers Prime. I had tried G1 but didn’t get into the franchise. Then the 30th anniversary began and I saw Age of Extinction in and XD Cinemark theater(basically IMAX but louder). As bad as it was, a small part of me does like the movie.
Now here I am almost 8 years later, I’ve seen all the movies, seen 8 shows all the way through, collected many many many figures, started reading the IDW comics and even started writing my very own transformers universe. Because of the mass of online creators like TFI Creations, Chrosshairs Productions, Comidon Cam, Diamondbolt and many more.
Transformers was the first thing I was ever into. I loved G1, Transformers animated, the movies, the Cybertron games and the toys of course.
Anyone else remember the time optimus prime killed himself because he cheated in a video game?
God, that issue. Back then, as a kid and even now.
Didn't he do that in a recent death race?
Man Optimus always was a virtuous Character. Staying close to his morals.
@@xXLiLJokerXx yep
Ok, I need to watch G1.
Matt Hullum!? Holy crap didn’t expect this
MATT HULLUM? I am very pleasantly surprise
Transformers, more than meets the eye. Don't know why but when I was younger, I kept singing that lyric as "more that beats the eye"
Awwww
🤜👁
more than pizza pie
there's something so funny about that scene hahaha you just got a laugh out of me, don't know why
Transformers: Prime was a masterpiece. I still can't believe that Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci had anything to do with it.
Agreed
They're not bad writers. They didn't have time to make a script for tf2
12:22 "They're over. You lost" that's meme quality 😂😂😂
Transformers GO actually sounds and looks like a fun series.
Also as a 90s kid i remember having a Toy Purple T-Rex Megatron Beast wars toy. Takes me back. Beast wars was awesome.
Its kind of a bore but good animation.
Wasn’t awesome, but, it was fun.
I actually started watching transformer ARMADA on cartoon network.. with minicons that was amazing..
Loved armada! It was one of the first I started watching too! I loved the minicons, they were absolutely adorable! :D
5:04 mentions that "the headmasters supplanted the rebirth" without explaining what any of that means, procedes to read headmasters wiki article aloud
ikr
Bruv, he reading it like a college student presenting his group assignment 🤣🤣🤣
2:12 you can’t just play that clip without talking about it first bro!! This made me cry😢. Transformers is my childhood
Apparently Bumble Bee is actually a reboot (thank god)
Lol no
@@novustalks7525 Bumblebee is reboot
Optimus Prime wore a mask...
Such wisdom
@@green_was_taken Too bad, huh.
@@green_was_taken masks aren't politics
"Transformers doesnt want your politics." -yup, they have enough of their own politics, racism and so on.
But why are you talking about it under a joke about public health?
Green it’s not political, it’s a pandemic
Transformers Animated was my whole childhood and he just brushed it off as "they were like heroes" 😭
13:21 IT WAS RETCONNED AS A REBOOT, CAR ROBOTS WAS INTENDED TO BE A CONTINUATION OF G1, WHICH IT WAS IN JAPAN, BUT WAS HASTILY MADE INTO A REBOOT WHEN IT WAS DUBBED INTO ENGLISH now called Robots in Disguise
I kind of wished you talked about some of the more important comics like the More Than Meets The Eye and Lost Light series?? I think they’re some of the best comics ever made.
Dammit im 45 and still get bent all out of shape watching the movie. Can't believe they killed Optimus
I heard that some people walked out of theaters. Not sure it’s true, though.
Seeing the 1984 - 1987 Transformers reminds me of my childhood, Im only 18 almost 19, my stepdad got me this mini dvd-player for on holidays. I would sit in the back of the car watching the entire show, rewatching it I think over 15 times over a couple years. Transformers will always be a part of my childhood and I cannot express the love I feel for the entire franchise/story.
Yeah! It has and always will be one of my most favorite franchises of all time! There's almost a mystical force around the idea of Transformers! It has so much character and charm! :')
Unicron is sooo cool! The ultimate super mega mecha villain!
Hey Matt, I just watched the war for cybertron on Netflix and I love it. It’s the best transformers I’ve seen to date. Thank you for creating this pice of art
I'v always felt like Metroplex and Jetfire deserve a lot more time in the spotlight since the G1 era.
Wish there was more mention of the comics. So many epic stories in the various comic series.
The comics are easily the best part of the franchise, that and "Ask Vector Prime." The only TV shows that come close are Beast Wars and Animated. Prime is great and all but having one Autobot be worth a hundred Decepticons never had me concerned for the characters. The G1 cartoon just felt to repetitive and error ridden for me to get through it without a struggle.
@@samuelrichards1288 ask vector prime sucked it made the franchise more complicated then it needed to be.
I think that should be saved for another time, it deserves a video of its own!
Loved beast wars for all the reasons stated and more, just finished watching siege and it reminded me a little of beast wars with the story telling and serious elements.
ummmm i thought this was RT i was so confused when i clicked
I wonder why he didn't mention any of the 2015 RID version (sequel of TF prime). Cause technically that is part of the transformers universe series. Albeit not a particular favorite of mine but a little sad he didn't mention it.
Because Wired doesn't care about our nerd stuff
No one liked rid2015 or rescue bots
I liked it

@@DarkCreed Yeah I wish that they would but they can't because of legal issues 😔

@@alumlovescake yeah that pissed me off when I heard that we'll never get another transformers game as good as war for Cybertron and fall of Cybertron.
Since I was born in the 90s it's great to see beast wars come back.
Several things mentioned are incorrect...
the WFC trilogy was the best game and show series ever, I wish there was more added to it other than RID.
19:39 correction, it a reboot
Haha. He called Bumblebee a Prequel to the Michael Bay movies. Funny.
FervantHealer it actually was a prequel before it got turned into a reboot
It is and always was a prequel
West Charleston Dixon Cathcart ll no it’s a reboot bud. BB is a reboot
Read official statements and find the source, read the ACTUAL source statements, NOT just headlines that say "BB officially a reboot", if you read the source of those opinion pieces, they are all based off of misinformation, misinterpretation and the word "reboot" being used differently as to some filmmakers, producers etc, it does NOT mean what most fans think, IE it doesn't always mean complete and totally new, different continuity etc.
For example Creed is called a Rocky reboot even though it's in the same continuity, the Full House reboot, Saved by the bell reboot etc, reboot doesn't always mean what you think it means. The transformers producer breaks it down in explicit detail in the link
It was garbage anyway.
Man I was really hoping sarge would go more into tfoc 😔 but very cool to see him
Thank god someone who really loves the franchise working on it.
The Transformers media I grew up with is The Live Action,Prime,Animated and Cybertron.
Same
Good video but im kinda sad that there were no mentions of the comics. Like where is IDW?
You missed Beastwars Neo and RID 2015 in the line up but was really pleased you included Transformers GO thanks
I love how they show just an image of the Video games War for Cybertron, and then Matt says, you've never seen the final day. Psh
You guys have done a magnificient job with the franchise. Bravo. Looking forward to more.
everytime that I see any red trucks out on the road outside I'll think of leader Optimus Prime and will feel like yelling light our darkest hours.
After watching that By Its Cover episode with the animation people, it's nice to see that someone at RT knows what they're talking about in terms of transformers.
Its cool to see Matt Hullum talk about Transformers. I didn’t know he was a TF fan. I would like to see Sarge meet Optimus Prime, or Kup, or Ironhide. Also, Bumblebee is officially a reboot and is not connected to the other movies. And the Michael Bay movies are not beloved by everyone as as lot of people loath the Bay films. But I’m not gonna lie that the movies does have good spectacle and CGI that are all breathtaking.
Great humor the bay films, Jesus im getting flashbacks *ENEMY SCRPTUMS*
This was great! Thank you.
Keep in mind that this is one of the cats who made Red vs Blue.
22:00 You know TFA is a neglected cartoon when they don't even gets its years right.
Hey, they could have ignored it like they did RiD 15.
He didn’t really mention victory. And I think victory deserves a lot of credit. It’s fuckin amazing.
That thumbnail brings back so many childhood memories!
Thank you for this video!

Man, I was like 6 when I saw the Transformers animated movie and I cried for days after Prime died and nearly did again in the motion picture (part 2). :-(
This was an astoundingly well presented video.
Great an Image of Sarge explaining Transformers Is now Embeded in My Mind
Original Transformers toy figures were and are still awesome.im a big fan of Megatron he never gave up.
New drinking game. Everytime there is a -ron in transformers take a drink
Thanks for this video, I had no idea there was so much transformers after gen 1
I learned quite a bit, appreciate you putting this together!
Also, I went to see Transformers The Movie in 1986 with my Dad and I must say I REALLY enjoyed it and had the same thoughts you did about it being the "greatest thing in the history of time"! 👍👍
The unicorn trilogy was my generation.
Mine was the aligned continuity with the movies
Same, I loved the unicron trilogy! Very fun and cool designs! All the nostalgia, man!
Transformers was a big part of my childhood, im looking forward to the new series, it looks cool
What a coincidence, about a week ago I got a random G1 transformers explanation video on my homepage recommendations and have been watching a lot of transformers videos lately.... Then this, what a coincidence.
Wait... I know this guy!
Congratulations to the RT studios developing this, And it's on Netflix!
So you use Super-God Masterforce Optimus Prime for Headmasters, great job there
pls balance out your audio. levels are all over the place. Got a shock when your spoken intro suddenly changed to bumblebee. lol.
dont get me wrong, not hating, just slightly inconvenienced.
You're getting the authentic Rooster Teeth Experience!
@@Ketris0 🤣
I was sad to see Transformers Cybertron only get a passing mention as it was the one I grew up with and added a lot of interesting characters and expanding things like the cyber planet keys and adding beast planet and the giant planet which melded all the previous incarnations or transformers into one story.
I'm excited I'll have to check out the new series
Thanks Man!!
Here’s how I see the generations:
G1: OG Cartoon and Movie Era.
G2: Beast Wars Era.
G3: RID/Energon 2000-2005 Era.
G4: Bayverse and IDW Era.
The thing that gets me is beast wars takes place centuries into the future. I remember transformers taking place on earth via the movie. So if time runs forward then at some point in the transformers universe Earth had advanced humans prior to the beast wars (dinosaurs present). So Transformers takes place millions of years in OUR past. Edit: My queston was answered 10 seconds after posting my theroy. At least I got it half right!
35 minutes of Matt Hullum talking about transformers?! I’m in!
Beast Wars ❤️
God I hope Ironhide sounds like Sarge.....
Wait. Matt Hullum is the EP for the new Netflix trilogy? How am I just learning that! Makes me that much more excited.
Beasts Wars, man I feel old! 😂
I love how the 2015 Robots in Disguise series that was a sequel to Transformers: Prime is not even mentioned. xD
Yeah, they mentioned all of the Japanese stuff, but forgot to include a main line American mass produced series....
@@DvirOZys and they may or may not have forgotten to mention that the alligned continuity began with the WFC and FOC games and then continued and technically ended with Prime according to the Covenant of Primus book.
G1 continuity family & the unicron trilogy are the best since in 1984 to 2005
Awesome
Beast wars gen right here. Love this series!
Still can't look at him without remembering Sarge of RVB
10:35 that’s beast wars neo (btw you forgot beast wars neo, plus the beast wars II movie)
The beast wars ii movie was really just an extended episode. OVA doesn't directly translate to "movie"
More importantly, he didn't discuss any comic books or video games at all
Benjamin Lewis but he disregards them as if they hold no pre-earth, last days of the war on cybertron content
Masterforce and Victory are my favorite generations. The Japanese had the best idea of mixing more humans with robots. I'd really love to see a live adaptation of these versions. Hopefully sometime soon.
