    Rainbow were the rock super group founded by the legendary, former Deep Purple guitarist, Richie Blackmore. This is the classic lineup of, Ronnie James Dio, vox; Richie Blackmore, guitars; Tony Carey, keys; Jimmy Bain, bass & last but not least, legendary rock drummer, Cozy Powell.
    Blackmore was a perfectionist, demanding equal perfection from other band members. Consequently, he became infamous for sacking members, usually the bassists or keyboard players. Sadly both Dio & Powell are now dead, the former from illness, the latter in a car crash.
    While we are here, just like to say, love your reaction channel! You seem such a nice guy, & I love your involvement & enthusiasm, particularly for NIghtwish. Keep up the good work, love & light from the UK!

    The 1977 Munich concert videos are some of the best Rainbow footage. The songs " Mistreated" and " Catch the Rainbow" are fantastic.

    Yesssss man, Rainbow, one of my favorite bands back in the day. Only 2 singers give me the chills when they open their mouth ... Dio and Floor. If you want more Rainbow, please do Gates of Babylon or Still I'm sad. For the last one do yourselves a favor and take 27 minute version with the drumsolo of the great Cozy Powell

    Ah, the luxury of the album, the LP, the long playing record! Gave all the bands back in the 'old times' (😠 - I'm gonna need a minute!) a chance to construct masterpieces that would never get played on the radio! Took me back to hearing this for the first time through the bedroom wall as my brother rocked out! Thanks Daniel 🤗

    The track which follows Stargazer on the Rising album is for me the greatest classic rock track of all time bar none. A LIGHT IN THE BLACK!

    • @scifimonkey3
      @scifimonkey3 Před rokem +1

      I have to agree wholeheartedly and the best way to listen is to play ‘Stargazer’ and then ‘A light in the black’ back to back from the Rainbow rising album. Best album side of heavy rock music ever penned. The live recording is interesting but the studio version is perfection.

      I can’t choose one, but they are perfect next each other. The whole story, music, vocals. The best 16 minutes in modern music to me...

    Everything else by Rainbow. You should listen to every Rainbow album in full This album Rising, is one of the 10 greatest rock albums of all time

    One of my favourite bands from my youth. When Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple he formed Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals.
    In this live setting the line-up was:
    Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar
    Ronnie James Dio - Vocals (R. I. P.)
    Jimmie Bain - Bass (R. I. P.)
    Cozy Powell - Drums (R. I. P.)
    Tony Carey - Keyboard
    It was one of the greatest hard rock bands in the mid and late 70s.

      Just a slight correction, on bass it was Jimmy Bain.

  • @garyh.238
    @garyh.238 Před rokem +2

    RAINBOW! Not only Dio.....the guitarist, the greatest of them all, was RITCHIE BLACKMORE! The same guitarist you have been watching in your DEEP PURPLE reaction videos. Blackmore was the founder and key driver of both bands. There are better versions (sonics / performances ) of Stargazer here on YT. The studio version of Stargazer from the album "Rising" is the quintessential recording.

  • @scifimonkey3
    @scifimonkey3 Před rokem +11

    Do yourself a favour and take a bit of time out , get comfy and listen to the studio version from Rainbow Rising and let it run on into the next track, A light in the Black which continues the same story and together with Stargazer forms one of the best 20mins of sword and sorcery heavy rock ever.

    Beautifully done! Great to hear someone do a live version of this song - especially as it's probably one of the hardest studio songs to better live! A multitude of tracks will head your way, but this track should always be followed by the track that follows it on the album - "Light in the Black" - which is a follow-on and a completion of the story! The Dio era was certainly the best - but the fourth version with Doogie White singing is as close as you will get and there are some fantastic songs from a live concert in '95 that I'm sure will get added to your road-trip!

    Great reaction to Rainbow with the rock god Ronnie James Dio . Ive loved this band since Igot this album when I was 15 . Rainbow Rising is in my opinion one of the best albums of all time and I also have to mention the guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple)and the awesome Cozy Powell on drums . Check out Dio on the albums with his own band and he sang with Sabbath for a while and released another of the best albums of all time Heaven and Hell saw them perform it live awesome show . RIP rhe man on the silver mountain ❤and RIP Cozy ❤

    Great reaction again! I saw Rainbow live in Buffalo during the Rainbow Rising world tour in 1976. Incredible experience! I was 14 at the time (been a metalhead since I was 10). Excellent musicians! Ritchie Blackmore was a founding member of Deep Purple before he helped create Rainbow. At the time, Cozy Powell was considered the fastest drummer in rock. There are a few live videos on YT. Yeah, you definitely wouldn't here this on radio these days. I think many of us Americans have gotten too impatient to listen to a song longer than a few minutes (not me). I guess that's why I like European metal. Longer songs telling great stories.
    Here's a good one. Dio had a fantastic voice! Lots of power! He also replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath in 1980.
    Here's the link to Mistreated. czcams.com/video/3RiJKuYvy0s/video.html 23:04 20:17

      Ritchie did not help to create Rainbow, he was the founder of the band, that is why the first album was called Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow... And I never heard that Cozy would be considered to be the fastest drummer... He indeed was great but never reached the speed and finesse of Ian Paice... Nevertheless, Rainbow was the best band in the world between 1976-1978 IMO.

  • @Drinckx2
    @Drinckx2 Před rokem +2

    The synth intro isn't on the studio version. Rainbow Rising is one of the greatest metal albums of all time and demonstrates Richie Blackmore seeking new direction after leaving Deep Purple (and the first self-titled Rainbow album). The band was successessful but, following the next album, Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, Blackmore had another change of band members to take Rainbow in a more commercial direction, with Graham Bonnet on vocals, leading to successful singles like Since You've Been Gone and All Night Long.
    It is definitely worth listening to the album version of this, indeed the whole album, as I think it their best.

    And this is not even the best version of the song, haha.
    So, if you want more Rainbow, I'd recommend "A light in the black" (which is a direct sequel to "Stargazer"), "Temple of the King" (in a very different style, much more mellow, but SO good), and "Gates of Babylon."
    And then, of course, you can explore more of Dio's work outside of Rainbow. He was briefly the singer for Black Sabbath (check out "Heaven and Hell") and had his own band (simply called Dio). Another rabbit hole waiting for you right there ;)

    Ronnie James Dio is my favourite artist. This in not the best recording cause every song dio did sing live is alway way better than studio album and this is not. Unfortunately there is no good recording from Stargazer. But live in Munich which has video too is perfect. Never in my life heard something that can hold a candle on mistreated, never!
