I made this DIY Nightstand with a hidden drawer to try my hand at a real secret compartment in furniture. This could be a cool concealment drawer and it’s hidden behind an epoxy inlay on the front of the nightstand. Figuring out how to make the secret lock was the hardest part, but it worked out and the spring loaded secret drawer is amazing!

To be fair if i was breaking into your house i'd be taking the nightstand with me it looks awesome.

Id have to pack all his projects with me before i could leave
Incredible design, finish & function - priceless!
I don't blame you. And it'll make you easier to tackle caring this heavy thing 😜
Everyone is gangsta until the robber is a guy that watches “fix this build that” videos.
Not if that nightstand holds a gun. Robbing is different from burglarizing. Burglarizing is with no one home and no harm, just theft. Robbing is using force or assault to steal.

I learned english its my second language but thanks for teaching me the difference.
if that person is stealing my stuff ain’t nobody gonna stop me from potentially killing them
@@cynthia8036 Just run at them naked whilst screaming, even if they shoot you, it will give them crippling ptsd.
He probably installed a few traps that he didn't publish, like pushing this button now just opens a trapdoor in the floor dropping the burglar into a pit of snakes or opening a door, releasing 8 pissed-off rottweilers
That is probably the coolest woodworking project I’ve seen anywhere. Awesome work.
Very creative and beautiful!

The sheer joy on his face when he realises it works is impossible to fake. Love that - great video!
I have major shop and tool envy 🤩It is very cool to see how you pulled this together. I was definitely about as excited as you were when it was time to show if the hidden drawer worked!
My Grandpa was a carpenter and he would build hidden compartments into his builds. I know of one large L shaped thing that has a fake bottom in one of the drawers and a small triangle detail in the corner of the piece pulls up to reveal a little cubby. My Grandma actually took my Dad around the house to show him all the secret compartments so nothing will accidentally be left when she dies.
YASSSSS! This build absolutely rules my dude! Well done and solid shout out to that handsome devil in there !
hello friend
Great now john is gonna build one with epoxy dovetails and tensegrity. BRAD STOP FEEDING HIM IDEAS
Now John has to build a similar piece with not one....butt Two!....hidden drawers on the upper drawer....with epoxy dovetails
I follow both channels and I think a Brad and John war would be awesome!
I can totally hear John's voice as I read this comment... Why can I totally hear John's voice as I read this comment?!?
The problem is that the nightstand looks so cool the whole thing will probably get stolen

Rewatching this video and the valet tray one as I prepare to build my 12 yo nephew a valet tray. Thank you so much for the ideas and potential pitfalls! Be well, and may you and yours have a wonderful New Year!
I love the way you are showing us the "Warts and All" ... Little mistakes and such as you figure things out... Really helpful to point out possible pitfalls one might encounter during construction🤔

Really appreciate the reality of a "meltdown" on camera. Glad to see I'm not the only one makes me believe I'm not a failure at woodworking! Cheers!
I agree. I subscribed as soon as I saw that.
Absolute perfection. Amazing Craftsmanship. Great job!!!!
This was an amazing video. The night stand looks great and you did a great job with the color contrasting. I've seen hide away drawers and picture frames but I think you should really go 'out of the box' with a hide away cutting board and a spot for a knife. Like a knife block and cutting board all in one. You could even go all out and install a UV light for sanitizing them.
This is an awesome project! I literally made the same "WOW" face at the push of the button. I really want to integrate something like that in my next build! Thanks for sharing.
The precision involved in this project is admirable! I love the hidden drawer :D
Superb craftmanship! .. excellent
Thanks for leaving the mistake in. It’s refreshing and reminds you that even the pros have things go a miss.
Fantastic job!! Love your genuine joy when it all came together. I totally feel ya.
I love you, you put diy and Chris ramsay together, you Are actually one of My favorite people rn (you Are perfection if you also like panic at the disco)

Ok, I was getting a little aggravated with you...seriously, what a tease...but, this totally lived up to the hype! Bravo.

When you said you were gonna keep your most prized possessions in there, I was fully expecting to see a signed picture of John Malecki in there. Great build.
Your channel is amazing! Thank you!
"And one did not budge at all..."
"Wow that is not budging.. at all..."
I love the fact that you add the people you reference in the video in the description.
Amazing build!! One thing I noticed... when attaching the rails to the frame, you're not using the tabs. After install drawers for years, I recently saw someone's YT video about why the tabs are there. You bend them out slightly, then use the screw holes on the end of the tabs only. It gives the rail the ability to handle up to 1/16" extra gap so you get a perfectly smooth sliding drawer. It blew my mind. There was an immediate 1000% improvement in drawer slide installations.
I think I understand what you're saying, but can you provide the link? I'm a more visual learner.
Christopher M, can u remember the name of the video showing the drawer slides ?
Whoa
That's awesome, just now stumbling upon your video and work. Excellent and beautiful work.
Great job. I really like the walnut look and the precision of your work.
Incrível! Parabéns pela criatividade!
it’s amazing how this high tech gear can achieve the precision you need and still be such a creative project, i think black resin would have looked more classy. i gotta say though, kudos to the japanese craftsmen who made the original puzzle boxes entirely by hand. WITH yosegi!
Awesome video. I too love hidden compartments
The best videos that I already seen about wood.... Thank you
Love it man
thanks!
I'm impressed that you are also welding in this project. I love woodworking and I really love welding. I hate when I see a woodworker forcing wood into a project where there should really be some metal just because they don't know how to weld. Thanks for the cool project!
This is awesome. Beautiful and it rocks.
This thing is art. Amazing job.

"Perfect spot to hide your most prized possessions"
thieves on youtube: interesting...
I did a night stand for my GCSE tech project and it had a draw that pulled down from the base of it that was on drawer runners and locked it was pretty cool, maybe you could make an improved version from some pictures
I'm sold even without the secret hidden drawer.. 19:21.. looks so clean and sleek!! Awesome!
I love this. Looks great!
Engineering 101, the simple option is often the best!
I'm not an engineer, I don't know if that's in the 101 course
That would probably some level 1000 course. Most engineers equate complexity with sophistication. Usually an engineer who uses the simplest and most efficient solutions is called a craftsman.
Looks great, with the false face you can't tell it's there (apart from the thousands of people that will see this 😉)
Let's hope none of them tell anyone :)
@@Fixthisbuildthat I won't tell. Promise 🤐
It's a decoy.
Fix This Build That I’m telling everyone
Crazy awesome build. Love it, love the shop, love the vid!
Absolutely brilliant.
I felt like you were playing “don’t break the ice” game! It always gave me a little anxiety!
To be fair if i was breaking into your house i'd be taking the nightstand with me it looks awesome.
Pro tip for better releasing and pressing down the wooden button. Instead of making it 90 degree squared to the place where it contact the resin, add an slight angle to it. Like 1 degree extra would probably do it. So instead of 90°, it would be 91°. This way it would release right away from the resin as the contact surface area will just disappear. And also will push smoothly. Check some injection mould design, and you will see better what I mean.
Just want to say you’re the man. Love your work. Keep on.
Unbelievably very nice I appreciate your work
If Light Yagami had woodworking skills. Perfect to hide a death note.
still his secret drawer is on another level
Things may have gone a lot better for him.
Yes
Anime Geeks If his room was thoroughly searched, the searcher would probably look under things such as drawers, and therefore would see the hole in the bottom. He could then stick something the size of the ink part of a pen in and find the note. I just thought of that watching this video, don’t know why it didn’t occur to me sooner.
Light had to work hard to build his mechanism tho. I think I might make it. Minus the fire stuff
You did better than me with the mistake. I'm likely to not look at the project again for a month lol.
Really cool design, admire the perseverance!
Wow, that was definitely worth a subscription!
Since the epoxy is kinda "deeper" around the secret Button its actually a lot darker and the secret Button becomes a lot less secret :D
Using a darker shade, maybe black may compensate for this
Could try adding more/larger/shallower wooden spacers in the gaps to help compensate for the change in color.
Less clear epoxy would help too
should have had the cnc go deeper in general, not like it would be any weaker once the epoxy was in
If I hadn't seen this I doubt I'd assume that was a secret compartment trigger button ;)
you ever notice how smooth the sticky notes are? like they always curve when I take them off the pad and his are just like ______________
When you take em out, dont go bottom to top. Grab a bottom corner and peel of the glue from side to side, that should keep them sticky notes flat
Your excitement is fun to watch
Absolutely awesome!
When he press the button and something came out and got censored, had me laughing
I was really expecting for you to have a picture of John in the hidden drawer as one of your "most prized posessions".
This is brilliant!
