Excellent tutorial, Pam! Thank you very much. I am delighted with my coffee cup holder 😊
That’s awesome!!
❤
Thanks for the info
You are so welcome! Glad you found the tutorial!!
If your cup is disposable paper or plastic, I would think it much easier to cut the actual cup, adjust it to the height you want the wrap to be, then use it as your pattern to cut out the fabric. Add seam allowances to the ends when you cut.
That’s a good idea and certainly an alternative. Thanks for sharing!
Just from personal experience, not necessarily. I’ve been trying to for months on various restaurants cups and have not been successful for some reason.
Thank you for sharing!!!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching my video!
How do you get the taper of the cup? When I hold the top together, the bottom ha a large gap due to the taper of the cup. When I try to make the bottom fit the cup, the top angles up and no longer comes together straight. Thanks for any advice…
Hi, Rachel. I find it helpful to actually roll the cup on its side across the paper and trace as I roll.
I'm having that same issue. Looks like a step was missed and the wrapping of the cup is done off screen. :-(
@@ashleyheuberger2861 If you go to about the 1:00 minute mark, you’ll see that I tape two pieces of 8-1/2”z11” paper together (short ends). I then trim off the excess paper so that it’s about 8-1/2” x 16”. Then I wrap the paper around the cup with the top long edge lined up with the top of the cup. The paper will overlap. Hold the two short ends together, while keeping the top long edge even. Watch the video and you’ll see that I fold the paper where the two short ends meet to create a fold and a seam line. Cut the paper on each end along the folds, plus 3/8” for the seam allowance. Then lay the paper down on your work surface and roll the cup along the paper. While rolling, trace along the bottom edge of the cup, while keeping the top edge even with the cup. Add 3/8” to this mark for your seam allowance and cut. I do believe you’ll see all these steps in the video. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
You wrote down the measurements for later use, but you don’t show using them.
This was really excellent, and thank you for sharing! It's easy to follow, and exactly what I was trying to figure out so I could make myself a new cup sleeve.
Thanks, Deborah! Glad this video helped you!
Thank you so much for that. Simple easy to follow tutorial 💐
Hi, Sue. Glad the tutorial was helpful to you!
Neat!
Thanks for watching!
@@TheBirchCottage Very helpful!
I’d like to see you make the pattern as well. Thank you!
Hi, Connie! I have a video coming (hopefully this week) showing how to actually sew the sleeve. Thank you!
Thank you SO much!
You're welcome!
No allowances were made for the top and bottom so they will be shorter. Shouldn't you make allowances for top and bottom, too?
Rosie, the idea is to use your cup to make a custom coffee cup sleeve. When you are making your pattern, you have to take into consideration the size of your cup. You also have to take into consideration how tall you want your sleeve to be. Hope this helps!
How did you get the top curved? That part is missing.
I’m not sure what you mean by “top curved”.
Yup! Looks like she skips a step in between cutting the rectangle and then wrapping the paper around the cup. It looks very much like she has it curved at the top, just like if you took apart one of the paper sleeves. When I try to wrap the paper at the top like she says, there is a huge gap at the bottom and no way to trace the bottom like she is doing.
I about had a divorce trying to follow this tutorial 😅 this part is missing and it’s very frustrating
Not coming out right.
I'm really sorry this isn't working for you. Can you be a little more specific about what isn't working so I can try to help? Thanks!!
@@TheBirchCottage I had to just make one on my own, thanks for your help
Fair warning - this does not work unless your pattern is curved at top and bottom. You will make yourself crazy trying to make this fit as demonstrated in the video. Your finished template has to look like a bit of an arch.
Hi! You are correct in that the pattern has to have a curve in order to fit the cup properly. That is exactly what I demonstrate in the video. Since I can’t account for every cup size, I’m trying to show people how to create their own pattern. If you have questions, please let me know!!
The curve was created when she folded the pattern piece back and forth at the seams. If you watch how the seams were cut after adding the seam allowance, you can see the curve in the pattern piece.
@@bombcherryjuice2000 Thank you for clarifying that!!
No the top was arched before it was wrapped around. How odd - why not show that step to create the arch on top?😢
Go watch the Tera cotta pot fabric cover video which shows how to get an arch on top and bottom. 🤷
