To apply tip #3, I like to study a variety of courses rather than trying to master one textbook. I study one course as quickly as I can comfortably, then move on to the next one. I memorize as little as possible. Since beginner textbooks and audio courses teach a lot of the same vocabulary and grammar, I get the repetition and review I need without doing them consciously. Basically, after 35 years of studying a variety of languages, I'm tired of memorizing and putting a lot of effort into studying, but I still want results. So this is my workaround. It's really easy in languages with a lot of materials available (such as German), but requires more creativity, research, and even sacrifice (studying courses I don't like much) in languages with few materials (such as Swahili). Sometimes, I just read and listen to all of the dialogs and reading passages in as many textbooks as I can and ignore most of the rest of what's in the book. I'm doing this now for Korean because I love the language but I don't like any of the courses I've found.

Learning vocabulary in context is SUPER important. I still like Anki, but I used my vocabulary flash cards OUT of context.

"Most" is the word in Russian for "Bridge" as it is in Czech, Slovak, Slovene, Belarussian, Serbo-Croation-Bosnian and Polish. Only Ukrainian has a different word "Mist"

Dear Jan, thank most Dutch people whom I have met your command of English is strong and appears very natural. Can you do a video where you explain how English is taught in the public schools in the Netherlands.

Great video! On an unrelated note: do you mind sharing where you got your sunglasses in this clip? They look awesome. And the girl sitting on the left across from you at the restaurant looks like Lydia Machova?

Good tips but the camera frame rate or something made it a bit jerky and my brain dizzy plus the sound was ramped up so was easily distorted on a regular tv.

I'm studying Russian and Arabic at the time. I also know basic Mandarin and would like to improve my skills to memorize and pronounciate the tones.
Do you have a special tip to improve it or it's just a matter of time and routine?
    Greetings from Brazil ;)

Hey, someone can help me, please? I want to learn russian, but i don't know where to start. Maybe you could recommend me some app or site that teachs russian from the very very basic, and without using a lot of grammar? Or maybe give me some tips on this language learning? I only know the russian alphabet, and how to say "Thank you" and "Goodbye"... .___.
Hey, alguém poderia me ajudar, por favor? Eu quero aprender russo, mas eu não sei por onde começar. Alguém aí poderia me recomendar algum app ou site que ensine russo do básico do básico, e sem usar muita, ou usando pouquíssima gramática? Eu só sei o alfabeto russo, como dizer "Obrigado" e "Adeus"... ._. (Obrigado por lerem!)
