Nice rig. I want to get a 17 MKE. Wife not quite convinced yet. I love how much room you get. I want to outfit one wiith Solar and batteries to be able to stay off-grid or national forest for a couple of days.
Update: this trailer is a nice trailer, on the same par as Winnebago and a few others (except Lance, which costs a lot more). However, I just cannot get over the low axle clearance with old, very old-school leaf springs with 14" wheels and spare tire mounted underside. Those two axles are dangerously low to the ground. They are only a few inches above ground. Very scary. If Grand Design changes it to 15'" to 16" wheels with 2.5" lift, uses torsion axles vice leaf springs. This rig would be awesome. Nice. I was looking at this particular model because of its short length, 23' or less that I want. I do like the steps. There are a few items I don't like vs. Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108DS, 22.5' length. The XLS 17MKE still uses the old leaf spring and 14" wheels - too low to the ground, spare tire underside makes it even less ground clearance, a big no, no. The Winnebago uses torsion axles (no leaf spring), 15" wheels and off-road tires plus a 2" lift for extra clearance. It has slam-shut storage doors and wind-resistance door hinge, all-weather package (like the XLS), plus, wireless phone charger, and of course, pre-wired for camera, solar, WiFi. If the XLS has the lift and 15" wheels, and torsion axles, I would definitely get it.

Great video tour, nice trailer. I agree, all trailers should have the T.V. across from the seating area. Does the t.v. swing out so you can watch it in bed? I do not like the spare tire under the trailer though. Enjoy!
Yes the tv swings out so it can be viewed from the bed. I think the tire is underneath on this unit because all the vents are at the back where the spare would normally be on the bumper.
Hey - nice post so thx for the info... I was looking at the Imagine 2600RB but I'm leaning towards the 2021 like yours w Murphy Bed and diff decor... Seems like Grand Design is too smart to have missed that.???!!! // I've seen several videos and no mention... In fact YOU are the first to mention the AC Unit is 15k BTU's so thx for that as well... Happy Trails & Holidays to all !!! Carl
There are many outlets all along the counter. They are actually in the bottom of the cabinets rather than in the wall, maybe 3 sets not sure. There is also a outlet down by the main switch for the lights by the door. I set my coffee pot up in the corner by the fridge. You may be able to see it set up in another one of my videos. I bring many things that need to be plugged in, cameras laptop and things and never had a issue being able to plug stuff in. In regards to the AC I think its 13 000 BTU which is more then enough for that small of a trailer.
There are a few windows for sure, covered with the blinds. The window below the tv you can see directly out of if you're sitting in the chairs, its quite nice as you can see into your campsite.
I wish Grand Design would move it’s tank valves to under/inside the enclosed tank areas. If you are like me, you’ve known the driving to a dump site in cold weather to find the valve section frozen with an ice plug. Not fun!
@@duceswild2066 - Please understand, the handles aren’t the issue. Our trailer, a 23’ Airstream FB had the VALVES underneath exposed, the tanks didn’t freeze, just the water in the foot or two of exposed pipe before the valve froze. Sounds like a non-issue I know, we would stay off grid for a week or so, then come in to a town to get gas, water, groceries and dump, often staying a night or two in a town at an RV park. It took several days for that block of ice under there to melt, LOL! We ended up driving south in hopes of warmer weather and the cold front followed us, Murphy’s law 🤣
Thanks for the tour. While the mattress is a residential queen (60x80) I've been told it folds and so you can't just buy any queen mattress. Where did you get your replacement mattress and which one did you get?
I plug my coffee pot in the far corner by the fridge. There are many outlets in the kitchen. Some are on the bottom of the cabinets rather then in the wall. 1 by light switch, behind TV, in the middle and that far corner. Ive never had a issue plugging stuff in. There are also some on each side of the couch close to the floor. More then enough.
I love this xls 17 mke. I love you colors. I don't like the new interior colors at all, and the newer models have the Murphy bed that is ugly and and annoyance. Why would 2 people need 2 couches! I would buy one in a second if they looked like yours.
Hi, quick question: what happend with the front driver side stabilizer? I like this configuration better because you can use the bed even with the slide in, unlike the new one with the murphy bed! I have to wait until spring to see some camping trips, i guess? :)
I still have videos I haven't published so you will see some new videos before spring. The little nuts on the stabilizer backed off and the rod fell down loose. Just tied it up out of the way till I could re do it. Not a big deal. Other 3 are perfectly fine still after 2 years.
Love everything about it. It will be just husband and myself traveling, but we do have a college kid joining us from time to time during breaks. Can the twin chairs turn into a bed???? Thanks 😊
I assume this is not a 4 seasons trailer? I don't care for modern dark wood decor, but I do like everything else about this unit. How much $? approximately, of course.
I love this model over the 21 ,I hate the Murphy bed on the new model, being I'm living in 1 , not vacationing in 1 .I'd take your model anyday. Having to adjust to single living on a budget.. I'll definitely look at your model, the new one's with the Murphy bed . NOPE
With the 2020/21 model you can't grab a nap on the Murphy bed without extending the slide. Can you please confirm that you can get in and access the bed with the slide all the way in. (Bathroom too?) Many thanks for your response.
@@duceswild2066 That's awesome, thank you very much! After much research, it looks like I have to try and find a 2019 model like yours! I also need to hope that it can deal with day after day of full pull towing. Thanks again for your quick response! Take care and be well. Cheers!
Yes there are many. 1 by the light switch, 1 behind the TV and one in the far corner. I've never had a issue being able to plug something in. There might even be one in the middle of all them. Hard to remember.
Hi, really good video. I hope you show a lot more of you camping. Where are you located, east or west. I’m getting ready to purchase a smaller camper to tow with my F150 and it’s a toss up between a micro mini and the grand design. I’m 6’4” , will I fit in the shower of the grand design?
I'm 6'1 and i fit fine. There is a skylight above the shower that creates a little more head room if need be. I plan on making many videos! No worries there. I'm in central Canada.
Thanks for the comment. Mine is a 2019 and one thing I love about it is the dark interior. New ones are nice too but I'm not a fan of the light color interior.
There are lots of outlets. I put my coffee pot and toaster in the far corner next to the fridge. Outlets are in the bottom of the cabinets. There is also one in the middle and one down on the side by the light switch. Never had a problem plugging stuff in, and I take extra things like cameras and laptops to charge.
It does well, the trailer is light enough. I do use a weight distribution hitch which I think is essential. Towing in strong winds you can watch the gas gague go down though lol. Many trucks have different gearing which would greatly affect how it tows.
@@duceswild2066 closets closets I love closets. My perfect r.v. would be, did I mention closets, no stove, no dinette, one twin bed, (no guests) no slide, ( adds too much weight) just counter space for a Foreman grill, and a toaster oven. Extra outlets. Instead of the dinette, a small washer could fit, more wardrobes. No mini blinds. No exterior accessories. One comfortable non leatherette, non staining fabric chair. Collapsible small coffee table. Would be easy fit for a 23'.
You shouldn't need a special lisance pull a camper if its under a certain weight. Big heavy campers you probley do. The rules are different for every country, province or state though. Id suggest contacting someone local to you to be sure.
Just to clarify you tow a travel trailer with a vehicle, you don't drive the trailer. That's why I don't like calling travel trailers "RVs" because a trailer is not technically a vehicle, you need a vehicle to move it. Anyway, in the US you don't need a special license to tow any private trailer, whatever the size. You don't even need a special license to drive a 50+ ft long diesel pusher with dual drive axles and air brakes! It's a "private coach" so no special license.
Nice but I always wonder why trailer makers never seem to put electrical outlets on the wall in the kitchen. Man I gotta have my Mr. Coffee. I mean they put an outlet in the pass through storage outside but none in the kitchen? What's up with that?
There are lots of outlets along the counter in the kitchem. Some are on the bottom of the cabinets instead of in the wall. 1 by light switch, 1 behind the tv, 1 in the far corner and they're might even be one in the middle I'm not sure. I love my coffee too and the far corner is where I put my coffee pot. I've never had a issue being able to plug something in.
Theres alot along the counter yes. They're kinda built into the bottom of the cabinets so hard so see in the video. Also another down by the main light's switch. I put my coffee pot in the far corner by the fridge. It should be set up in another one of my videos.
@@travisstanley6093 The 2020 is a Murphy Bed. I'm sorry I don't know the exact size of it but if I had to guess a residential mattress wouldn't fit cause of the way it bends and locks shut, even if it is 60x80. When it comes to your truck I suggest looking up your vin on the Toyota website or at a dealer to check your tow ratings.
Travis Stanley. Hi Travis, I had 2 Taco 4x4 TRD 4dr Sports (2010 and 2019) so I think I can help you. First though it depends on the specs of your own truck so research that first. We started with a small tent trailer and the 2010 pulled it like a breeze. Wife wanted a fancier trailer so we got a Palomino Gazelle which had a dry weight of 3300 lbs...Taco handled it easily too, EXCEPT for the frequent fuel stops! Fuel economy was not great, especially in the mountains and windstorms but the engine itself never really went above 3500rpm...cruising at 100 kph (60 mph) on the flats without a wind, it would cruise along at about 2300 rpm...quite comfortable, We then went to a 2019 Taco and the 17 mke trailer (4900 lb dry). Yes the new Taco pulled it fine but the same limitations due to fuel tank capacity. While the truck had a pull rating of 6400 lbs and the new trailer was well below that, we were getting close to maxing out the Taco 1000lb payload. With about 500 lbs of tongue weight, 2 adults and a Labrador, we were didn’t have much extra payload capacity. In the end we also went to a new f150 with payload and towing packages. Among the goodies in the f150 is a 36 gallon fuel tank and frankly the fuel consumption isn’t hugely different from the Taco. So as a long time Toyota fan (going back to my then new 1981 Landcruiser diesel), the Taco is a great truck but I wouldn’t recommend it for pulling a heavier trailer over a long distance. We are retiring this spring and plan on some longer excursions so the full size truck fits for us now. That said, I think the Tacos I had would not be stressed mechanically...just lots of pit stops. Hope this helps.

I love this model over the 21 ,I hate the Murphy bed on the new model, being I'm living in 1 , not vacationing in 1 .I'd take your model anyday. Having to adjust to single living on a budget.. I'll definitely look at your model, the new one's with the Murphy bed . NOPE
You could probley find a good deal on a used 2019. I love this model. Even though its shorter then some others, it feels more spacious.
These are nice little trailers.
They are yup. They're is a bunch of different models.
I'd probably put a nice shower curtain across the bed area to block off the bed.
I'v been looking at different options for that. I think a different XLS model has a nice curtin I could possibly use.
You can have a Murphy bed there instead.
Very nice!!!!!
Thanks. New video tomorrow :)
With the 2020/21 model you can't grab a nap on the Murphy bed without extending the slide. Can you please confirm that you can get in and access the bed with the slide all the way in. (Bathroom too?) Many thanks for your response.
Eveything in the 2019 like mine is accessible with the slide in except 1 drawer under the bed.
@@duceswild2066
That's awesome, thank you very much! After much research, it looks like I have to try and find a 2019 model like yours! I also need to hope that it can deal with day after day of full pull towing. Thanks again for your quick response! Take care and be well. Cheers!
@@SubToTripleThreatRC You're welcome.
Very nice unit for two people or maybe for 4 and easy to tell round
I'm happy with it.
Did you upgrade from a murphy bed? I thought the 17MKE brought them.
Mine is a 2019 model without the murphy bed.
i could share this with my wife and dogs
Mine is a 2019 model. Newer ones have a light color interior and a Murphy Bed which is very popular.
Did you add solar? Are you planning on adding Solar? What type vehicle are you pulling your 17mke?
Not planning to add solar. I just use a generator if I'm off the grid. I pull it with a 2013 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi
Great video. Are there any outlets anywhere along the long kitchen counter? Where van u plug in a coffee maker/toaster?
Thanks Again!
Yes there are many. 1 by the light switch, 1 behind the TV and one in the far corner. I've never had a issue being able to plug something in. There might even be one in the middle of all them. Hard to remember.
great thank you. . . you have a nice rig!
Nice rig I like.
Thanks!
Hi, really good video. I hope you show a lot more of you camping. Where are you located, east or west. I’m getting ready to purchase a smaller camper to tow with my F150 and it’s a toss up between a micro mini and
the grand design. I’m 6’4” , will I fit in the shower of the grand design?
I'm 6'1 and i fit fine. There is a skylight above the shower that creates a little more head room if need be. I plan on making many videos! No worries there. I'm in central Canada.
I am 6”2 and I fit in the shower
Nice.
Thanks.
I forgot to ask, with the slide in, can you still use the bed and have access to the bathroom?
Eveything is accessible with the slide in except 1 drawer under the bed. Mine is a 2019 model
A perfect retirement trailer except I could never live with the horrible depressing color scheme they've gone to. Time to give options GD!
Thanks for the comment. Mine is a 2019 and one thing I love about it is the dark interior. New ones are nice too but I'm not a fan of the light color interior.
Duces Wild yeah, not just light but it's a harsh "cold" light. Very institutional. And all those blue LEDs! I want an RV not a nightclub.
Nice job!
How does she tow?
Tows great.
Love it
Thanks. Me to.
I dont see a plug outlet around the countertop for a coffee pot or a toaster
Nice trailer
There are lots of outlets. I put my coffee pot and toaster in the far corner next to the fridge. Outlets are in the bottom of the cabinets. There is also one in the middle and one down on the side by the light switch. Never had a problem plugging stuff in, and I take extra things like cameras and laptops to charge.
Thanks. I get that question a lot. I should do a separate video on how I have it all set up. Lol
Can you get to the bathroom with the slide in?
Yes you can. Everything is accessible with the slide in except 1 drawer under the bed.
May I ask what you pull it with?
2013 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi 3:55 rear end
Hey nice video! I'm buying the same model and I was wondering how that Ram truck does towing it? Is it a 1500 with 5.7 motor?
It does well, the trailer is light enough. I do use a weight distribution hitch which I think is essential. Towing in strong winds you can watch the gas gague go down though lol. Many trucks have different gearing which would greatly affect how it tows.
Best takeaway fromt he video is the properly place Tim Hortons coffee cup.
I worked hard to line that shot up. Lol
Bravo! No dinette. I would prefer a full bed with small cabinets on one or both sides. I hope the blue lights are optional.
You can shut the blue lights off.
@@duceswild2066 way to go. For some ( stupid) reason they bother my eyes.
@@biff5856 Many people don't like them, I personally love them.
@@biff5856 Sounds like a lovely trailer
Which type of license is required to drive a Travel Trailer?
Nice
Thanks
Great video thanks! What is Gross weight and tongue weight?
Dry is 5000lbs and max is 6500lbs?? I think. Tongue is around 500lbs. Current specs should be on their website.
Not bad!
What flooring is that?
Do your feet hit bottom of table ?
I've never had a problem hitting the table.
Didn't go through the ac unit , I guess you're in a cold environment
I only use the AC a few times a year on those really hot days. +35°C. It works really well, 13 000 btu. Noisy but thats expected.
I'm looking for a divorce single guy trailer with comfort, she's getting all the rest. Help me🙏
@@duceswild2066 curtisfogleman@gmail.com
Will do.
Are there any outlets for things like a coffeemaker?
Theres alot along the counter yes. They're kinda built into the bottom of the cabinets so hard so see in the video. Also another down by the main light's switch. I put my coffee pot in the far corner by the fridge. It should be set up in another one of my videos.

Looking for rv travel trailer I think i found it thanks good luck
Can i ask what it costs?
Sorry prices vary so much from year to year and by location so it wouldn't be accurate. Check your local listings or dealer.
nice
Canada eh?

Rav 4 tow this trailer ???
No I don't think so.
I'm ready to buy a travel trailer like this the same day I find one at a reasonable price.
I think demand for rv's in general has been going up for a while now.
@@duceswild2066 I hope I find one. I just paid off my truck. Now I need a camper for it.
Nice!
Thanks
We have the same trailer with the Murphy bed. Nice little trailer but I am obviously biased.
I love mine! It's a 2019 model.
Does the 2020 come with a regular queen? Also wonder if my 2019 Toyota Tacoma would pull it well. I see you have a full size pickup?
@@Rick-tt6yq Thanks Rick, were trying to decide which camper to purchase . Most dealers just want to make a sale. It's always good to get an honest answer from someone who knows.
What’s the price I like it
Sorry prices vary so much from year to year and by location so it wouldn't be accurate.
why would you have the stove vent in the back of the trailer while the stove is in the front. makes no sense smelly rv when cooking.
Stove vent is in the side right above the stove. It has a fan and works very well. Fridge, water heater and furnace vents are at the back.
Where are the closets for handing clothes and jackets?
Storage above and below the bed. There is a rod to hang stuff on at the foot of the bed. I hang larger items there like coats and sweaters.
