Hoi4 Alternate History: What if Germany Focused on Africa in WW2?

- The Germans knew that oil would be crucial to the war and that they would likely need to capture new sources for the war effort.
The main oil-producing regions at the time that might be captured were the Caucasus region of southern Russia and the Middle East.
The Germans committed hundreds of divisions in their attempts to take the Russian oil but mere fractions of this to the African front, which was less well defended. But what if they did?

What if Finland joined the allies (Maybe after getting their help during the winter war?).
Finland actually joined Soviet Union war against Germans in 1944, but they didn't fight outside of their country
Wouldn't happen the Germans allowed the Allies to help Finland as long as they didn't attack German shipping for the Winter War. The Allies strictly didn't want to call a minor ceasefire with the Axis to only help the Finns (Also, it didn't help Sweden also would allow transportation through their country as to stay 100% neutral).
Then the British in the interwar period seeing as they wouldn't be able to assist Finland and attack Germany at the same time decided to supply the Soviets.
What if Mexico went to war with America during WW1
Nothing, they were in a civil war
That’s just suicide
Zimmerman telegram is interesting but also massively overrated and/or misunderstood
They would’ve lost since Mexico just had their revolution. Overthrew Porfirio Diaz, then Madero got in power, 6 months into power he got double crossed and assassinated by military leader Huerra, then he got overthrown by revolutionaries (Pancho Villa, Venustiani Carranza & Emiliano Zapata) which then decided to go to war against eachother. And carranza ended up killing the other two to get all power to himself with aid from the United States.
So, in what world would Carranza decide to go against USA, if the USA basically funded his movement to get him to power ? We would have to think further back to another president who would’ve been more likely to do so, like Diaz or Villa.
Problem then is, mexico would probably go into civil war, so you’d need to find a president who is likely to go against USA desires AND can mantain stability in México. I can’t think if anyone alive during this time to do the job.
So when Mexico declares and goes against USA, it would probably have more chances if it’s a surprise declaration and just moves in. Which would see some initial success since USA hadn’t mobilize. But would soon be pushed back to rio grande and into Mexico. Which would make Mexicans revolt and overthrow whoever was in power.
@@alfredovillalobos7481 yeah but it might have delayed the Americans arrival in Europe and they might have initially gained a small amount of land if they surprised America.
Probably short term territory gains for Mexico at the start and delay US troop arrival into Europe possibly giving the Germans some more time for their major spring offensive and delay US support to Britian and France.
Long term I would think the US could stabilize the front and push back Mexican forces from US territory and possibly into a counter-invasion into Mexico proper. This could lead to the US facing decent resistance but capitulating Mexico or Mexico seeing it would be a lost cause and then to negotiate a separate peace with the US and other allies if they joined to help the fight. Then the US would turn attention to Europe and send its main forces over but they might not need to at this point since Germany was starving and on the brink of revolution regardless.
So probably was for the best for Mexico to not join but it’s just my opinion. Interesting scenario regardless
To add on that. There would be no realistic way for Germany to send aid(in substantial numbers that would actually make a difference) to Mexico due to British Naval blockade/supremacy, and the major geographical distance between the two nations. As well as the US would most likely do a Naval Blockade of Mexico with their superior navy.
On top of that if the war went bad for Mexico(which it most likely would) it could cause widespread unrest and riots in Mexico against the government potentially leading to a coup and/or civil war from anti-government forces. Making the situation for Mexico even worse.
Even if we were to be very hypothetical and Generous to Mexico and say by some chance they pushed deep into the US taking back much of the border states and southern states they once had as territory, the vast border they would have to man and stretched supply lines would make it guaranteed that the offensive would halt at some point and be pushed back. As well as they would have taken significant casualties to get to this point.
What if Imperial Russia made it out of WW1 intact.
what if the soviet didn't cooperate with the germans in 1939?
Anarchists. Anarchists. Anarchists. I'm dying to hear what you think would happen if the Spanish anarchists could have won the war.

Attempt 3: (Using the Great War Redux again) What if Italy honored the Triple Alliance and eventually joined the Central Powers when WWI comes around?
I'm sorry but that's just impossibile.
The Italians despised Austria Hungary, and Austria Hungary despised Italy.
At best Italy would stay neutral, but there is no way that it would ever join the war on the side of the Central Powers.
My one disagreement with this is the Soviets. Stalin knew he would have to go to war with Germany but he didn't think it would come in 41. He was shocked that Germany invaded. I think that in this scenario he would still be shocked to be invaded in 42. Personally, I don't think the nine months Soviets had would have done anything. They would be no more prepared for war in early 42 than they were in mid 41. As to what affects that would do to the war I can't say for certain. I think the war would be extended even if it was the nine months of the later start. Sorry sometimes my history brain just takes over. From an entertainment purpose, I'm absolutely loving these videos.
What if Austria-Hungary reformed in 1936?
Austria-Hungary seen here in their natural habitat of abandoning their artillery.
I’m pretty sure hes only doing possible outcomes
What if the allies actually opposed rhineland/anchluss/sudetenland etc?
Would probably kick off the war early, I'm not sure if it would change the course of events much though - they'd just happen while officially at war instead. Though the Germans probably wouldn't fare quite as well early on if the war started before they were ready for it.
Hitler would have immediately stopped on any of them. He set in precedent that if they were to deny any of those he would concede.
Also the first two were a guarantee that he wouldn't purse any further the Sudetenland might have been different though if the first two went through, but a very slim chance.
Also with the Anchluss Mussolini had been very stigent on guaranteeing Austrias independence, but had no real support for it. Even when he requested help from the British and French they told him to pretty much go fuck himself because he invaded Ethiopia, and it wasn't like either of those countries hadn't been slaughtering and taking more control of land from their colonies at that time. They just didn't want Italy fully surroundin the area.

When the Italians attacked the British they had over half a million troops and 43? Trucks to supply them from Tunisia past Benazi.

(What if USA loss the revolutionary war)do pax Britannica
My brother and I imagined a scenario where no one wins World War II.
Everything is going exactly the same as in the current timeline, BUT the USSR achieves a surprising victory in Finland, giving Germany fear of war and thus avoiding Barbarossa (or so we think).
On the other hand, Japan would not be so brave to attack Pearl Harbor or the Philippines because the US navy would be prepared for any war seeing what happened in Europe, this would mean that Japan would only concentrate on China.
Returning to Europe, a kind of "tie" occurs between the United Kingdom and Germany, the bombing campaign goes on and on because neither side plans to give in, there is simply no room to discuss peace since Hitler, seeing his plan of obsolete destroying Stalin would have an even greater thirst for power, perhaps even attacking countries in the Middle East such as Turkey, Iraq and Iran in search of reaching the British Raj (a scenario perhaps similar to the one in this video).
This came up when my brother asked me why so many people believe that Germany could have won the war.
I answered that, the most Germany could obtain was a tie with the Allies as long as the United States did not join.
What do you think?
What if the battle of Kursk was won by the Germans?
What if the Weimar Republic never fell?
I don't really agree with the undermining of the loss of egypt of the British, they would have lost Malta, Cyprus and all of the mediterrenian would be on lockdown. Not to mention Iran also having many oil fields and a pro axis government, a lot of the lend lease to the soviets went through Iran, in this timeline it would have to go through Murmansk(very close to german positions) or through the eastern ports(very close to japan) in a way bigger scale. Also I don't think the germans would just let north Africa fall that easily with egypt under control. Egypt also provides with a lot of food which means troops and people don't starve.
I agree, the importance of the Suez/Africa and further ramifications in places such as India is a bit understated in the video.
@@krisvangucht5884 also I think it would be very likely that either Iran joins the axis or are invaded. Through Iran the Axis can attack India.

So awesome! Thanks for sharing!!I will have to get that,on my steam account, once I go back to work!
I would disagree with this. 85% oil of Soviet Union comes from Caucasus. If Turkey joined in and the Axis gets that territory, then it doesn't matter how much the US helps; they didn't have the resources to continue this war.
Their oil stockpiles wouldn't disappear instantly and even low on fuel they still had a ton of manpower so it's still unlikely they'd suffer a total defeat. It'd probably go somewhat worse for them than it did in this video though yeah.
@@krisvangucht5884 Unequipped and undersupplied manpower is useless.
Oil mean mobility. Mobility is something the Germans are good at. Soviet counterattacks are mauled and the Russians are bled white.
What if Poland appeared for war in WW2?
What if Italy joined the allies in WW2
It was a very good possibility with Mussolini being very stigent on guaranteeing Austrian independence, but the British and French were passed because Italy took Ethiopia as a colony. Which the reason as to why they got passed off about it removed land passage between their own colonies. Britain was wanting to take Ethiopia through means of papers (there's a long list of colonies at the time that had been set as a precedent for whichever country wants to take them can either do it by warfare or tricking them into signing papers which Italy decided to do the first meanwhile Britain and France were both trying the second).
Eventually when mussolini approached them they said nope, and all he could do was find a way to try and not be invaded at the earliest possibility. So he decided to join the Axis, and was presuming to start the war against the French and British in 1943 via the Pact of Steel. Which originally he only planned on invading Yugoslavia and Greece, with trying to convince the British to give up Malta and Cyprus and the French in giving up Tripoli.

Lore of Hoi4 Alternate History: What if Germany Focused on Africa in WW2? Momentum 100
What if USA joined Germany in WWI
What if francisco franco actually joined the axis instead of japan, spain and italy could potentially clash over africa and maybe cause the axis to break up
I think this timeline would be more realistic if instead of postponing Barbarossa (destroying the bolsheviks was central to natzie ideology), the germans do a much smaller 1942 offensive (fall blau) in order to divert resources to Afrika Korps. You also forgot that the major route of supplies for USSR was through Iran where an anglo-soviet invasion happened in august 1941. In this scenario Turkey doesn't even needs to join on the axis side because the germans can just get to Baku through Iran. The fascist Iraqi government I believe was a good call though.
What if Japan didn't enter the war and focused only on the USSR?
Better yet, What if "Tora tora tora" aka the attack against Pearl harbor did work as they wanted it? (USA losing the majority if not all of its fleet and is forced to withdraw from the Pacific)
He already did a video about Japan favoring the army and the kodoha faction
So in combination with the second suggestion the soviets are supercharged in Asia as Japan weakens both itself in Siberia and the allies in south and East Asia
What if the Soviets invaded the Germans first (Germans don't invade in 1941)
I think it’s a lil illogical that the soviets could stand this good against Germany who have their biggest problem solved (lack of oil) and captured 80% of the Soviet oil fields + extra manpower from turkey and better equipment and development in war weapon technologies. Including the new super modern submarines of the Germans. Yes you could bring up the argument that the US would supplies them with oil and other scarce goods but with the new submarines they could hardly supply the soviets from the Atlantic site and Japan makes it hard for them to supply from pacific. Of course Soviet Union would have had more time for perpetration. Nevertheless, the advantages of the other side greatly outweigh those of the Russians. Just my opinion
Still interesting scenario. Keep up the good content
What if, instead of driving for Moscow, Germany settled for the Caucasus? They would have had much less front to defend, would have had the oil they wanted and could have accomplished that before Russia fully mobilized, and they would have had short supply lines in the South from Turkey.
Honestly Germany would’ve had a chance if they didn’t declare war on the US after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and Germany invaded the Soviet Union right as the winter was receding in early spring 1941.
TBH, given that AT LEAST since Mein Kampf he saw the USSR as the obvious needed expansion place and "judeo/bolshevism" as the end of wester civilization... and that most of those ideas, including the underlying eugenics and that empires crumble when they get too many barbarians, were not even his own, but passed for mainstream science at the time... and not just in Germany; in fact most were imported from the USA... I find this scenario somewhat improbable.
Yeah, sad thing is, it wasn't those ideas that made National Socialism a fringe ideology. It was the other way around. It was actually seeing what the logical conclusion of those ideas is, when someone actually does something about it, instead of just hand wringing and whining about it, that made the world go, "eeeh... maybe that's a bad idea."
Well... sorta... one way that this could have played out this way is if Halder actually told Hitler that, yeah, no, there's no way in hell they can get the strategic objectives in 4 months. Possibly with some help from Keitel and others. Then I suppose that Adolf might have looked for other targets. Or not.
Thinking about interesting scenarios reminded me that during the interwar period Poland and Romania were very close and that resulted in a defensive alliance to deter people (The Soviets/Germany) from attacking. Historically Poland didn't call Romania against the Germans fearing the Soviets may join and sadly that's exactly what happened. But what if they did?
What if Poland called Romania against the Germans?
The Polish were too badly outmatched and the Romanians would likely not have fared much better than them against the Germans. The Hungarians might have gotten involved too making the situation potentially even worse.
@@krisvangucht5884 Yep but just like this episode it'll be interesting to see the narrative Stak will come up with.
Perhaps the war won't be much different but the post war situation will.
Maybe the Soviets won't be able to establish puppets in Eastern/Central Europe since both Poland and Romania would be in the Allies at this point.

What if the London Pact of WW1 with Italy was respected?
What if the Kriegsmarine had gone the cruiser, destroyer doctrine instead of wasting their resources on battleships?
They would have probably been better off focusing on submarines almost exclusively with just enough surface ships to prevent a naval landing on their coast. There was just no way for them to put enough resources into the naval game to beat the Royal Navy in a pitched naval battle, not with their plans (>>Barbarossa) - raiding with subs at least caused a good deal of economic damage to the British Empire while being a cheaper option than those overpriced Battleships. Of course, at that time the idea was to 'make one Huge ship that could defeat a large number of the British ships' Which would have been fine if it actually worked - Unlike us, they didn't have the power of hindsight.

How about this scenario, but Germany does not turn on the Soviet Union. In fact, after getting Turkey in their camp, they actually invite The Soviet Union to join the Axis, but this time seriously, unlike their toying with the idea in our timeline. Such a move, coupled with the lack of a Battle of Britain, leads to the possibility that the U.S. never declares war on Germany (or vice-versa) and there is then zero lend lease to the Soviets. Then, the Germans could focus the majority of their military production towards air power (say ME-262 mass production in 1943) and then turn towards England with everything they had.
Hi Stakuyi! If you think it'd be worth it, I think a playthrough of the Youjo Senki Redux mod would be fun to see. Please? It would really make my day. =^x^=
Think my only issue with the play through would be Hitler expending units to still get the Caucasus, with Iraq in the fold they wouldn’t have needed the oil, so once they took Stalingrad, they’d make a B line to Moscow.
Always love these!
What if the Latin Entente formed in WW2?
It always came back to dealing with Stalin. Adolf understood that and was committed to Barbarosa out of necessity. Time was not on the Germans' side.
I do agree to an extent that the axis could've still lost. However, I can't help but note the lack of securing the Mediterranean more fully. In particular, by including Spain and coaxing them into attacking and securing Gibraltar and perhaps, by pressuring Vichy France, into securing the western coastal region of French West Africa. Who knows, perhaps they could put pressure against Allied possessions in Western africa in the Sahel region and west central Africa. Additionally, the Axis wouldn't have been focused on pressuring Turkey and Iraq. There was a third nation. That being Iran, known as Persia at the time. Iran was a major oil producing nation. In fact it was quite literally the prize in the middle east. Around this time Iran was producing more oil than Saudi Arabia, simply because the oil production in Saudi Arabia didn't grow until the 1950s, also because they had just discovered the tip of the iceberg in Saudi Arabia the rest had yet to be discovered and produced. Finally, by militarily supporting Iran, the Axis could've opened up another avenue of attack against the Soviet Union in central Asia, in particular modern Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Additionally if Germany truly wanted to work with Japan to achieve victory. By using Iran as a staging area, they could've attempted to conduct an Oriental strategy with Japan by coordinating offensives into India and the Indian ocean region. This most definitely would have stretched resources significantly, but, it could've seriously weakened the allies had the offensive succeeded. Who's to say. 🤷

Though this is a fun scenario, the Germans could not have focused on anything other than the East because of a food shortage. Yes many other factors were at play but all of axis controlled Europe would have starved including German by spring of 1942. They needed the 1941 harvest in Ukraine just to feed themselves.
Not sure if you can do this one, but what if Napoleon had won (or at least lasted a few years longer) if nothing else, that would have a pretty big impact on North America, as WHEN the war with Napoleon ended allowed troops to be sent to aid Canada, which was currently involved in a war with the (Still fairly young) USA. Also if Napoleon had won, I could see him sending troops to aid America for potential future profit (and or if America won due to the war taking longer, them sending troops to aid the long time ally of France
