    I noticed most people with very kinky type 4 hair normally have long hair from wearing their hair in stretched styles all the time! I noticed that with you, Naptural, and many other type 4 hair CZcamsrs.

    Yes, indeed... I vowed around 2 years ago to never ever wash my hair freely again!!! I make 8 fat twists, take 1 apart wash that section and retwist. The same steps for conditioning/detangling! It made my life soooooooooo much easier, because I'm no longer overwhelmingly exhausted anymore by "simply" washing my hair!

    Thank you for being so quick. I would've still been listening to the intro of another CZcamsr in the time it took to finish your video. I'll try using oils before washing. My hair doesn't like oils very much but I'll give it a shot because no matter how much they get trimmed, I get a lot of knots in the same week

    • @kimmcfadden7679
      @kimmcfadden7679 Před 2 lety

      In the recent past I have struggled with single knots also because my hair is very coily but I noticed if my hair has is moisturized with water when it feels dry that helps a lot.. I cleanse my hair weekly. Doing that lessens the knots also. If you leave styling products in your hair too long time & you don't wash them out on a regular basis then your hair could be drying out which causes knots. Just remember, oil is not moisture water is moisture.

      +Alta Jacob One product line that has worked wonders in helping me prevent and eliminate the dreaded "ssk" is "Camille Rose. My hair is 4c texture and prior to using this line it would soak up moisture rapidly. I found that with my hair (combo between 3c and 4a) that once my hair got longer the knots were not forming as much as when my hair was shorter (5inches or so). I deranged my hair more often when it was shorter and I attribute my horrible deranging techniques to the problem as well.
    the shorter my hair is, the more likely I am to start at the ends and move up the hair more quickly because it's short.
    the longer it is (12 inches or more) it's easier to keep in loose buns without pulling my hair so tightly and the styles keep longer leading to less manipulation.
    that is my experience with single strand knots.
    I also found that the more I rushed through detanging (hair not as damp as it should be or hair completely dry) that is when I tend to develop knots further up the hair well past the ends.
    The ends is where the knots would appear when it was shorter and if I rushed detanging longer hair they would begin appearing further up the shaft, if that makes sense.
    I like your videos, thanks!

      Girl you have spoken the real truth. I tell people everytime, that the longer the hair, the less manipulation needed and knotting. They don't believe me. My hair is becoming easier to manage and has less knots, the longer it grows and I'm glad it's at that stage. Patience when detangling is key! You cannot rush the process if long hair is a goal. Thank you for such a great comment!

    Girl I wash my hair in twist, condition them in twist, then untwist, de tangle, loc in the moisture and then double strand twist it right back up. My hair stays in these twist (that are moisturized daily) under a wig for two weeks and the process is repeated. Why I got these knots?? 💁🏾‍♀️

    • @Kindred04
      @Kindred04 Před 5 lety +28

      BeautiFuFu - Honestly, some of us are just going to get single strand knots no matter how well we care for our hair. I know videos like this mean well, but they sometimes give people the impression that they must be doing something wrong if they aren't able to eliminate their single strand knots. I've been natural for over 20 years, and the only time I never had to deal with single strand knots was when I kept my hair cut very short (so the strands were too short to get tangled). Other than that, I've always had them. Keeping the hair well moisturized and stretched certainly does help to minimize the number of single strand knots, but I've yet to find a way to eliminate them completely.

    This is very interesting for as it is such a contrast to what I know. I barely ever straighten, or rather, stretch my hair in any way (blow drying, twists or braids) i swim often and am fond of low maintenance :), so these techniques have always been more headache than lifesaver. I find that the knots/breakage come in when going from stretched to curled up hair on wetting and this is never a problem when I leave my head alone. Its definitely not the first choice for most naturals out there but just wondered if anyone other 'non-stretchers' noticed this?

    I’m so not happy with my natural hair today. Last night I flat iron for the first time in almost a year. My hair was on my waist about an inch from my hips (I have a long torso) anyway; I had to cut my ends of course, but after inspecting them they still had so many knots. It took me so long to search and cut as many as I could. It’s the morning after and I still can feel them, some are up too high on my strands. All because I was wearing wash and goes for a few weeks straight. Can we just enjoy our hair without the annoying single strand knots?! I want to keep it long, but end up having to cut too much every year... I just can.🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

I see so many naturals wetting their loose hair and tucking it into buns - something I could NEVER do. Since I stopped doing that and leaving my hair wet and loose in general, I've noticed a HUGE improvement in their condition. Don't despair, I'm sure your situation will improve. Be sure to only use sharp scissors to cut the knots off - breaking them off causes split ends.

    Great tips, but... I wash my hair in sections but unravel each section when I apply shampoo then I rinse the section loose. No problem so far my hair is stretched by water. But as soon as I apply my deep conditioner my ends shrink like crazy and tone of single strand knots get created. I tried several masks and same result. Same thing when it is time to apply my leave-in so I now skip that step. I am scared to wash my hair now. Anyone having this issue? Any tips? Thanks!

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  Před 8 lety

      +HereDianna I get that a bit, but with shampoo! This is why I'm looking to change to clay. This is my current full wash day routine: czcams.com/video/PYVqWJDJWzw/video.html&lc=z13ljbqbtk3hj5sqv04cjx1rtniyuf4qjqs0k
      Maybe something here might help! I think loosening the sections while shampooing could be the major source of your knots. Check it out!

    I think I'm just going to relax my hair....
    Every solution tells me I need to "stretch" my hair. Stretching my hair is just temporarily straightening it without heat and requires a lot more time and effort. So why not just relax it?

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  Před 4 lety +2

      Terena Rosa do what you think is best. There are lots of relaxed youtubers with healthy hair. There are two main things to consider: 1) do you prefer the look of straight hair? If so, this is an easy decision. 2) Are you willing to put in extra work to ensure your hair thrives despite the damaging effects of relaxer?
      There are all kinds of things you can do with relaxed hair and in many ways, it is more manageable. It all boils down to your own preference. Good luck, no matter what you do!

    In addition, I comb my hair once a month on wash day. I tried finger detangling, but unfortunately my fine 4c strands don't stand up against knots. So I've given up and decided to go back to combing with medium comb on wash day before twisting. I noticed it keeps 95% of those lovely knots away. Notice I use a medium comb; small comb makes my hair more fragile and large comb does nothing. I think if I keep my hair twisted or braided (as oppsed to twist outs or braid outs) I may be able to switch to large tooth comb. We'll see what happens on this journey :-)

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  Před 8 lety

      That's really good to hear! Do you get any breakage from the comb? If not, you may not have to get a wider tooth one.

    • @a.j.3088
      @a.j.3088 Před 8 lety

      +Naturally High I'm not sure whether they're shed hair or breakage, that's why I want to eventually switch to a larger comb.

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  Před 8 lety

      +Alta Jacob an easy way to check is for a white bulb on the end of the hairs. If it's present, they're shed; if not, they're broken.

    • @a.j.3088
      @a.j.3088 Před 8 lety

      +Naturally High extremely Sad to say it's breakage. I just realize I'm experiencing protein overload due to over usage of my homemade henna infused coconut oil :-(

    I have type 3a/b hair, I get single strand knots a lot on the bits of my hair that are at my temples, these two locks of hair seem too be 3b moving on too 3c and always feel much drier than the rest of my hair, and always have single strand knots, but I can't do a braid out just at my temples and my hair is too short too do a full head braid out as the back is only a couple inches long, I have a bob

      +Nelly B. Glad you found it interesting. Thanks for your feedback! When I realised that moisturising my strands was the culprit, I was very surprised! I actually stopped moisturising for a while. Back then a lot of the CZcamsrs I followed would wet their ends and tuck them straight into a bun! That's a practice that always leads to knots for me. But luckily, there's no reason to sacrifice moisturising! :D

    Do you think frequently wearing your hair in a high puff can contribute to single strand knots? I've been wondering and thinking this for a while.

    Plaits or braids won't stay in my hair once it's wet so I use some acrylic yarn to bind my hair in two strand twists (kinda like threading) before the wash and leave it on until my hair is 70% dry then I take it out and finger detangle. I avoid so much breakage this way.

    • @NaturallyHigh
      @NaturallyHigh  Před 8 lety

      What's your hair texture? That sounds like a good alternative. Doesn't the yarn dry out your hair though?

    • @devibaebie8860
      @devibaebie8860 Před 8 lety

      I'm kind of a mix of 4a-c. Yes, it can dry out your hair, so that's why I only use this to keep things neat while washing my hair. After I do a bit of a turban with a cotton tee, I just hang out with cotton soaking up the extra water. By the time I add product to style my hair is just wet enough to keep it's moisture once sealed. Hope that helps!

      +Sugarkikkis Okay see this is why the hair-typing system is so limited. I don't believe that kinky hair that won't hold a plait fits in any of those categories. We must invent our own system to include the nuances within kinky hair types.
